The Benefits of Regular Meditation

There are many benefits associated with meditation, here are just some of them.

Gain New Perspective

Meditation can help you to gain a whole new perspective on a negative situation. Sometimes, we react too quickly or react based on fear, anger or sadness. Taking the time to clear the mind and focus on being in the present moment can often help you to gain a new perspective on the situation at hand. Can you control people or situations? Not really, the only thing you can really control is how you react to a particular situation therefore, if we learn to take a step back and remain calm, it might just help. Meditation does that, it gives you a safe space to let go and float, relinquish control and accept what is and what will be.

Do you remember a time when you struggled to remain focused on a particular task, you battled with thoughts and feelings and struggled to fight off negative emotions. Maybe you should have been studying instead of thinking about your relationship situation or the problems that exist in your family. Maybe you should have been writing or creating something for a client but instead you sat daydreaming of every problem you face at present. Taking a step back to sit down and meditate for a while can help you to focus. Really focus and go deep into the task you need to carry out. As you meditate, forget about everything, clear your mind and just be, live in the moment and let go of the need to control. Happiness permeates through every aspect of your life when you learn to let go.

You will find that when you step out of your meditative state, you are able to focus better and create whatever it is you were creating more effectively. If you are reading this because you are struggling to focus on a particular task, just take five minutes to meditate.

Improve Your Mood

You are human, there will surely be days when you just don’t feel like smiling or putting on a brave face, that is fine. However, prolonged periods of low mood and sadness can affect every aspect of your life. It is important to understand your emotions, locate the source and also try and elevate your mood at the appropriate time. To boost the mood, meditate for a few minutes when you feel down. Practice self-care and be intentional about your day to day to life, it might not be easy on some days but start the day with meditation, you will thank yourself for it.

Reduce Anxiety

Anxious feelings, fear and overall feelings of dread and despair can seep into all areas of your existence if you let them. However, anxiety really is a sickness of the mind, we can control our minds if we learn to let go, it is hard, extremely challenging, very difficult but a few minutes of meditation can help to reduce feelings of anxiety. You will notice after a few minutes that your quickening heartbeat will slowly be done some, your sweaty palms might just dry up and shaky hands might begin to feel steady again. Lean into the meditation and let the feelings of calm wash over you like ocean water. Just let it be, you will feel different.

Stay Grounded

Meditation helps you to stay grounded in the moment, we often live in the past or the future. When we have no power to control the past or the future. Yes, we can step into the process of designing or shaping our destiny however, nothing is certain so we just have to let go of all expectations and learn to live in the present moment.

A very orderly piece with necessary inspiration for many at this time. I'm hoping to write another piece on this soon.

Are you in Accra? We have a Centre there, so if you wish to hear a talk, or are seeking a Master, then let me know. Thanks.
