A few months ago on the BBC channel I saw a documentary about various extreme diets. One of the diets was a Pea soup diet, where for 2 week pea soup is all you eat, but you are able to drink anything that you wish, as long as your total caloric intake is under 500 calories. Because I do have a few pounds to loose I decided to give it a try. The Woman in the documentary lost 15 pounds, because one cup of the soup is only on average 86 calories, (give or take a few calories depending on how you make it) and because i am desperate to lose weight and I do enjoy trying different diets, I have decided to give it a try to hub about it. Some background information is I will live my normally, meaning going to work and continuing my work out every night (about 2 hours long). My starting weight is 222 pounds and i am shooting to loose a minimum of 10 pounds.
BREAKFAST: I had a cup of pea soup and 20oz of unsweetened tea, Surprisingly the pea soup was great and very tasty, I don't think it's going to be hard at all to eat this for 2 weeks. But the unsweetened tea was disgusting and tasted like dish wate,r so I think I will have to find something tasty and low calorie but still filling to drink with my pea soup....LUNCH: Just finished shopping with my girlfriends and it was a lot of fun, and while they ate Cheesecake Factory I just drank an iced unsweetened mint tea. Which was great but then about 4 hours later I started to feel VERY tired and angry at everything. When I got home I ate 2 cups of pea soup because I missed lunch and it was now dinner time. Also on the way home I drank a soy, no whip, venti strawberry and cream Frappuccino, with 4 pumps of toffee nut ( taste like captain crunch) for some energy. After drinking my Starbucks and eating my soup I felt much better. And like always to end my day I do around 2 hours of exercise to help with my weight loss project. So, so far everything is going great nothing to drastic of a change in my body. And today was a nice relaxing day because I did't have work, making it a great day to start an extreme diet...... (stay tuned for day 2)
Great news I am down to 216 pounds! I have been dropping weight like crazy and this diet is getting harder and harder as the days go by. Days 2 and 3 were great I woke up excited and ready to eat my soup and continue start my day. But when day 4 rolled around it has had it's ups and downs. Day for was horrible I was so angry and moody, I wanted to eat something besides stupid pea soup! I had no energy at all, and when I say no energy I mean go up the stairs in my house(only 13) and I felt like I haven't slept in days. And I slept about 14 hours in total which includes nighttime and naps during the day. Day 5 I slept VERY hard and when I woke up an I was feeling great. So i decided to go to the gym and do my usual work out, (2 hours on the treadmill at 3.6 speed and 1.0 incline, and 2 hours of weights and weight machines)but driving back home was very strange all of the sudden i started to stiffen up. The gym is about 20 from my house and by the time I go to my house I could barely get out of the car. The pain that I was experiencing was unbearable! At some times I just sat and cried because any type of movement was horrible. At first I thought it may be from working out to hard but I do this same workout 3-4 times a week. I did some research and it is because my body is not getting enough protein to with-stand the amount of activity and movement that my body is going through. Meaning as you tear tissues when you work out your body uses some protein to repair the tears but because there is a low amount of protein in my body this horrible pain lasted until today (day 6) without let-up. But because I am losing weight I will continue my 2 week pea soup diet, and let me be completely honest this diet is not ideal for someone that has to do a lot of physical activity. Meaning sales associates, teachers, doctors, pretty much anyone that will be on their feet I do not recommend this diet for you unless you are able eat more soup when ever you may start to feel faint.
Finally i can eat normally again! But don't get me wrong it was the best thing I had ever decided to do. I am now at an even 200 pounds which is great! But the process of getting there was crazy after the first week of always feeling faint, the second week proceeded in the faint feeling but also added the over emotional feelings, I'm talking about crying hysterically over the smallest things, I cried because I couldn't put my makeup on evenly. I cried because I got caught by the traffic light. It was the worst thing ever and it was very imbarising. Then there was the other side of feeling super angry if i wasn't about to burst into tears. I was angry because my eraser was not erasing everything that I wrote, and because I couldn't get my watch on without any help. I was just a complete mess and working out at the gym was an EPIC FAIL! I could barely lift the 5 pound weight or walk on the treadmill for more then 25 minuets. The only way that i was able to work out was at home doing workout DVDs this way I could take 25 minuet breaks between every single move I make. All in all I am very happy I have lost weight but this was such an extreme way of doing so but still it was an interesting ride and I am sure I will do another extreme diet.

Thank you satice_i for feeling how i was feeling because may times i thought to my self is this even worth it? And just like my mother she kept telling me that what i was doing wasn't healthy and im shure the way i was feeling thought the whole 2 week diet was not right either. And for some reason for me it seems like no matter wht i do i can't lose weight without doing some crazy insane diet so yeah i think a trip to a nutritionist is in the near future

Your cup of Pea soup at the top of this hub looks wonderful however I went through a range of emotions along with you as I read your words. Man! You really went through it. I don't do diets because I love food too much, but you might have fared better to add protein to your diet with the risk of losing the weight a little bit slower. I am glad you completed your experience but be safe and check with a nutritionist before doing any diet. It will only aid you in your goal of weight loss. Thanks for sharing your experience. Voted you up and awesome. You put yourself out there in the raw and that was a brave thing to do. Blessings!
