Is veganism really such a healthy choice?
Reasons for choosing to become a vegan may be down to ethical concerns over the exploitation and cruelty to animals, environmental issues, or personal taste, but is it really a healthy choice?
I believe that Vegetarian diets are healthy, but they lack certain nutrients. As people, we need enough protein, calcium, iron, vitamin B12, and various other vitamins and minerals. You can find many of these nutrients in dairy if you're vegetarian, and from plant sources, if you're vegan. But you may need an added boost. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in both fish and flaxseeds, but your body doesn't absorb the plant-based form as readily as the omega-3s from seafood. Having fruits, vegetables, whole grains but limiting foods high in saturated fat, such as whole milk, and ice cream can help vegans in maintaining their proper diet. "People who are trying to lose weight can certainly do it on a vegetarian diet, but they have to limit portions," McManus says.
However, “Blue Zones” is a term used to describe geographic regions in the world which have been identified as having populations with low rates of chronic diseases and one thing these communities have in common is a so-called ‘plant slant’ meaning they rarely eat meat and instead plant foods such as legumes, grains, vegetables, and nuts form the cornerstone of their diet. This suggests that vegan food doesn’t lack many nutrients and is an immunity booster as well,
shifting to a “greener” diet isn’t a tough nut to crack, it surely is a healthy choice from a diverse range of plants and legumes, surely meat consumption is a source of high protein and is considered a good meal after all
So, The bottom line is that a vegan diet can be healthy and it resonates from person to person. It’s important to consider your personal state of affairs and decide whether this diet is suitable or not. People do say that vegetarian food is so boring, well it isn’t necessary as there are a lot of diverse cuisines to choose from and to keep one’s choice different, without poultry, seafood, and others for some time, many trivial vegetarian dishes need to be normalized.
