Why I Bought a Teeter Hang Ups Inversion Table
Teeter Hang Ups is the most successful brand of inversion table on the market. After doing my usual online research I chose Teeter Hang Ups over the other competitiors because there were so many positive reviews. And inversion table allows you to easily hang upside down relieving the pressure on your spine and joints. The reason you want an inversion table is simple… it’s so much easier to get into an inverted position with a table than it is with a door bar. Most people with spine problems simply do not have the flexibility or strength to lift themselves upside down onto a bar. An inversion table allows an individual of any age and almost any size to easily invert themselves, and more importantly come back to an upright position very quickly and safely.
Better than Chiropractic Adjustments?

for back problems. If you have back or neck pain you have probably either visited a Chiropractor or thought about visiting one. The main reason people go to Chiropractors is because regular doctors don't provide any hands on treatments... they write a prescription and give you advice. Whereas a Chiropractor offers treatment options... hands on. I am not here to say if it works or not, I'm just stating the reason why. The cause of pain is inflammation of soft tissues pressing on nerves. And when you are in pain you care less about "why" and a whole lot more about "make it stop".
But what is a Chiropractic adjustment really doing? The Chiropractor moves the spine with his hands and fingers. But how does this fix anything? As soon as you leave your spine goes right back to whatever positions it was before because of postural habits. Again I’m not writing this to judge the Chiropractic profession; I bring it up for cost comparison issues. It’s a lot cheaper to relieve the pressure on your spinal column with your own table than it is to pay a Chiropractor for decompression treatments.
I purchased my Teeter Hang Ups inversion table a couple of years ago from Costco. I believe the model I purchased was the Teeter f5000 which looks exactly like the picture above. At the time Teeter also made another model the f9000 at that time. If you visit their website today you’ll find several newer models are also available. If you have read any of my hubs you probably know that I’m a big fan of Costco. I bought my inversion table at Costco because I wanted a convenient option of returning the inversion table should I not like it. Try returning anything online of this size from a no name company and you are just asking for trouble.
When I first got my Teeter Hang Ups Table I was unsure I would feel any real benefits… but amazingly I did after only a few sessions. At first I would only invert a small amount maybe 10-20 degrees. Then after a couple sessions I quickly began full inversion (Hanging upside down completely). It’s actually very easy to do, and surprisingly relaxing.
What makes an inversion table easy-to-use is the balance you create when you adjust the table for your exact size. If you remember as a child playing on a teeter totter with another friend you will understand the principals of balance at work here. Your body weight is distributed across the pivoting arm of the table in near perfect 50-50 weight distribution once adjusted. All you have to do to lean back and increase your angle of recline is raise your arms above your head… if you do this slowly you recline slowly… do it fast and you flip over fast. Then to recover an upright position you simply place your arms by your side. The table is so incredibly balanced that simply shifts of even the small amount of weight in your arms will readily shift your position.
You Shouldn't Be Scared of Inversion Tables - They are as easy as Childhood Teeter Totters and Very Safe to Use
If you are not comfortable with fully reclining at first or are elderly or have balance problems you can use the safety straps which prevent full incline, and should use the equipment with a “spotter”. Getting on and off of the table is actually very easy as well. Once you get the “hang” of it (pun intended) you’ll find inverting is very relaxing and even fun. I look forward to hanging upside down for a few minutes before I go to bed at night.
Inversion Boots make for a more Enjoyable Experience
Let me talk for a bit about the advantages of the Teeter Inversion Boots over just the standard table. Inversion boots did not come with my table so I had to purchase them separately. I don’t like wearing shoes in the house or when I am stretching. To use the standard inversion table without boots requires you to wear shoes so your feet do not slip out and to prevent injury to the top of your foot. With the Gravity Inversion Boots you can hand upside down in your socks or bare feet should you choose. I’m including a picture of the boots for those who have never used an inversion table before. As you can see the boots are not boots as much as they are ankle straps… wrapped in foam.
I’d recommend you get the inversion boots to match your table because they are so much more comfortable than the default bar. One problem I had with my first pair of boots was the foam adhesive was defective and the soft foam came detached from the hard plastic shell. I was surprised this happened as for such an expensive product (I believe I paid over $125 for the inversion boots) the quality seemed so low. I bought the boots online (Costco didn’t have them) from some website I can’t even remember. So I thought I would have a real problem. Fortunately when I called the manufacturer of the Teeter Hang Ups boots they quickly resolved the problem by replacing the defective boots. Since that time I have had no problem with the replacements.
Why You May Want to Consider Inversion Therapy
I bought my table to relax and help stretch out my spine because I spend so much time sitting all day long in front of a computer. There are a number of benefits to using inversion therapy and I will paraphrase a bit from the Manufacturers Website:

Realign Your Spine – the back is a complex array of muscles, ligaments, and soft tissues. When the back moves out of alignment from bad postural behaviors the support structures are called upon to hold these alignments. In order to decompress and release these forces you need to decompress the soft tissues. Sure you could pay a Chiropractor to put you on some expensive machine and charge you $60 plus per treatment, or you could just use your own inversion table and accomplish even more because your entire back is decompressed not just a few isolated segments.

In 1990, a British osteopath named Leon Chaitow published a book titled *Osteopathic Self-Treatment: Safe and Effective Self-Help Techniques for Relaxing Tense Muscles and Easing Pain* and I picked up a copy.
I should've bought out the store. It's out of print now, and used copies are going for nearly eighteen bucks minimum by way of Amazon.com.
One of the things I discovered rather early on is that the habits of posture and movements associated with patients' activities of daily living tended to cause a bunch of the musculoskeletal structural dysfunctions I saw in clinical practice, and despite good results with manipulative therapy (I'm not a chiropractor) in the office, their problems would recur.
What to do?
Well, Chaitow provided some damned good answers. He took well-tested principles of osteopathic manipulation and turned them into exercises - assisted and unassisted - which patients could use on a daily basis, safely and effetively.
Working out of Chaitow, I learned to take the "teach a man to fish" approach, and most patients liked the notion. Instead of having to schedule an appointment and sit in a waiting room, they could take remediative measures on their own, and only come in when they had something they couldn't handle.
And usually it was possible for me to show them how to add one or two approaches to self-treatment (a la Chaitow) to their repertoire.
No problem. It's not as if the third-party insurance companies ever paid me to perform manipulative therapy, no matter how I coded for such procedures.
You want to know why us "regular doctors" just examine you and write prescriptions? It's because the same interventions as those practiced by the chiropractors (which really aren't hard either to learn or to do) don't get paid for when they're performed by a "regular doctor."
If you can figure out why that should be so, please let me know. I've given up.
