“Patients are nothing but riff-raff. The only useful purposes they serve are to help us earn a living and to provide learning material. In any case, we cannot help them.”
Sigmund Freud, an icon of psychiatry, considered to be the Father of the Psychotherapy Movement, whose ideas saturate later theories and therapies, is quoted above.
Psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies would prefer you didn't know or have easy access to information about the crippling and even lethal effects of psychotropic drugs. The complex medical jargon used to describe the drugs and their "adverse effects" can often put consumers off from even looking.
While billions of tax dollars are paid each year to fight the "War on Drugs," psychiatrists are dreaming up new mental illnesses to fund a multi-billion dollar legal drug industry.
The direct result is a fast escalating, worldwide consumption of their addictive, mind-altering drugs.
They would like you to believe that there is an epidemic of mental disease—and that mind-altering drugs are the cure. They market to the public that their drugs are indispensable to the problems of everyday living. Yet, psychiatrists admit they do not know the cause of or cure for any mental disorder.
In fact, there is a complete absence of scientific tests to confirm a psychiatric diagnosis. In a recent study, scientists have revealed that there is no connection between schizophrenia and the genes most commonly believed to cause the condition. There is however, an exhaustive list of statistics related to pscyhotropic drug side effects and even deaths.
The biggest drug-addiction problem in the world doesn't involve heroin, cocaine or marijuana. In fact, it doesn't involve an illegal drug at all. The world's biggest drug-addiction problem is posed by a group of drugs, the benzodiazepines, which are widely prescribed by doctors and taken by countless millions of perfectly ordinary people around the world. In the period between 1990 - 1996, benzodiazepines caused 1,810 deaths in Britain, making them more lethal than heroin, cocaine and methadone, which combined accounted for 1,623 deaths. In 2001, a British study reported an ‘increase in hostility and aggression may be reported by patients taking benzodiazepines. The effects range from talkativeness and excitement to aggressive and antisocial acts.’ Professor C. Heather Ashton reported cases of baby-battering, wife-beating and 'grandmother-bashing' could be attributed to people taking benzodiazepines.
A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.
Wearing the veil of Scientists, Psychiatry has convinced society they are authorities but psychiatrists destroy lives with brutal cures and addictive mind-altering drugs.
Believe it or not, more than 100,000 people die every year in psychiatric institutions. How is it, that such savagery is allowed to continue? Some of the worst human rights atrocities in the world are committed inside psychiatric institutions, which are funded by billions of dollars in government appropriations. Trusted with the care for the mentally disturbed, psychiatry has failed to provide basic humane solutions to their plight. Instead of receiving comfort and proper care, psychiatric patients are detained against their will, restrained, shackled to furniture, tortured with electric shock, forced to ingest toxic substances, experimented upon and locked up in isolation.
To help understand how this could be, a brief look at their history reveals a great deal.
In 1879, Professor Wilhelm Wundt radically changed the course of history when he denounced the soul as irrelevant. Man was declared a victim of his environment with little conscious control over thoughts and actions - an animal to be shaped by his master. The belief that force can monitor thinking, personality and behaviour, found great favour with the government and laid the foundation for the most destructive era in man's history.
But long before Hitler came to power, psychiatrists already originated the idea of killing 'undesirables'. The artificial separation of humankind by colour has been with us for a very long time. But it was psychiatry and psychology that provided the 'scientific' justification for racism, apartheid and the assault and genocide of ethnic groups.
In the mid 1800's British psychologist Francis Galton, a cousin of Charles Darwin, promoted breeding better human stock and discouraged the reproduction of less desirable people. Herbert Spencer also claimed that selective breeding of the fittest would bring about a superior race, while the unfit should be allowed to die out. Psychiatrists in Germany, developed the pseudoscience of Eugenics with its ideas of racial purity. They claimed super races could be bred to improve racial characteristics much the same way as humans breed horses to develop bigger, stronger animals. These notions of cultural hierarchy caught on in America and by the 1920s eugenics sterilization had penetrated into American culture. In Russia, psychiatrists invented disorders so that Soviet leaders could institutionalise (sane) political dissidents for such illnesses as sluggish schizophrenia, some symptoms of which were inflexibility of convictions, nervous exhaustion due to a struggle for truth and justice and criminal lunacy which was identifiable by criticism of the government or communism.
By infiltrating Hollywood, movies began to portray psychiatrists as the 'authoritarian voice of reason, adjustment and well-being.' By legitimizing itself on the silver screen, psychiatry popularised the notion that drugs, analysis and other psychiatric treatments held the secrets to happier living.
Psychiatry has also penetrated the Justice system and has produced only escalating crime rates internationally. Although incapable of either predicting future dangerousness or of rehabilitating criminals as evidenced by soaring crime statistics, psychiatrists still testify in court on behalf of the highest bidder - with billing ranging from $3,600 to $25,000 per testimony - asserting that offenders are not responsible for what they have done but are instead victims of fictitious mental disorders.
