Can a Body Wrap Give You Lasting Results?

If you haven't yet been invited to an all girls "wrap" party, chances are you will be soon. Created seven years ago and rec released as an investment opportunity, these body wraps are gaining popularity among women of all age groups as a miracle weight loss solution. Investors purchase bulk amounts of these wraps for parties and private sales. When these investors gain "Loyal Customers" (repeat buyers) they are given bonuses and incentives.

These wraps are designed to treat designated parts of the body such as neck, chin, tummy, arms, and thighs. When the wrap is applied to a specific part and left on for a minimum of 45 minutes (many people sleep in the wrap), dramatic weight loss and detoxification occurs. Many users claim to loose up to four inches from their waists in an over night session. Greater results can be achieved by constant use.

Maintaining this toned appearance is only possible by continued use of these wraps which cost $25.00 and up each to non-distributors. The defining gel is sold separately for $79.00 for 6 ounces of product.

While these temporary effects can be pleasant, they do not last without constant application of at a very high price. These wraps do not provide long lasting weight loss or benefits. While there is little information on this product regarding complaints, side effects, and problems- it would be more beneficial for consumers to use their hard earned dollars on items that offer real health benefits such as gym memberships and professional spa treatments.

Published Ingredient List:

The company has published its list of ingredients infused in their body wraps leading to its credibility. The full list of herbs includes:

  • Aesculus hippocastanum(Horse Chestnut)
  • Seed Extract Centella asiatica (Hydrocotyl)
  • Camellia sinensis (Green Tea)
  • Fucus vesiculosus (Bladderwrack)
  • Thalle Extract Hedera helix (Ivy)
  • Equisetum arvense (Horsetail)
  • Leaf/Stem Extract Ruscus aculeatus (Butchers Broom)
  • Root Extract Paullinia cupana (Guarana)
  • Seed Extract Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba)
  • Seed Oil Rosmarinus officinalis(Rosemary)
  • Eucalyptus globulus (Eucalyptus)

Should You Invest in Body Wraps?

Body Wrap companies became highly popular in 2001 and have a solid business foundation in consumerism. The company offers distributor rates to individuals who then sell them at body wrap parties and to established customers. The sales plan for this product guarantees both immediate and residual earnings by enrolling loyal customers and team distributors. The video below explains the earning potential of selling these products. Discounts are only given to those who buy products consistently.

The target audience of this product are the same men and women who seek botox treatments and those who would rather spend money on shape wear rather than enrolling in a gym. This product has found a large customer base in Americans who wish to look better without hard work and want instant gratification and take pride in this fact.

Many people have become distributors of this product due to the low start up cost for the first kit. Distributors find these body wraps sell themselves to those who want an instant fix to their appearances. As the science of this pad becomes well known and popular, investors will need to be wary of other companies copying the idea and selling these wraps at a more reasonable price.

Natural Alternatives to Expensive Wraps

Consumers wanting a relaxing method of detoxification can purchase a large container of Epsom Salt from a local pharmacy or Walmart for just a few dollars. By adding 2 cups to a warm bath, consumers can experience detoxification, exfoliation, absorption of necessary magnesium, extra volume in their hair, relief from sore muscles, a miracle facial scrub, and a natural sedative for frazzled nerves.

Those who wish to detoxify and tighten their skin at home can also make a Seaweed or Clay Body Wrap for less than $15.00 (you can also purchase edible seaweed which can be boiled until it is flexible). Start by exfoliating your skin with a brush or in the shower with body scrub. It is recommended users soak in hot water for 15 minutes before treatment so pours are open for cleansing. Apply the Seaweed or Clay to your body in a tub for 20 minutes. Rinse and moisturize. Results will be similar to using a body wrap at a fraction of the expense.

I will have to try that epsom salt bath to detoxify. I guess there is no easy way to lose inches. That healthy diet and exercise theory always seems to be the winner. Great hub!

Sharon Neal on August 15, 2012:

As someone that uses the wraps, I love them. I have lost alot with them and the diet suppliments. With everything, staying on a plan is a must. If I exersized it would just make my results better. Either way, I'm happy.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on June 30, 2012:

Thanks for sharing your experience Thelma. It is nice to hear the perspective of someone with direct experience using these wraps. LOL.. I bet it was interesting applying these. Glad to hear there are some real benefits to using these.

Thelma Alberts from Germany on June 30, 2012:

Body Wraps work but you have to do it more often. (It was Genesis Body Wraps that we were using in the spa.) Besides that, you have to maintain healthy habits of eating. Like low calories food such as vegies and fruits. I have not applied body wraps to myself but to the clients in a spa where I was working before. I did the wrapping. The funny thing was, I also lost weight due to my sweating in wrapping my clients especially when they are bigger than me. Voted up and SHARED.

