What is Surya Namaskara or Sun Salutation?

Surya Namaskara is saluting Sun God, by bowing to Him in 12 steps and 12 rounds. Surya Namaskar is performed in open air, facing the sun, at sunrise. It is beneficial to practice Surya Namaskar early in the morning. The early morning sunrays are rich source of vitamin D that is necessary to get strong bones and clear vision.

For each of the postures, there is a particular breathing pattern to be followed, and a particular mantra to be chanted, (as mentioned below) at the beginning of each round.

Surya Namaskara Mantra is given below. While performing Surya Namaskara, In the first and concluding rounds, more attention is to be given on each step, doing slowly and stretching properly.

In the beginning please don't attempt to do all the exercises at a stretch, if you have some health problems. Do it slowly whatever you can, and gradually you will be able to do the full steps.

This hub is on a subject that i knew nothing about and I think this added to the interest.

I can't do all of the excercises due to two operations on my back but I may try some whether just doing one or four or six I don't know if that would be beneficialThis is one of the reasons that I love HP is that there is so much variety in the hubs.

Since I've joined I feel as if I may only be on the first few rungs of the ladder of learning.
