Holistic Advocate Dr. Fairy gives an introduction on aromatherapy
There are times when I find myself having to stop and check in with myself. This checking in with my Whole self.
I get overwhelmed. I get distracted from my higher self and purpose here and sometimes I am so full of stress that I suffer and sink, become lost, become detached and by the time I am out of patience, in despair; the pain is mine to bear and account for. So, I check in with myself both by habit and consequence. How am I doing?
And how am I really doing? How did I get to this place that I feel? What factors are involved? Why am I feeling this way at all? Then most importantly is What? What can I do to uplift myself and my spirit after allowing myself to stumble into low vibrations? Sometimes, I find myself full of stress yes but when I find a moment to really stop and check in it is in the same moments that I find myself finding a Lavender or or Lemongrass essential oil to diffuse into the air if not also deeper into the parts of myself that tell me to relax, and listen to my body, my spirit and my mind.
Aromatherapy has many therapeutic benefits and can be used successfully as a treatment for stress, anxiety, depression, certain pains, illnesses and diseases. Essential oils like Patchouli, cinnamon and Neroli are helpful aids for stress and depression. Oils containing Frankincense, Rosemary and Eucalyptus can be used as aids against cold and flu and to boost our immunity. Aromatherapy as a practice has been around for over six thousand years and still proves to be an instant and cost efficient solution to absolving our everyday stressors.
At home I keep a ¼ portion of a jar crushed lavender and rosemary from the garden soaking in ¾ Avocado oil where it sits and infuses into essential oil. This process of infusion can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks and always remember to consider certain sensitivity when choosing an oil as a carrier as nut allergies could be transferable to an Almond or Grapeseed oil. If infusing for tonics or tinctures at home use water in place of oil and try applying the mixtures in spray bottles.
It is easy to neglect ourselves and the attention required by ourselves to achieve balance in our very dynamic and constantly changing lives. Stress is inevitable, for all of us. When we allow ourselves to check in with ourselves we gain the mental strength to cope with the daily stresses of our lives and remain in control of our choices and emotions. There are several ways to limit the stress that we are faced with throughout our lives, including meditation, eating healthily and getting the proper exercise. Even getting sun and connecting with our loved ones can be beneficial to the decrease of stress in our lives.
Aromatherapy alongside of having healthy practices has proven to be an effortless practice in my own rituals at home and even when I find myself almost to the point of breaking do I remember just how easy it is to stop and breath instead.