Nell Rose from England on June 09, 2012:

Hi tammy, I'll go for the Epsom Salts! lol! I did wonder when I started to read whether it would work or not, then I realised what you said and thought, of course, anything for a quick result that doesn't really work. As you say, going to the gym or dieting is a sure fire way of losing weight, but I may just try the natural methods too! lol! I have a fat middle, its not that bad but its driving me insane! I know its only half a stone in weight extra, but believe me I hate it! lol! great info, and voted up! thanks for sharing! nell

Thanks for reading and commenting RealHousewife. These salts are wonderful for the bath. They take away body pain and sore muscles. They are definatley worth the price of $3.99. :)

Everyone likes to be pampered every now and then. On that basis alone it sounds like a lucrative business, investment.

People have been wrapping themselves in all sorts of things for years. If it makes you happy, whats the harm?

When 'It Works', make outlandish claims then it sounds like a scam. But if the idea is to just get together with friends and get wrapped up for fun. Why not?

Voted up interesting and useful.

Kelly Umphenour from St. Louis, MO on June 08, 2012:

Oh so the old folks taking baths in Epson salts may not be just a wives tail? Hmmm never thought about these wraps before. I'll have to investigate it a little more!

Way interesting, up and everything!

Thanks for your visit alocsin. People in my opinion pay too much for a temporary fix, but it is a lucrative business opportunity. Good to see you!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on June 07, 2012:

Thanks for readin Christy. People are reporting making serious money on these body wraps. Consumers are willing to pay big money and the distributors are getting the profits. Thanks for dropping by.

Aurelio Locsin from Orange County, CA on June 07, 2012:

I think all the scientific studies prove these don't work at losing weight. But if they make you feel good, you're home versions are a moneysaver. Voting this Up and Useful.

Christy Birmingham from British Columbia, Canada on June 06, 2012:

Wow, according to the sales figures you outline, there is a lot of money being made on these wraps. I had heard of them but I sure learned a lot from your hub!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on June 06, 2012:

Hi Alastar. I can't find out exactly how the company claims that the product makes a person loose weight. Things like seaweed pull excess water out of people's skin. There may be some thermodynamic activity going on that may create the results. Either way it isn't real weight or fat loss. It is some temporary cell shrinkage. A person could spend a fortunte maintaining these wraps. Thanks so much for sharing your insight here.

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on June 06, 2012:

It is a sad fact kelleyward. Thanks so much for reading and commenting.

Thanks for reading my_girl_sara. I appreciate the read.

Alastar Packer from North Carolina on June 06, 2012:

Tammy, this is good coverage on 'It Works.' Not too sure about it really working though. Seems i saw an expose on those Detox Foot Pads once and the conclusion was a total scam with them. The body wrap has an impressive list of ingredients but still, do they truly pull toxins out of the body and reduce fat cells? Seems i've heard that one before somewhere. Don't mean to spoil anyone's fun or success with the stuff but like your less expensive alternatives better.

kelleyward on June 06, 2012:

Wow I'm amazed at the lengths people will go to try to get healthy the quick and easy way, which isn't usually health or possible. Thanks for sharing this Tammy I learned something new here! Take care, Kelley

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on June 06, 2012:

Good to see you fpherj48. I think a party would be fun just to try these and it would be nice to use one before a special event, but it doesn't pay in the long run.

I love an epsom salt bath and special sea salts but I guess these will get harder to buy now. I have never had any zombie type effects that I know of. But, I don't eat and drink them. LOL.

Thanks so much for stopping by and with your thoughtful, as always, comment. I appreciate your visit.

Cynthia Lyerly from Georgia on June 06, 2012:

I am definitely going to look into this! Thanks!!

Tammy (author) from North Carolina on June 06, 2012:

Thanks for commenting Lord de Cross. People are using these wraps as a substitute for healthy eating and getting exercise. That is what is scary about them. I can see using one before before going to the beach to tone up, but not as your only regiment for health. I appreciate your visit!

Suzie from Carson City on June 06, 2012:

Tammy....Thank you for this interesting and informative hub. I was not aware of these "body wraps" and/or the business opportunity. I do not doubt they have been gaining in popularity.....women (especially) are always willing to "try" anything and everything. and this is a good thing, in terms of self-improvement & care and maintenence. We need to care how we feel and look.

I would probably love to attend a party just for fun and to see the products closely... But, due to the high cost of continued use, it's not something I'd invest in on a regular basis. I have not ever been able to justify a high expense for anything "temporary."

Now, on the other hand, the alternative products and methods are a much more attractive lure. I've used Epsom salts for comfort soaks quite often....and thank you for listing the other uses!! Great information!

Happy Wrapping, Tammy!! Up and awesome.

Seems that some natural medicine pros saw a potential in this idea. Your research is trully admired my friend. Your options are down to earth, and we believe it can make wonders. Seen alarming cases of overweight issues and food chains are not really working on balanced diet menues unless you ask. Hope people get the warnings and take heed. Great article Tammy!
