The term “stress”, as was coined by Hans Selye in 1936, who defined this as “the non-specific response of the body to any demand for change”. In simple words, stress is caused by wanting something to be the way that it isn’t.

Why is it so important to learn to handle stress?

By stressing yourself you’re putting your entire well-being at a high level of risk. When stress is not managed properly, it can cause serious health effects including; increased blood pressure, suppressed immune system, greater risk of heart attacks and strokes, and an increased chance of experiencing some sort of mental, physical, or emotional health issues.

Stress Management allows us to take a step back and click the reset button in your life. The ultimate goal is a balanced life, with time for work, relationships, relaxation, and fun and better preparation for future stressful situations and tackling them head-on.

Tip 1: First Identify the sources of stress in your life

The first step in stress management is finding the stressors. A wide variety of conditions, situations, and pressures can cause stress to any person at any given moment. These stress-causing situations and pressures are also known as “stressors". So, we must first find the root cause of our stress. You can identify your source of stress by closely looking at your habits and attitude toward problems. It is important to note that stress is not a “one size fits all” concept means it is not the same for all. What stress one person may or may not stress others. So, pause for a moment find your own stressors.

Tip 2: Accept that there are events that you cannot control

The second rule in stress management is to accept that there are a variety of stressors that are not in your personal voluntary control. You can’t prevent or change the stressors like death or serious illness of a loved one, by birth deformities, one has, etc. In such cases, the best way to cope with it is to accept the situation as they are. Acceptance is much easier than holding on to that thing that you can’t control.

Tip 3: Change your perspective toward stressful situations

Once you have accepted the stressors which are not in your voluntary control then it’s easy for you to adapt to them. Adaptation means you are changing your perspective toward those stressors. This can be done by handling the situation with a positive attitude.

Try practicing Gratitude. This practice is an instant stress-buster in stress management techniques. Gratitude and stress are the two opposite sides of a coin. You can’t look at both sides of a coin at once. If you are grateful for what you have your stress vanishes in a minute.

Tip 4: Avoid unnecessary stress

Avoiding unwanted and irrelevant stressors is the best thing you can do for your soul. A lot of stress came into your life just because you can’t able to say “no” in some irrelevant situations. Learn to say no the all those things that hinder your peace of mind.

Tip 5: Get enough rest and sleep

Another most important factor is to take an adequate amount of sleep. Good sleep fuels your mind and energizes your body. Your body needs time to recover from stressful events.

Tip 6: Exercise Regularly and Learn and practice relaxation techniques

Meditation and Yoga is the greatest gift to the world and these play a vital role in finding peace out of your hectic schedule and recharge your body.

Also, body movements and physical activity is huge stress reliever—and you don’t have to be an athlete like Cristiano Ronaldo or spend hours in the gym to experience its benefits. Exercise releases endorphins that make you feel good and help you to better manage stress.

Tip 7: Eat healthy, well-balanced meals

In addition to regular exercise, we need balanced and nutritious meals throughout the day. A well-fed and nourished body is better prepared to deal with stressful situations, so be mindful of what you eat. Also, Drink an adequate amount of water.

Tip 8: Make time for hobbies, interests, and relaxation

Every human being has some hobby and interest that he/she love to do in their leisure time. Go back to your interest and hobbies if you are unable to pursue due to some circumstances in your life. See, life is not easy, you need to make time for your mental health. That helps you to enjoy life and keep going.

Tip 9: Learn to manage time more effectively

Poor time management can cause a lot of stress. Because if you are unable to manage your time effectively, you will stretch your work till the deadline and that can cause extra stress. You will also avoid and cut back on all the healthy stress-relieving habits, like exercise, good sleep, etc.

Tip 10: Spend enough time with whom you enjoy

We, humans, are social beings. There is nothing more soothing than spending quality time with the one you love. They may be your parents, siblings, close friends, and life partner. And, getting social is also a major method for handling your stress well. It’s a natural stress reliever.
