Harvesting Our Medicines
I smoke marijuana every day for it's wonderful medicinal properties. Smoking pot helps alleviate my symptoms of Fibromyalgia and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). This amazing plant also relieves my symptoms of stress and anxiety, eliminating the need for prescription pharmaceuticals.
I have found, through personal experience, that it is almost impossible to abuse marijuana. Overindulgence at it's worst, may cause one to eat a whole bag of cookies or perhaps a quart of ice cream, hardly events that would have one considering detoxification and rehabilitation.
I know, because I am a prime candidate to do more more more of anything that feels good.
I am an alcoholic/addict. I chose sobriety in 1991.
I white knuckled my way through my new found sobriety until about 1996.
I managed stay clean and sober but my quality of life was very stilted, linear and extremely stressful.
Regulations around packaging and potency of THC products in the legal arena, need to be reviewed and changed if the government wants to become a leading player in the retail market.
So far, in my opinion, the underground market is still taking a big chunk of the business due to superior products and product strength.
Finding the Right Medicine
I went to stay with one of my aunts for a few months a couple of years into my sobriety. I often went to her for support when I was having difficult times. I was tired, emotionally ragged, spiritually worn out and physically exhausted when I arrived. She welcomed me with open arms, fed me, loved me and smoked pot with me every day. I wasn't familiar with the effects of marijuana as it was never my drug of choice when I was in active addiction.
What Do You Say?
Kind and Gentle
During those three months I began noticing many gradual and positive changes in my life. I woke up feeling peaceful, hopeful, hungry for food and eager to experience the day.
I understand these changes could be attributed to the loving energy from my relative, the warmth and security of her welcoming heart and home. I credit her for my return to peace and harmony.
I also credit the inclusion of marijuana into my daily life. Marijuana use greatly enhanced my day to day experience. I felt relaxed and calm and as a result, more able to approach my life in a logical and productive manner.
If marijuana use is considered an addiction, it is the kindest and gentlest and most helpful addiction known to humans, in my opinion.
Marijuana = Appetite = Feeding your brain and body = Happy!
Justin Trudeau, our current Canadian Prime Minister, legalized marijuana October 17th 2018.
I had high hopes, if you will pardon the pun, for positive change legalization of marijuana could bring.
Marijuana has many rules and regulations pertaining to it's legalized use. one peeve, products are way over packaged to the point of ridiculousness. I hope to see changes made over time once marijuana use becomes more mainstream and proves to be mostly harmless to those that use it for recreational and/or medicinal reasons.
There is plenty of anecdotal evidence available that suggests marijuana eases the symptoms of many chronic conditions and diseases. I read articles on a daily basis about marijuana easing symptoms of, and even curing cancers in some people.
It is important to nourish our bodies during times of illness, to allow our immune systems to fight off the virus/germ etc. It is not uncommon for those not feeling well to have no desire for food. Smoking pot and/or ingesting THC edibles helps to increase one's appetite to get the nutrients required.
Visual Differences in Leaves
Indica Strains of Marijuana
As well as Fibromyalgia and anxiety issues, I have osteoarthrits, bursitis, fractured vertabrae in my back. I also experience ear and headaches. I smoke the Indica strains to find relief with the symptoms. My personal favorite is Purple Kush.
Some of the effects of the Indica strains;
1. Body Pain Relief and Recovery
2. Reduction in Stress and Anxiety
3. Deep Relaxation, Sleep
Popular Indica Strains: Granddaddy Purp, OG Kush, Nothern Lights, Afghani, and Purple Urkel
Sativa Strains of Marijuana
I have been plagued with depression throughout my life. Smoking Sativa strains of marijuana elevate my mood and my elevated mood allows me to participate in life in a more effective and productive way, socially and professionally.
Some of the effects of Sativa strains;
1. Uplifting and Cerebral thoughts
2. Stimulation and Energy
3. Increased focus and Creativity
Blended Hybrid Marijuana Strains
Sativa Dominant Hybrids
Hybrids, sativa dominant, provide a cerebral high with a relaxing body effect.
Useful for physical and mental relief.
50% Sativa, 50% Indica even hybrids are for people seeking a perfect balance of head and body.
Indica Dominant Hybrids
Indica heavy hybrid strains provide a full-body pain relief, with a relaxing head high. Recommended for nighttime use to go to sleep, or daytime relief from minor pain.
There are as many individualised strains of marijuana as there are people to grow them,
This is why, in my opinion, it will be difficult for government grown pot to meet individual needs for medicinal purposes. Also, how are physicians going to be able to prescribe marijuana when they have had little or no understanding of the miracle medicine that is marijuana?

