Living in this modern and fast-changing world poses, many challenges to several people. A chaotic environment, a stressful work, and a busy life, lead more and more people to live empty and meaningless lives. Enduring in this type of society is almost unbearable to some. Nevertheless, despite these odds. there are helpful ways to take to alleviate our current situation. The following are a few useful steps you can apply to alleviate this kind of situation.

Cultivate a positive outlook in life.

People who are positive have a greater advantage over others who are not. They approach life happier, lighter, and friendlier. Staying positive in life and its circumstances has a lot of benefits to offer. Dwell on what you can do rather than on what you cannot do or something that is beyond remedy. Focus on your strengths rather than your limitations. Research reveals that being positive "promotes healthier behaviors among individuals. In addition to promoting healthier behaviors, there are other potential explanations for the associations of optimism to longer life span" the study continues,

Do something for others.

If you want to find joy-real joy, do something for someone. Move out from yourself and do something to help others. We do not simply exist for ourselves. We are supposed to live, to bless others with our talents, time, resources, etc. Nature itself teaches us this important principle. Take for example the sun, it rises each morning to give its light. The trees, they exist to give you shade. The rivers, they continually flow to water the plants. Nature reminds us that, our loving Creator "gave us talents so we can help each other,"(1 Cor. 12:7, NLT). When you are able to do something for someone, it leaves you an amazing joy beyond description.

Enjoy your life.

Learn to find joy even in simple things. Find your delight starting in your own home. Take a walk. Search for it in your surroundings. Observe activities in your local area and find one little joy in them. If you can't find one, create one for yourself. Forget about the idea that because you can’t go abroad, you can’t enjoy life. No! There is always joy in anything if you take a moment to notice it. Never mule over the things you can’t afford and don’t have right now. If you do, life would be miserable for you. Live your life each day, as if it were your last day on earth. Enjoying life does not have to be expensive. It is not dependent on geographical location. Get away from boredom. You can break from boredom even right from your own home.

Learn to give.

Apostle Paul affirms, "It is more blessed to give than to receive," (Acts 20:35, NLT). When we speak of giving, people usually associate it with money. However, it doesn't have to be always like that. Giving can be done in various ways. For example, you can give of your time, talent, money, etc. you can give of yourself by offering your services to those who are in need. You can give of your time by visiting a sick person or listening to someone in need of a listening ear. You can share of your available resources within your reach. Giving, benefits both the recipient and the giver. For the giver, it leaves an impression that someone thinks and cares for him or her. And this gives that individual a sense of being loved. To the giver, it creates a positive emotion in the heart. It gives the giver satisfaction. It produces joy that cannot be found anywhere else but in the act of giving itself. This results to a feeling of happiness within one's heart that turns into a sense of fulfilment.

Nurture wholesome relationships.

Every relationship requires care, be it a family, or any other relationship. Building strong relationships take time and effort. Having family and friends are vital in your life. Cultivate these relationships. They are there to give you a lift when you are down. They offer support and comfort when you need some. They make your life worth living. If your relationships with your family, friends and relatives are dead, chances are, your life isn’t full. Healthy relationships add color to your life. They help you nurture self, as a human being. This adds meaning to your existence which results to a fuller life. Remember, “Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born,” quips Anais Nin.

Take your burdens to God.

God has created us with a wonderful plan for our future. He alone knows you from the inside out. He sees your worries. He understands your fears. Talk to Him privately in prayer.Take hold of His divine hand that has been guiding and caring for you all these years. Trust Him-His way, His care, His love, and His plan for you. Trusting God will save you from constant stresses, extra hassles, and niggling worries. The Scripture says, “Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.” (Matthew 6:25, NLT).

Use your time wisely.

“Time is money," declares Benjamin Franklin. This is a short adage that we often take for granted. It is so brief that we seem to ignore or notice it. But there is more to this three-word maxim than just being short. It reminds us of an important concept that we have somehow forgotten that time, means profit. It tells each one that using our time properly brings good returns. Develop hobbies that maximises your time physically, socially, mentally, or spiritually. Dwell on profitable leisure that enhances your skills rather than using your hours on things that leave you empty at the end of the day. Most importantly, spending your time wisely on a day-to-day basis, gives you a sense of satisfaction, making you a happy and fulfilled individual.

Welcome every opportunity for self-development.

You cannot afford to remain the same every year. Imagine if you were a mother and your little boy or girl will be a toddler forever. Think of the cans of milk you will have to spend for the rest of his or her life. Consider the sleepless nights you struggle to feed him or her. Reflect on the strength you will have to use up carrying your child for life. You simply cannot stay the same every year. You must advance. Read various wholesome books to add to your information bank. Discover your niche. Find the right books for you to help you grow. Most books that have been published to offer some help. Visit other places-explore. Do this regularly to groom yourself. Jesus, our Saviour set an example for us when the Gospel writer Luke describes, "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man"(KJV).

Zero in on Grudges.

Never take grudges to your home or to your bed at night. Lay them at your doorsteps as soon as you enter or leave your home. Don’t take them to your workplace, trip, or vacation. Grudges work like a rust. Once there, it will slowly eat you up and corrode your life. It takes away your happiness. It removes the luster or shine on your face making you ugly. Carrying grudges with you is like taking a 50-kilo baggage on your shoulder wherever you go. Hence, forgive people. An unforgiving spirit destroys your personality and makes you an unhappy person. Maya Angelou claims, "It's one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, to forgive. Forgive everybody."
