Recipe For Best Home Cold Remedy That Really Works

Home Remedy For Colds

Three years ago, I found the best, most effective home cold remedy ever, and it has worked for me ever since!

We have all been there before. It’s late at night and you are sick and tired of being up with the coughing and the sneezing and the rest of all that mess that comes with having a cold. You get desperate. You’ll try ANYTHING at this point! So you crawl out of bed and fire up the computer. It has finally hit you that the answer is out there, on the Internet, somewhere in cyberspace, which is exactly where I found it. To those of you who just found this article while searching for an end to your misery, I thank you for coming, and I’m sorry about your cold. Now let’s get started.

First, the warm-up and disclaimers. I am not a doctor, nor am I any sort of health care professional, so try this at your own risk. No, I don’t believe there is much, if any, risk, but I have to say that. Also, I will tell you up front, this works best if you take it when you are starting to feel like a cold is coming. Taken early, I have rarely had to continue for more than a couple of days. Taken when you are in the midst of a cold, like you might be right now, it may take a little longer to work. Worst of all… this DOES NOT TASTE GOOD! But… it is very effective.

Assembling Your Cold Remedy

Okay, now let’s talk ingredients: Apple Cider Vinegar, Honey, Lemon Juice, Hot Water. It’s that simple. Here’s how the recipe goes together:

  • Heat a mug of water, as if you were going to make tea. I usually fill a microwave-safe mug about two thirds or three quarters full and microwave it for 2 minutes. Depending on the microwave, it might take longer. DO NOT BURN YOURSELF with the hot water or the hot mug.
  • Once you have the mug of hot water on the counter, stir in two tablespoons of honey. Personally, I use "billybee" brand honey, from Sweetbay supermarket. It seems to work best for my home cold remedy.
  • Once the honey is stirred in, add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. I always use White House, but I doubt it makes a huge difference.
  • Next, add a squirt of lemon juice. How much you use is really a personal preference thing, as it serves mostly to cut the, shall we say violence, of the vinegar. You may want to add more after you taste it. I add about a teaspoon or so myself.

Down The Hatch With Your Cold Remedy

You have just mixed up an awesome home cold remedy in just a few minutes, from ingredients that most can find easily at the store, if you don’t already have them in your kitchen. Drink this slowly like you would a cup of tea. Finish it all. When I feel like I might be getting a cold, I will drink this twice a day, morning and evening. If I actually get a cold, because I delayed drinking this, I will try to get three a day in me.

If you are wondering why this works so well (and it really does!) I will tell you this: I believe it is because these three simple ingredients are incredibly good for you! Even a brief search of the internet will reveal dozens, if not hundreds of websites listing all the various health benefits of these ingredients. Here are just a few of their reported health benefits that I found easily:

Try It On Your Next Cold

As I said before, I am no doctor, but I have used this "tea" as needed for three years now, and it almost always does the trick. There have been just a few times when I was out of honey or vinegar that I did not take it early on, and then it still worked for me, but I had to take it longer.

If you have a cold, give it a try, and you won’t have to deal with that cold for long. If you don’t have a cold right now, print this recipe and keep it handy, so you can try it next time.

Hi Lori,

Thanks for stopping in and commenting! I think that fresh squeezed lemon juice might taste a little better, be a little better for you, but overall, certainly no less effective! Good luck, and great health!

Does it matter whether you use real squeezed lemon slice or bottled lemon juice? I have fresh now and an oncoming cold... Florida weather changes like the direction of the wind... was just wondering for future reference. It actually doesn't taste bad at all, but I love lemon so used a good sized slice squeezed in. Also have orange blossom honey this time around, fresh from one of the I75 Florida citrus stands :) thanks for the good tip am sure it will work well (my grandmother used teaspoon of whiskey and honey mix for this when I was little worked like a charm), hate meds love anything all natural like this

Thanks for dropping by ambersagen. I hope your roommate feels better soon! Be sure to warn them about the taste before they try it! :)

I bet this works to clear the sinuses. All the vinegar would certainly help and the honey would be soothing. I will try this on my roommate tonight.