Pot Butter and Other Marijuana Edibles
To smoke or not to smoke. This is a personal choice that may be influenced by perception and societal pressures.
If you are currently using prescribed pharmaceuticals for a medical condition, anxiety, depression etc., consider researching marijuana as medication instead for your particular condition.
Prescription medications can be really hard on your body, causing among other things, constipation, confusion and addiction.
Take the time to educate yourself on the properties of marijuana including THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol) These are two of the primary compounds in marijuana. Research how using extracts, tinctures and edibles may help alleviate the symptoms of your particular malady. Chances are they will be much kinder and gentler on your mind and body than the present medications you are taking. CBD is a derivative of the marijuana plant that has all the healing benefits for many conditions and no psychoactive properties. Explaining what CBD is deserves an article of it's own. I have barely touched on it here.
Marijuana does not have to be smoked. A pound of butter and an ounce of pot, 24 -48 hours in a crock pot on low, and you have some potent marijuana butter to use in cookie, brownie and other delicious recipes.
A delicious pot brownie is a pretty fine prescription if you ask me.
There are also recipes for pot gummies, chocolates, hard candies, extracts, distillates and more. They are all relatively simple to make. If you are not inclined to make your own there are many reliable sources to purchase them in most communities. Gummies etcetera are not legally available in legal dispensaries since marijuana legalization October 17, 2018, but there are many reliable sources to purchase them from if you inquire around your community.
CBD oil is also a great medicine for our pets. My friend has an 18 year old Yorkshire Terrier that appeared to be given a new lease on life after her owner started dosing her with a researched amount of CBD oil every day. I witnessed the vast improvement over time. My friend's pooch went from sleeping 22 out of 24 hours to greeting me at the door when I would drop in to visit and generally showing renewed interest in life. CBD is not a miracle drug, the dog will eventually succumb to old age, but in the meanwhile her quality of life has been greatly improved.

Many people confuse marijuana and hemp. They are related, but hemp is used increasingly as a source for fabric, weed control and nutritious seeds for food. Marijuana on the other hand is grown, usually by criminals, for its psychoactive effects. It a

I have not included a bunch of scientific data to back up my beliefs.
I formed my own opinions and beliefs from anecdotal stories, googling marijuana, and my own personal experiences using marijuana for medicinal purposes.
There is a wealth of information about marijuana pros and cons online. Google marijuana and you will get millions of links to follow for information about pot to help you make an educated decision on whether you would consider using it for medicinal purposes.
- Marijuana reduces the chronic aches and pains I experience on a daily basis due to osteoarthritis, bursitis, fractured disks and headaches.
- Marijuana helps me to relax and fall asleep at night.
- Marijuana enhances my appetite and desire to cook healthy meals.
- Marijuana helps reduce stress and anxiety I feel in certain situations.
I am an all round advocate for incorporating marijuana as a valid drug with many and varied medicinal uses.
It is also my opinion that marijuana is a good choice for recreational purposes.
It is my observation that most people that smoke pot get happy and mellow and often have an avid interest in food when they toke.
The effects of marijuana also help to unleash creativity. I have creative friends that enhance their ability to paint, draw, bake, cook, build, by ingesting or smoking marijuana.
I do not know of one single incident where someone used marijuana and punched someone, hit someone with their vehicle, crashed their vehicle or resorted to stealing to feed their habit.
There is just no evidence to substantiate any claims that marijuana is a harmful substance.
I do not advocate marijuana use in teens or young adults. I have read studies that suggest marijuana can be harmful to the developing brain.
Although I do not agree with recreational marijuana use in youngsters and teenagers, I do believe there are many prescribed uses for it as a medicine for children and youth. I personally believe marijuana therapy is infinitely safer than chemical based pharmaceuticals, including the use of antidepressants and drugs to manage Attention Deficit Disorder, and other issues some physicians seem to feel plague our children.
If I had to choose between chemical intervention and marijuana therapy for certain conditions, I would choose marijuana, hands down, even for youth.
Marijuana, in my opinion, is one of the least toxic substances we have available to us for medicinal purposes.
I call it Nature's Prozac.
Licence to Produce Personal Pot
My partner obtained a licence through Health Canada to grow his own medicine. He also had a prescription from his doctor to use it as medication for his health issues.
In April of 2014 Canadian government had planned to revoke the personal legal right to grow prescribed amounts of Marijuana by individuals, in favor of government produced, packaged and sold product. In late March of this year,2014, some individuals obtained a court injunction to allow them to continue to grow their own medicines. They were concerned about the quality of marijuana they may be forced to use if they had to halt growing their own. Most strains of marijuana have been carefully cultivated over years to perfect the effects on certain conditions and diseases.
Most strains of marijuana used by persons for medicinal purposes have been tweaked and perfected through trial and error by the user to come up with the strain that addresses their own personal issues most effectively.
Mass production of the herb may not be as successful in targeting certain conditions with certain strains.
All Walks of Life
There is no way to tell who is a pot smoker and who is not.
Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor, teacher, mountie, the granny next door.
In my observation, marijuana use is becoming much more prevalent as more and more people are educating themselves and becoming aware of the healing properties of the plant.
Marijuana, in my experience, is much kinder and gentler to the mind body and soul than any prescription drug.
Not one single death has ever been pinned on a marijuana overdose.
So light up, put on some comfy shoes and take your dog for a walk in Nature.
Light up and make it a great day!

Thank you Lastheart for your comments on my hub. I have friends that have had similar experience to you when around the smell of marijuana. As with many substances/medicines on the planet, there is nothing that works for everyone. I think one of the reasons I continue to use it is because it is the kindest and gentlest way I have found to keep the addict in me at peace. By far, way less destructive than the substances I ingested earlier in my life. And it gives me desire to eat, aids my sleep..To me Marijuana is Nature's Prozac.

I love your genuineness. I don't know what kind of marijuana you have around, but the two times in my life that I had been close, the smell gave me a bad headache and it provoked vomit.
Very interesting article. Keep smooth and happy. Nature is awesome!

Hi Jodah, I first published this and miscategorised it under health article and could not figure out how to get rid of the template. The hub was not featured once I published it so to fix my boo boo I cut and pasted into a new article under the simpler format and deleted the original. It is now featured.
