I Fell In Love with a Movie Star in my Dream
Have you ever had a dream that made you happy until you had to wake up. Last night I had one of the best dreams of my life. I strolled into the kitchen, all smiles, and the family knew there was something up. I finally admitted that my happiness wasn't just a good night's sleep but their 'aunt Linda' was in love.
In our house, we love to talk about our dreams. I admitted that I was feeling sad because the man I loved was just a figment of my dream imagination. Living with teens, they had no problem reminding me, "it was just a dream auntie."
Have you ever had the type of dream that affects your day. I actually felt I was going through a grieving process once I figured out my lover wasn't real. I was grieving the fact that the man I loved and was going to marry, was just a dream. Not even the best therapist in the world could help me work through this sudden end of a relationship. How dare my subconscious do this to me. How can I work through this?
Robert Downey Jr.
According to Wikipedia: Robert John Downey Jr. is an American actor. His career has included critical and popular success in his youth, followed by a period of substance abuse and legal troubles, and a resurgence of commercial success in middle age
The Mystery Man who Starred in my Dream
Guess who the mystery man in my dream was? At first, I just remember him being a good lookin guy I didn't know. As the dream continued, I realized the man I loved, was none other than, "Robert Downey Jr." Not only was it one of my favorite actors I've followed throughout my life, it gets better. I found out in the middle of the dream that my boyfriend was "Iron Man." Pretty cheesy huh? I don't control my dreams-so no judgement please.
Throughout the day, I eventually worked through the sadness that Robert Downey Jr. was not my boyfriend-it was just a dream.

AWESOME PWalker that I could inspire you with my dream. I love writing about my dreams because I find them funny and interesting. I loved hearing you had a similar dream. It's depressing when you wake up and the love of your life is fiction. LOL
PWalker281 on April 23, 2012:
Oh my goodness! I had a dream just like that early this morning. I dreamed I had this wonderful boyfriend who made me feel so good! It was a joy to be with him! In the dream, he was so familiar that when I woke up, I tried and tried to figure out if he was someone I actually knew. The closest I could come to was an actor I really like.
My understanding is that the people, objects, animals, settings, etc. that make up a dream are metaphors that relate to something happening in waking life, so I knew this "boyfriend" wasn't real (for one thing, he was way too young for me!). What I think he represents is a "positive, joyful state of mind" that I need to adopt more in my life (other aspects of the dream lead me to this conclusion).
I've never thought about writing hubs about the dreams I have, but I just might start doing that. Thanks for the inspiration, Minnetonka Twin! Great hub! Voted up and (very) interesting!

Ben is a cutie pie and how lucky you are to have a dad that resembles him. Can't picture Daniel Day-Lewis right now, so I'm off to google it. Oh, I forgot to say that I havn't seen the Chaplin movie yet but I've heard good things. Must put this on my to do list.
stessily on January 30, 2012:
MT, Yes, Robert Downey Jr is amazing and soooooo handsome. I also like the sound of his voice; he's definitely talented.
One of my favorites as a good-looking actor is Ben Affleck; he kinda reminds me of a photo of my dad, who was tall and very handsome.
As far as an actor appearing in one of my dreams, I wouldn't mind a visit from Daniel Day-Lewis.
Linda Rogers (author) from Minnesota on January 30, 2012:
I'm not sure what he means to me but I've always loved him in the movies. He is so amazing and soo handsome :-)Thanks for coming by my hubs :-)
stessily on January 30, 2012:
MT, Robert Downey Jr is talented; he nailed Charlie Chaplin! It's interesting when famous people appear in dreams. I wonder what he represents for you?
Linda Rogers (author) from Minnesota on April 06, 2011:
Hi theseus, Ya, I would definitely love to be married to Robert. Thanks for reading:)
theseus from philippines on April 05, 2011:
Whatta dream MT. It's just so unfortunate that it had to end. I don't know how true but I read somewhere that dreams are not just fragments of our imagination but are rather the longings of our hearts which come out only in our subconsciousness.
Thank's for sharing. This is a good read. God bless.

Who knows maybe this man in your dreams is already here and you have met. Think about it. I bet you have met and have talked several times...
Linda Rogers (author) from Minnesota on February 24, 2011:
Wow JR-I think it's great that you got to be with your buddy again but I know how hard it must've been when you woke up. Glad you shed those tears that you had cooped up inside of you. Dreams are amazing, especially when their so vivid as yours was. I dream about my dad a lot and often they are dreams where I really feel we are together and it gives me such peace. Thanks for reading my hub JR:)

Years ago I ran into one of my best friends(a brother) in a dream. He had died tragically months before and I was still mourning for him when I had the dream. To this day I can recall vividly the intense emotions I felt as I hugged him, and kissed him and told him I thought he was dead. I also remember the heartbreak after opening my eyes and realizing that it was all a dream and my friend really had passed. I cried all the tears I hadn't cried for him on the day of his funeral and the experience stayed with me for a long time, the memory of it was like the memory of any other waking moment in my life. Dreams are a trip and your story was a beautiful reminder....Many blessings, JR

I agree. Dreams are powerful. Thanks for coming by:)

I am a total believer that dreams can and do affect the world in which we live in. A good dream can make you feel good that next day. Likewise, a bad dream can negatively impact your day as well. And if you have a dream of passion....well..."Diana Lingering" comes to mind ;)
Linda Rogers (author) from Minnesota on January 29, 2011:
You got it Painter-Glad I'm not alone in dreaming of handsome actors.
I had a scary one last night but it's quite like a horror movie and I don't feel like freaking everyone out.

