Use Your Smartphone As a Weight Loss and Fitness Tool

As you’ll discover, all of the popular weight loss programs, including Weight Watchers, SlimFast, and Jenny Craig, have proprietary mobile apps that allow you to follow and manage their respective weight loss programs from virtually anywhere, plus interact with weight loss coaches via text messaging from within the app.

Of course, if the weight loss program you choose has a subscription-based meal plan associated with it, you’ll need to stick with that diet, and follow whatever exercise program is recommended for you by the weight loss program.

However, the smartphone app for your chosen weight loss program can be used to guide you through every step of the weight loss process, count your calories as they’re consumed, track your movement throughout the day, plus provide instruction, motivation and feedback, while giving you easy access to other tools and nutrition-related information that’s associated with your weight loss program.

Available from the App Store if you’re an iPhone user, or the Google Play Store if you’re an Android-based smartphone user, you’ll also discover many weight loss and exercise program apps that are designed specifically to be managed from anywhere using an Internet-connected computer and/or mobile decide.

One such service that’s become popular recently is called Noom. It’s an online-based fitness and weight loss program that’s inexpensive, easy-to-follow, and that claims to take a different approach to helping people achieve their desired results.

When you first access the Noom website or launch the service’s proprietary mobile app, you’ll be asked if your primary goal is fitness or weight loss. You’ll then be asked a series of questions about yourself and your objectives. For this service to work, it’s important to be open and honest with all of your responses to the interactive questionnaire.

As you provide answers to questions related to your weight loss goals, as well as current height, current weight, and age, for example, the Noom website or mobile app explains that when using the service, long-term results are achieved through a change in your habits and behavior, not through restrictive dieting. This process uses what’s called “cognitive behavior therapy.”

After spending five to 10 minutes completing the questionnaire, a results screen shows you how long it should take you to achieve your personalized and desired goals. What’s unique about the Noom plan is that it takes 5 to 10 minutes per day to learn the techniques required to permanently adjust your eating habits and behaviors.

Everything can be managed and achieved using the Noom mobile app or website. Of course, as with any weight loss or fitness plan, if you want to see results, you must stick with it and follow the directions and advice that’s provided.

Noom offer a low cost 14-day trial. After that, plan on spending upwards of $30 per month to fully utilize the comprehensive program. It includes a personalized plan to achieve your desired weight loss and fitness goals.

Once you begin following your personalized plan, the Noom app helps you log your meals, track your weight, and count your steps - plus offers the information, instruction, motivation, and tools needed to successfully complete the program. If questions arise, or you need an extra motivational boost, a team of professional trainers and nutritionists are available to help via an in-app chat feature.

Beyond the popular diet and weight loss plans, there are many mobile apps that can help you with healthy meal planning and meal preparation, or assist you in following a specialized keto, vegetarian, vegan, low calorie, low carb, or gluten-free diet, for example.

Before simply downloading and following a weight loss, diet, or fitness app’s recommendations, consult with your doctor. Together, choose a program that’ll work best for you, based on your medical history and objectives. It’s then your responsibility to follow the app’s guidance and advice on a consistent basis.

For people who are able to keep themselves motivated and focused, these mobile app-based programs will allow you to achieve your goals on your own, and at your own pace – often for much less money than joining a gym or working with an in-person diet or fitness coach.

In addition to weight loss, there are countless mobile apps and smartphone-related tools that will help you become more active and physically fit, whether you plan to walk, run, exercise, participate in yoga, use at-home fitness equipment, swim, or cycle, for example.

Especially if you’re stuck at home more than usual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and you find yourself experiencing a higher level of stress, you can easily find free or low-cost apps that will teach you how to do basic yoga and medication. There are also apps designed to coach you through at-home workouts that do not require any specialized fitness or gym equipment.

For example, there are a handful of apps that offer a 7-minute per day workout routine that’s easy to follow and designed for people at any fitness level. To find diet or fitness apps, within the Search field of the App Store or Google Play Store, use the search term “diet,” “weight loss,” “Free At-Home Workout,” “Introduction to Yoga,” “Introduction to Medication,” or “7-Minute Workout,” for example.
