What is the importance of self-care and self-love?
Self-care entails replenishing one's resources while not taking others for granted. Being selfish, on the other hand, is taking advantage of the suffering of others for your benefit. Drawing a line between these two will help you in understanding the former's deeper meaning.
However, people tend to prejudge “self-care” as selfish. It is the deadly poison that hinders them to see the importance of self-care. They become misguided by the gap between those two words. Disappointing as it may seem, but take it to your heart that self-care is important just as any other “care”; it is far from being selfish.
Self-care encourages you to create and maintain a healthy relationship with yourself so that you can transmit good feelings to others. As a result, you allow yourself to dive into the vast ocean of self-growth and self-love. This means that you help yourself accept your emotions for what they are and put your physical, emotional, and mental well-being first. It motivates you to make healthy decisions in life; it gives you peace of mind. When you hold yourself in high esteem, you are more likely to choose the things that nurture your well-being and serve you well. And, when you allow yourself to have adequate attention for your well-being, you are not considering your needs alone. Because, in reality, you also affect the people around you.
Now, I would like to take you on a 5-day challenge of self-care. Do not be intimidated by this challenge, but instead focus on the process. Do not pressure yourself, and be less worried about how others might think about you. You might not realize that this 5-day
could become more than that and you will thank yourself for that.
So, in 5 days, pay yourself with 10-15 minutes a day, or longer, it is up to you. It can be any time of the day or night; so long as you allow yourself to focus only on yourself at the time when you are feeling it the most. Slow down and take your time.
During these minutes, help yourself in doing the things that make you happy. You can read books about self-care or novels that interest you. You can meditate and go back to your reasons for keeping you going on. You can also do simple things such as taking a shower or eating. Find ways that you believe can contribute to your growth. Learn new skills for yourself. Look for moments that will help you become more aware of the state of yourself. The most important thing to remember is to invest in yourself. Love yourself and get rid of anything that has a negative impact on you.
The only person who will understand you the most is yourself.
Help yourself, take a BREAK!
You are the greatest help and asset of your life. And, you are the only one who has the power to do that. Before you will feel the true essence of self-love and care, you have to accept the true you. As the saying goes, you can’t give what you don’t have. You can’t be what you are not.. Close your eyes, have a deep breath, and feel the calmness of your environment. Remember, it is you, and it's only you who knows the real you. Believe more in empowering yourself and accept YOU. Because at the end of the day, this is about YOU.
We’re afraid that people will judge us and most importantly, we’re afraid to fail. Where in fact, these are just part of our success.
Understanding is the first step toward acceptance, and only acceptance allows for recovery. You couldn't go back in time and skip the bad parts of your life without losing what made it worthwhile.
Begin your journey of loving yourself and making it a priority without hesitating or second-guessing your abilities. Nothing is impossible in this world if you begin to believe in yourself; which is why self-love and care are so important.
