Almost all celeb magazines at one point put the spotlight on the Master Cleanse diet that the stars use. The main reason is that this works as a way to really cleanse your system. As a matter of fact, you may have heard that celebrities like Jared Leto and Beyonce have at one point or another used this diet just before important parties and just before a big movie role. If you are not quite familiar with this weight loss method, here are the basics.

History of the Master Cleanse

This method of dieting was developed in 1940 initially by medicine and alternative health practitioner Stanley Burroughs as an ulcer cure. Three decades later, Burroughs had a book published that described the liquid diet benefits of the combination of cayenne pepper, lemon and maple syrup. Not only did this help shed excess fat in just a few weeks, it also worked as a way of cleansing the body and cured ulcers in the stomach.

Peter Glickman in 2004 compiled information on the book of Burroughs using a new manual that was easy to read. The title of the book was Lose Weight, Have More Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days. The book of Glickman was far more organized and updated than the manual that Burroughs originally wrote. This caused popularity in the method once more.

Lemon Master Cleanse

You can use the combination of cayenne, lemon and maple syrup as a regular drink you can supplement your meals with. You can also use it as a way to do a Detox with Master Cleanse. Specifically, the Lemon Master Cleansing technique will require you to drink liquids specifically for ten consecutive days. Next, after toxins had been shed by your body, you can add in food. When it comes to the lemon master cleanse, there are three components to keep in mind.

The first component is something you need to do first thing in the morning. When you start doing the Master Cleanse, the first part is called the Salt Water Flush. You need to drink a full quart of lukewarm water with two teaspoons of salt that is not iodized. Theoretically, your system gets flushed out and your bowels stimulated when you drink the salt water first thing in the morning. This will only work if you drink it on an empty stomach, however.

The second component is the Lemon Drink. You will need to drink a combination of cayenne pepper; lemon juice and maple syrup to get your metabolism jump started and give you sufficient carbohydrates and calories for your daily activities. Cayenne pepper is a booster for your metabolism and you get energy from the natural, unprocessed sugar in maple syrup. Since there are so much antioxidants in lemon, your system’s toxins get all flushed out. Take this drink between six and twelve times a day for ten days. Use peppermint tea to help with the nausea that you feel when your body releases toxic excretions.

Recipe for the Lemon Master Cleanse

In a container, combine eight ounces of spring or purified water. Add in a tenth of a teaspoon of powdered cayenne pepper. Add in two tablespoons of Grade B maple syrup. Do not use syrups with artificial flavor at any cost. Next, squeeze in two tablespoon lemon juice from a lemon. Drink this daily for ten days around brunch or lunch time.

If you don’t have maple syrup grade B available, you can use agave nectar or molasses. Since agave nectar and molasses have a glycemic low index, these are perfect options for individuals suffering from diabetes. Of course, being able to stick to the original diet version is ideal. So as much as you can, try to stick to the original recipe. This way, you get optimal results.

Aunt Jemima maple syrup as well as other types of maple syrup you might find in the supermarket are not good substitutes for the one called for in this recipe. Artificial syrups have artificial preservatives and flavors and are full of high fructose corn syrup, which will work against your diet goals.

The Ten Day Rule

The Lemon Master Cleanse has traditionally been meant to be followed strictly for ten days. You can begin to reintroduce food after ten days. Things to Keep in Mind

I have done this cleanse a few times with friends, and it really works. After the first three days, it becomes a breeze and some do not even want to stop after ten days. When you're ready to eat again, you have the control to choose what foods to eat and what to avoid. Thanks for sharing.
