Star sister athletes shine at GreenSpeed Training Facility

May 15 is International Day of Families, and there's always been something special and unique about sisterhood. That's evident with five sets of unique sisters at San Diego's Best Gym who train under the Best Personal Trainer, voted by county residents in 2020, at GreenSpeed Training Facility under Tom Green.

Focused on strength, power, agility, speed and much more, Green has trained a vast array of clients from children to professional athletes - and among them, also numerous sets of families, including star pairs of sisters.

"As a personal trainer, it's an honor for me to work with so many different sets of sisters, some of whom I've known for years," Green said. "To see them develop into not only great athletes but also great people is beyond rewarding for me to be involved with."

Meet these impressive families and how their work at GreenSpeed is paying off.

Natalia, 17, is a tennis player, while sister Daniela, 13, is involved with swim and softball. "GreenSpeed has had a positive impact with my athletic performance and the environment is always uplifting," said Daniela.

Natalia shared a similar sentiment. "Ever since I’ve been training at GreenSpeed, I have noticed an improvement in my athletic performance and everyone there is like family.”

Father Armando is also quite pleased with their training, saying, "Watching my kids workout at GreenSpeed and seeing how their body’s have evolved over time (strength and conditioning) has been wonderful. It’s great that Tom has pushed them to be physically and mentally tough, has their best interest with their workouts. Couldn’t thank Tom and GreenSpeed enough. He is truly family."

Kelly, 23, and Maureen, 19, are longtime members of the gym since, going back all the way since they were in middle school, with activities like soccer, cheerleading, volleyball and dance.

"Personal training teaches invaluable lessons of hard work and dedication. It also is a beautiful thing because it engrains the lesson that anything is possible with hard work. Sports and personal training are also a great outlet to unplug from social media and acts as a natural anxiety killer. It also has increased focus and productivity in our days," said Maureen.

Kelly also added, "GreenSpeed has made a huge positive impact on our lives. Tom has instilled the motto “just show up” in us at a young age which I feel has made a huge impact not only in our sports performance throughout the years, but also how we approach life with determination and vigor. We are forever grateful for the impact he has had on developing our athleticism. Tom also upholds standards and morals in his gym that have created such a distinct positive environment to be part of. There is no better gym than GreenSpeed and no better trainer than Tom Green!"

Selena, 16, and Vanessa, 15, have a variety of sports under their belts: gymnastics, softball, soccer, cross country and track and have been with the facility for two years. Mom Kristey has also seen the benefits of personal training, stating she's seen positive benefits that include, "[Being] Overall physically fit and healthy, commitment to a team, learning to be a good teammate and to be coachable." She also said skills like being goal-oriented and having time management were keys, too.

"Without GreenSpeed, I wouldn't be as strong as I am today. It has pushed me to be a better athlete and has shown me that even when things get hard it's worth it, because you'll miss 100% of the chances you never take," Selena said.

Sister Vanessa also chimed in, stating, "GreenSpeed has helped me so much in all aspects of overall strength which has led me to success on and off the pitch. If you think you can't do something, that is the only reason you need to start."

Melissa, 17, is involved with soccer, cross country and track, while sister Ashley, 14, is also a soccer player. Both have been with Tom at GreenSpeed for a year and a half. Since starting at GreenSpeed, Ashley has noticed a difference, saying, "Since I started going to GreenSpeed and working with Tom, I’ve become stronger and faster and I have noticed it on my performance on the soccer field." Melissa has taken note as well, adding, "GreenSpeed workouts are a whole new level of challenging but without them I wouldn’t be where I’m at today. Each workout has given me an opportunity to tremendously improve my speed, strength, and my overall performance as an athlete."

Their dad George also weighed in on personal training. "Playing sports has been an important part of the girls' childhood because it keeps them active and physically fit. Through sports, the girls have learned the value of setting personal goals, teamwork, commitment, responsibility and hard work. These are important life skills that are essential in any career they pursue. In addition, they’ve been able to make friendships that will last a lifetime," George said. "Through the personal training at GreenSpeed, the girls have been able to focus on further conditioning their bodies to be successful in the sports they play, encouraging overall wellness and health and limiting the risk of injury," he added.

Jaiden, 17, and Kamlyn, 15, are both soccer players - Jaiden has been training with Tom since December of 2019 and Kamlyn has trained for 4 months. “I have learned a lot about fitness and performance since I started working out at GreenSpeed. My strength and speed have both increased exponentially during my time at the gym. It has impacted my life positively in so many ways, and I can’t recommend it enough,” Jaiden said.

Kamlyn has also found motivation away from soccer. “GreenSpeed motivated me to build strength outside of soccer, which is something that I’ve done before,” she added.

Green also shared his insight as a trainer. "From a training point of view, the bonding that these sisters share while enduring difficult workouts and challenges is so beneficial to their health and overall well being," he said. "They all have various strengths and weaknesses, so having a sister there to encourage them through the adversity is great for teamwork and building good habits. In addition to the time they spend together at the gym, they take these benefits home with them which is applied to not only the other family members but also to things such as school, jobs and more."

Family dynamics in the sports and fitness world is also apparent for Green and his clients. "Family health, both mentally and physically, couldn't be more important right now. I'm so impressed with this community and the hard working families that prioritize these aspects of life," added Green.