Lest we forget
psychiatry's involvement with the Military and Intelligence Agencies. In 1953,
Project MKULTRA attempted to create Manchurian
Candidates - unwitting assassins using
drugs and hypnosis. Psychologist George Estabrooks reported, 'only a people
who refuse to permit themselves to sink into intellectual lethargy and
conformity, only a people who question and think....can be sure that hypnosis, disguised
or direct, will not undermine their freedom and rob them of their very lives.' Have a look at the 'Goals' section here to see the study of an assortment of mind altering substances as described by the CIA.
ECT or electroconvulsive therapy still goes on today across the world in psychiatric institutions. It is a well-established but very controversial psychiatric treatment involving searing the brain with 180 - 480 volts of electricity. The FDA reports the following effects: miscarriage in women, severe memory loss, seizures, tremors, dementia and severe weight loss.
Public outcry in 1950 against the practices of psychosurgery and ECT created a need for other methods of controlling mental patients. Thus, the first in a long series of potent psychotropic (mood-altering) drugs arrived in psychiatric institutions across the globe. Thorazine, part of a class of drugs called antipsychotics had been compared in strength to a lobotomy! Within 8 months of its release, psychiatrists prescribed and administered Thorazine to an estimated 2 million patients, ¾ of them outside of institutions. First used only on the insane, psychotropic drugs and the staggering range of addictive chemicals that followed were increasingly prescribed for minor disabilities and, finally to perfectly normal people.
In a truly incestuous relationship, psychiatrists invent mental disorders and drug companies follow with new drugs to cure them.
It's Big Money.
The more diagnoses there are every year, the more mind-altering drugs they are going to be able to market and sell.
There is only one passion that truly motivates the psychiatric industry - Money. Psychiatry saw the need to expand its market with a new array of mental illnesses to guarantee profits. Inventing mental diseases is a way for psychiatrists to make more money. Every psychiatric solution, incarceration, psychosurgery, electroshock, the drugging of populations embarked upon, not on the hypothesis that it might help, but to generate a new source of income. To ensure a continuously consuming market, one has to come up with more products and better reasons to buy. With publications such as the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders with its ever-increasing list of mental disorders, psychiatry has secured a firm share of the medical market and a very profitable partnership with the pharmaceutical industry.
Is it a coincidence that more psychiatrists and psychologists have been criminally charged than any other sector of the health care industry?
Psychiatric propaganda on child education has thoroughly duped well-meaning parents, teachers and politicians into believing that normal childhood behaviour is a mental illness. 6 million children in the US are taking prescribed cocaine-like stimulants for disorders such as ADHD (Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder). 2 million children and adolescents are taking antidepressants that can induce violent or suicidal behaviour.
When Sigmund Freud began prescribing some of his patients cocaine, research at the time suggested that cocaine could be used for urethral operations, removing ingrown toenails, catarrh, asthma, nymphomania, impotency, masturbation, lip waxing, seasickness, weight problems, head colds, gastritis, and toothache. Needless to say, now we all know better.
It is only a matter of time until all psychotropic drugs will fall under the same category as cocaine or other Class A drug. In future, we will be reading about the time when ignorant psychiatrists used to prescribe deadly and severely mind-altering chemical substances to patients who were completely normal. On a lighter note, we can only speculate as to how 20th Century history would be different if the Germans had discovered marijuana instead of cocaine!
In truth, psychiatry is a business, not a healing profession.
They invent mental disorders and demand funds from government for research and treatment.
As long as psychiatry partners with the pharmaceutical industry, the psychiatric associations of the world will vote more and more disorders into existence.
If you liked this aritcle, maybe you would also find my other hub about the pharmaceutical industry just as interesting.

Control, brain damage and bank accounts. Very true. Spot on!

All these shrinks know is control, brain damage and bank accounts.
Captain High on February 05, 2012:
The antipsychotics do lobotomise. I'm certain of it. There was nothing wrong with me but they decide there is and that's final. Anyone would become ill being treated like that.
Lily on February 02, 2012:
People often get sore dry nose and sinus trouble on meds. Maybe they really do labotamize.
Captain High on February 02, 2012:
I was forced to take high strength antipsychotics in "hospital" . Felt like id been shot in forehead, just above nose. After 1 week developed shuffling gait and staff said i was making progress!

Psychiatrists believe EVERYONE is CRAZY apart from THEMSELVES hmmmm let me think about that one.Well I believs its a no brainer really!!! isn't it?? Its obviously the so called Psychiartic teams are the Psychos who are looking after the so called " best interests of the patients" It could be you or anyone who walks through their door or not. they will decide you are ill anyway and shove tablets down your throat. oh and did you realise they left of the fact that most these drugs cause tumors that are most likely to turn cancerous in your stomache off the side effects list. I Wonder Why?????

Interesting. Thorazine acts directly on the frontal lobe so in effect it is the same as the physical procedure.
