Look Younger Live Longer
Researchers the world over are desperately trying for an anti-aging formula so as to increase the longevity of human beings or at least to slow down the aging process.
What is aging?
Have you ever seen an iron rod, iron gate or grill without enamel paint - subjected to the sun, air, and rain? It gets rusted over a period of time. In scientific language this process of rusting due to normal or bad weather conditions is called oxidation process and quantum of rusting depends upon the time factor and weather conditions - the iron articles are subjected to. Longer the time and tougher the weather conditions - more the rusting - decreasing the life span of Iron articles. How do we save our iron gates, grills from rusting? Obviously by first removing dust from these articles and coating it with a layer of Red Oxide. Thereafter we apply enamel paint on these articles to save it from rusting that is oxidation to increase their longevity.
Similarly is the human body. The human body also gets oxidized and this oxidation process of the body is called aging. How can we stop or slow down this oxidation or so-called aging process? It is very difficult to stop this process. However, it can be slow down the aging process. As in case of oxidation of iron articles we needed red oxide and enamel paint -we require strong immunity and antioxidants to boost the immunity. To achieve our goal we as parents resort to immunizing our children to protect them from viruses, diseases. Intelligent mothers breastfeed their babies to build up a strong immunity to fight against infections, viruses, and diseases. Mother's breast milk works in the same way as red oxide layer works on the iron articles. Now comes the role of the time factor and weather conditions. Normal wear and tear are obvious with the passing time but we can protect the body from adverse weather condition by taking umbrella:). Level of the pollution in the air, water, cereals, fruits and vegetables, drug abuse, smoking, drinking, unhygienic living - all taken together or singly have the potential to accelerate the oxidation or as we call it as the aging process of the body. Building a strong layer of immunity is one aspect and boosting immunity is another task.
How can we boost our Immunity:
As iron articles required enamel paint to increase the life span - similarly the human body also needs antioxidants to revive, build up and boost immunity or bodily resistance to fight infections, viruses and diseases and in turn to increase the longevity of human life or you may call it slow down the aging process. I will be discussing the availability of major antioxidants (in plenty) in dietary foods in my Hubs at HubPages. The main antioxidants are Vitamin C, Folic Acid, Zinc, Selenium, Vitamin B, Vitamin E, Beta Carotene and above breathing in pure air/oxygen to increase the oxygen level in the body. While discussing the availability of Immunity Boosters we will also be discussing the daily recommended quantity of antioxidants as higher doses are sometimes as harmful as deficiency of these antioxidants.
Now in metro cities craze of Oxygen Chambers is gaining momentum where one can have pure oxygen to rejuvenate and fine tune the body by taking rid of toxin gases inhaled during normal work up. 10 to 15 minutes once or twice a week can make you look younger and live longer as the oxygen is the basic lifeline of the human body. Today we are inhaling poisonous fumes from Inverter Batteries emitting Lead Fumes which are carcinogenic and during the winter season we inhale poisonous gasses like Carbon Mono oxide, which is also emitted by the polluting vehicles and can be fatal. I am sure that in addition to saloons, Spa Centers - the new clinics known as Oxygen Chambers will be in great demand at urban centers when the physicians will be prescribing at least one or two sessions of pollution-free breathing inside the oxygen chambers to slow down the aging and wrinkle process which is set in motion by the toxin substances especially emissions.

Lovely hub! These are the kinds of write-ups I love to read early in the morning with my cup of tea - green tea, of course! Green tea, too, is full of anti-oxidants, which can do your body wonders by reversing free radical damage. Unfortunately, in the world we live in today, it is almost impossible to avoid free radical damage - the air is polluted, our oceans are polluted, and possibly radioactive post-Fukushima, our food is full of pesticides and increasingly being genetically modified, etc. The least we can do is to lead a healthy lifestyle and hope for the best!

Thabks Nellieanna for voting up the Hub and its author.

I came here to thank you for writing in my personal website's guestbook. What a valuable hub I found awaiting here! Bookmarking it! I especially like the way you compared the aging process to oxidation (rusting) of metals! Very appropriate! This would be a great article for young folks who seem to have so little awareness of their bodies' needs and frailties! A healthy immune system is vital!
I can speak from considerable experience. I'm 81 & very active, both mentally & physically. I take no prescription medicines; only rarely use any over-the-counter ones, such as aspirin or ibuprofen. I see the doctor for annual check-ups, but rarely for anything more.
I am a strong proponent of boosting anti-aging with healthy choices of as much natural-organic food as available, plus other common-sense choices and practices, such as avoiding over-exposure to pollutants & sun, bad food choices and poor health habits. Avoiding smoking and moderate, if any, alcohol use help, too.
I strongly favor eating ample raw fruit & veggies, especially green leafy and naturally bright colored ones. Fresh real food is preferable to processed pills, in my humble opinion. Citrus is a must daily, since its vitamin C is volatile. I drink a cup of "lemonade" - lemon squeezed in warm water - every morning & have orange or grapefruit in my morning fruit bowl. I use fresh tomatoes in my daily fresh veggie salads.
I didn't know about Gooseberry being such a good source, but that's not a fresh berry one sees in the grocery stores here. What a shame!
There are many healthy herbs and spices, too. Garlic is good. Tumeric is, too. I love fresh ginger root, which is available in our grocery stores though Fresh ginseng is not.

Broccoli has the highest concentration of vitamin C of any other fruit or vegetable. It is classified as a super food. Everyone should eat a handful of raw broccoli a day. It is soooooo nutrient rich.

Yes Vitamin C is a very good antioxidant. It is found in Citrus fruits like Orange, Lemon and Amla in Hindi. Amla is known as Gooseberry (phyllanthus emlica) in English and its botanical name is Emblica Officinalisis . It is the richest known source of Vitamin C.

Is Vitamin C an antioxidant. I am taking chew able one tablet of Vitamin C. Is it harmless to take as long as you want.
