Uses of turmeric
Turmeric, sometime calls indian saffron. The scientific name of turmeric is Curcuma Longa. It belongs to ginger family. It is a tall plant that grows in asia and central america.
It is commonly used in asian food. It has a warm bitter taste. The root of the turmeric is also used widely to make medicine and it has powerful biological properties.
Ayurvedic medicine, a traditional indian system of treatment recommends turmeric for a variety of Health condition. Turmeric dates back nearly 400 to the vedic culture in india. Today, turmeric widely cultivated in the tropic and goes by different names in different cultures and countries. In north india turmeric is commonly called 'haldi'.( Haldi is a word derived from the sankrit word haridra). The Turmeric plants needs temperature between 20°C and 30°c considerable amount of annual rain fall to thrive.
Although modern medicine has been routinely used in treatment of various diseases, it is less than 100 years old. Traditional medicine, in comparison, has served mankind for thousands of years, is quite safe and effective. The mechanism or the scientific basis of traditional medicine, however, is less well understood.
India produces nearly world turmeric crops and consumes 80% of it. indian turmeric is considered to be the best in the world. Tamil Nadu (a south indian state) is the worlds largest producer of and the most important trading center of turmeric. It also known as 'The yellow city" or "Turmeric city"
Before turmeric can be used, the turmeric rhizomes must be processed. rhizomes are placed in shallow pans in large iron vats containing 0.05–0.1% alkaline water.The rhizomes are then boiled for between 40–45 minutes . The rhizomes are removed from the water and dried in the sun immediately to prevent overcooking. The final moisture content should be between 8% and 10% (wet basis). When finger tapping of the rhizome produces a metallic sound, it is sufficiently dry. The dried rhizomes are polished to remove the rough surface. Sometimes, lead chromate is used to produce a better finish, but for obvious reasons this practice should be actively discouraged. The powder maintains its coloring properties indefinitely, although the flavor may diminish over time. Protecting the turmeric powder from sunlight retards the rate of deterioration.
Some studies have found turmeric to be effective in treating hepatitis. Curcumin, a chemical found in turmeric, can improve the health of liver cells. It is very effective in people with liver disease due to alcohol or drug overdoses.
Drink turmeric by mixing it with cold water or boiling water. Including turmeric in your diet is also beneficial.Turmeric can be prepared by grinding it into paste or oil and ointments. Psoriasis, wounds and sores can be cured by applying turmeric powder. Add turmeric water and mix to mix. Turmeric juice is good for sinus and ear pain.
A recent University of California study suggests curcumin is effective in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
It prevents the accumulation of beta amyloids and disrupts the deposits found in the brain of Alzheimer's patients.Turmeric is also beneficial for Parkinson's patients. Researchers say turmeric can be effective in treating systemic fibroids and ulcerative colitis
Turmeric can also help relieve pain in patients suffering from arthritis and arthritis. Turmeric is also used in the treatment of breast cancer. It is due to these medicinal properties that turmeric is a regular presence in home treatments and cosmetics. Turmeric strips can remove unwanted hairs. It also increases the complexion of the face and keeps the harmful bacteria away from the body.
Use and quantity
Add turmeric to your diet. Available in turmeric powder form. Drinking it with herbal tea and mixing it with honey or hot water will help relieve stomach problems. Curcumin is available in liquid form. The dose should be determined based on whether turmeric or curcumin are used. Turmeric powder can be consumed daily from 2 to 3 times a day. Take 250-500 mg of curcumin tablets three times a day.
Turmeric is very safe. No significant side effects have been reported yet. However, pregnant and lactating mothers should only be prescribed by a doctor.

An excellent and informative article. I use turmeric when cooking mainly adding it to rice. However, it appears to be so beneficial in many other ways and has wonderful healing properties. Thank you for sharing this useful article.
