Yogurt is a dairy product that is produced from milk through fermentation by using bacteria called "yogurt" culture. Different types of milk are used for making yogurt, like buffalo,goat, and cow. But cow's milk is commonly used. Every milk produces a unique set of results. Humans have been consuming it for centuries and have gotten many health benefits. Yogurt was invented in Mesopotamia thousands of years ago, but recently it has gained importance in the United States due to its health benefits. In this article I write about the benefits of yogurt.

One cup of Yogurt contains 49 percent calcium, 28 percent phosphorus, 10 percent magnesium, and 12 percent potassium. It also contains protein vitamin B and carbohydrate.

  • Calcium: Calcium is very important for healthy bones and teeth. It plays a pivotal role in muscle contraction, blood clotting, and nerve function.
  • Phosphorus: Phosphorus is the second most abundant mineral in our body after calcium. It makes one percent of our body weight. Our teeth contain 85 percent of the phosphorus our body.
  • Potassium: Potassium helps the nerves to perform their functions and muscles in contraction. It maintains our blood pressure and protects us from heart diseases.
  • Megnassium: Megnassium is necessary for health. It plays a useful role in muscle contraction, nerve function, and blood sugar levels. It makes bones and DNA.
  • Vitamin B: It is essential for cellular and enzyme functions.It also helps the brain work properly.

The difference between curd and yogurt

The form of yogurt that we make at home is called curd. Curd and yogurt are different in many ways. These are given below.

  • In yogurt, bacteria is added during milk fermentation, but during curd formation, a small amount of yogurt or rennet is added.
  • Yogurt contains more bacteria as compared to curd.
  • By a further process, we can make cheese with curd. But we can not make cheese with yogurt.

  • Yogurt contains probiotics like Bifidobacteria that make better our digestive system.
  • It protects us against antibiotic-associated diarrhea and constipation.
  • It kills the harmful bacteria in the gut.
  • Yogurt has significant importance for IBS () patients. Improvement is seen in those patients who use yogurt regularly.

2) Immune system

  • Regular consumption of yogurt makes our immune system strong.
  • It fights effectively against gastrointestinal infections.
  • It makes our respiratory system strong.
  • Zinc and magnesium also boost immunity.

3) Cancer

  • Yogurt has anti-carcinogenic properties that protect us from cancer.

4) Heart diseases

  • Yogurt plays a pivotal role in maintaining blood pressure.
  • High blood pressure is a major cause of heart diseases. It also maintains our blood sugar levels.

5) Bones

  • Yogurt contains calcium and phosphorus that are important for healthy bones.
  • Yogurt is very useful for osteoporosis(Osteoporosis is a disease that weakens bones to the point where they break easily).

6) Stress

  • Yogurt plays a useful role in decreasing stress and depression.

  • In this way, it is helpful in losing weight.

Make your own yoghurt at home

You can make yogurt at home by following the following steps.

  • Boil the milk.
  • Then turn off the gas. When the temperature of the milk becomes normal, add a small amount of yogurt (3 to 4 tablespoons in one liter of milk) and mix it.
  • Your yoghurt is ready after 8 to 9 hours or overnight.

Side effects of yogurt

There are no side effects to yogurt. Those who have a milk allergy should use it once in their life. Maybe they do not have a yogurt allergy. Sugar patients of the 2nd category can use it in low quantities. But more consumption of yogurt is not good.

Answer: You can use yogurt or milk for weight gain or loss. Those who want to gain weight should consume 4 cups of yogurt daily. On the other hand, those who want to lose weight should use 2 cups of yogurt daily. Similarly, normal people who do not want to gain or lose weight should use 3 cups of yogurt daily.

Question: Is yogurt necessary for children's health?

Answer: Yes, yogurt contains calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamin B, protein, and carbohydrates. These plays important role for child health. Those children who do not like eating yogurt can eat it by adding some fruit to it. It is healthy and homemade. There are many flavours of yogurt available on the market, like strawberry and chocolate but these are not good.

Answer: Curd is a homemade product, and it is more beneficial for your health as compared to yogurt.
