Teens Suffering From Anxiety and Depression

As you know, some teenagers suffer from anxiety or depression, even some suffer from both, 1 in 5 teenagers suffer from depression at some point in their lives.

Teen depression is a serious mental health problem that causes a constant feeling of sadness and a loss of interest in doing different activities.



Teens are at higher risk for depression if they have low self-confidence, have family problems, or if mood disorders run in their families.

Some of the symptoms are frequent irritability with sudden outbursts of anger, increased sensitivity to criticism, complaints of headaches, stomachaches or other bodily problems. The child may go to the school nurse a lot.

Some teenagers have emotional changes such as fits of anger or crying, low self-esteem, feelings of lack of self-worth or guilt, insomnia or the opposite of sleeping too much.



The other thing is anxiety. Anxiety is a feeling of fear, dread and restlessness. It can make you sweat, feel restless and tense, and have a palpitation. It can be a normal reaction to stress.

Scientists aren't able to discover what exactly causes anxiety but some theories are the genetic, the biochemistry of the brain, the stressful circumstances or an hyperactive answer to a fight.



Also some types of teenagers that have anxiety may be caused by having bad grades at school, also the kids who try too hard to get good grades are prone to anxiety as they don't rest and put themselves in intense situations due to lack of sleep or socialization.

Some of those who suffer from this resort to and trust their friends or colleagues more than their relatives such as their parents or siblings. This happens because it is suspected that the greatest cause of anxiety in adolescents is due to the pressure that their parents put on them and that with their friends they can feel freer and can express themselves better.

Untreated anxiety can also cause various problems such as suicide, since the presence of an anxiety disorder is associated with a higher frequency of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Given the high personal and social costs of suicidal behavior, suicide prevention is a priority.

Just as there are people who hide anxiety, there are also those who hide their depression, some do it because they do not want to accept that they suffer or they also do it so that people do not worry about them, one of the things they do to relax is listen to music, they also remain falsely optimistic as long as people do not find out.

There are also people who have friends or acquaintances with depression, these people realize seeing different symptoms such as that they are always tired or discouraged, you can also notice it when that person is locked in their thoughts on a daily basis and does not want to do anything with anyone.



Anxiety can also give you fits of anger. Anger and irritability are typical symptoms of anxiety and one of its most frequent manifestations. Those people with anxiety problems are more susceptible to anger and to get upset easily. Knowing how to take control of anger and anxiety will allow you to feel better and have a better self-awareness.



Although it is difficult, anxiety and depression can be cured, some examples to cure anxiety are:

  4. Writing.
  5. Strategies for time management.