Eeegad! Now I don't feel so bad for dreaming about Keanu Reeves and Jack Nicholson repeatedly! Keep a dream journal and surprise us with more.
Linda Rogers (author) from Minnesota on January 23, 2011:
Hi shynsly-I know, dreams can really effect how you feel. I've had dreams that I'm mad at a family member and I feel mad for the day. This dream was fun but I guess I'll have to love Robert from afar and watch more of his movies. I loved his last Iron Man movie. He is so great in that movie and the first Iron Man too.
shynsly from Sierra Vista, AZ on January 22, 2011:
Funny the effect and power our dreams can have over us, isn't it? I don't dream anywhere near as often as I'd like to, but sometimes, no matter how crappy real life might be going, I will wake up in the best mood because of a completely nonsensicle but happy dream, lol. Sorry to hear your dream guy turned out to be a subconsious creation, but hey... at least it made for a great "hub", right?
Linda Rogers (author) from Minnesota on November 22, 2010:
MFB-I know, waking up and figuring out it was a dream was a really bummer. It was very fun spending some time with Robert. I will NEVER forget the good times. Hee Hee:)

I am sorry that you at long last found your dream man and he was simply that....a dream. But what a night you shared, on a downey pillow and blanket, with Robert jr. himself. I often wish we could custom order dreams, and then simply enjoy every night, alas we get the good with the bad...come mourn.~~~MFB III

I think its great that you had this dream, I also think that powerful dreams like this foretell of future events.
Perhaps your soul mate is ready to come into your life and he looks a lot like Robert Downey Jr!
I loved this hub, and I am hoping you will write about other dreams here on Hubpages!

claudettemoran-That is so wonderful that your grandmother and father came to prepare you for your father's death. I hear so many of these wonderful and hopeful stories. Have you ever thought of hubbing that story. I think dreams and connections with loved ones that have past over are very special for people to read. Thanks so much for visiting my hub. It means a lot to me.

Hi there ahorseback-Thank You so much for visiting me on this hub. I think it is so cool that you can re-visit a dream you like. I have done this as well and I am always so psyched when it works.

Hi Minnetonka Twin, I loved this hub! Once, when I was a teenager, I had a very vivid dream about being at MLK's "I Have A Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial, and having an interview with him!It was really cool! Ironically, I have had telepathic dreams of my best friend and I visiting with each other in the dreams. She is still living though. However, in October, 2007, I did see my dad one last time before he died. I went to sleep, and the last vivid dream that I had was of my paternal grandparents coming to see me, and my grandmother stated, "We are coming to take your dad home." I woke up, the phone rang, and it was my sister who stated that he had passed away. She along with other family members, stayed in his room through the night. Thank you!:)

To see a man in your dream may mean several things. It may denotes a part of yourself as being assertive or competitive. It may also highlight your desire to be in a relationship or seeing an image of your ideal man. Robert Downey, Jr. and Iron Man... Great! I like it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
By the way, I have an article entitled, Dreams: What Does it Possibly Denotes. Just check it out anytime.

pollyannalana-Thanks so much for sharing your story. I totally believe that you and your father were together in the dream. Sounds like he was preparing you for his death. Beautiful story. I bet you feel him around you. Thanks so much for reading my story.
Pollyannalana from US on August 05, 2010:
I am sure the family will be praying for you.Dreams can be really deep at times, I spent Dad's last few hours with him in a dream I feel sure and as I described this to my mother it exactly matched the room, where his bed was and the nurse he had, which I had no way of knowing. He was sort of in a coma but I believe we comforted each other and we spoke through our minds (telepathically). When the dream was over in the dream (crazy I know)I walked out back of this hospital in the dream and saw an ambulance and knew he was in it dead to bring back home. Then I woke up for real and he had died the night before.

Nellieanna, We are all quite the vivid dreamers over here. I dream in color too and have had repetitive dreams since i was a kid. Sis and I took dream analysis and dream symbology in college so we have a lot of fun dissecting our dreams. Thanks for stopping in friend, I love talking about dreams. They are fascinating!
Nellieanna Hay from TEXAS on July 11, 2010:
Too cute! I dream rather rarely but they can be so vivid and real - always in full color and with other senses present. Not always exactly pleasant and sometimes rather complicated.
Do you have or have you ever had repetitive dreams? Sounds like you may have- what with Robert Downey, Jr. being such a heart throb! I haven't had a repetitive dream in a long time, but those, fortunately, were good dreams or at least, triumphant ones.
Dreams are fascinating! What about the others in your household? Are theirs as interesting as yours?
