Drink and eat in moderation

What does it mean to eat and drink in moderation?

I eat and drink what my body craves and in this way, I feel good.

Is this a meaningless phrase?

People often say, ‘’Eat and drink in moderation, or moderation is key to eating and drinking.’’

I feel I am healthier by eating smaller meals and what my body craves.

Is this bad advice?

Does this phrase have a good meaning?

You can eat a variety of foods and still be eating incorrectly.

What is unhealthy and what is a proper meal?

If you are the one who wants to lose weight to feel fitter and healthier there is a lot of advice to look for online. Some say skip breakfast or a meal to lose weight.

Is that what you believe?

Everything in moderation means good advice for a few people. This type of advice doesn’t mean much to many people on a diet, or who have different effects on eating different foods.

You deprive yourself when eating in moderation. Any unhealthy food is unhealthy to you if eaten more than other foods. To have a healthy body you must have a balanced diet.

Any diet that works for you on a long-term basis shows you good results and need not be changed. However, most people do not stay on one diet for a long time.

If you have certain allergies to certain foods and are affected by conditions such as; Celiac, or an autoimmune disease, eating foods in moderation can have a negative effect on your diet. Some people are affected by eating dairy foods, or certain types of nuts which can cause many issues to the skin or overall in their health.

So, what does eating in moderation actually mean?

You try to not eat foods that trigger a rash on your skin.

Would you avoid certain foods, deprive yourself of these foods, or give up those foods?

All these thoughts go through your mind and yet you still eat whatever you want, and not what your body needs.

Eating healthy will give you an active day. When you choose to not eat certain foods you have sleepless nights, feel less energetic, and can have unexplained muscle pain.

Moderate eating tells you that your eating habits have changed and this you see in your health. I eat smaller meals and do not allow myself to feel extremely hungry before any meal.

Instead of depriving yourself of a snack or a meal, be watchful about what you eat. What you put in your body is what kind of results you get back. If you are eating unhealthy foods daily you will see a different you.

If you have the willpower you can moderate your eating habits. The foods that you can’t keep out of your diet can be eaten in moderation. Meaning you can eat unhealthy foods once in a while and focus on healthy foods daily.

Stress causes eating habits to increase.

The foods that allow your body to create an imbalance in metabolisms such as sugar and increased hunger can overrule willpower. Foods that make you crave are caused by you overeating them. These foods give you no willpower.

What does the concept of moderation tell you about eating?

Does it mean if you have a small piece of chocolate you shouldn’t have any chocolate for a week?

It is easy to drink up a glass of wine and look at that bottle until it is empty.

Would you call that moderation?

What you should do is have whatever you can in the time you have. You can set your goals, but fail to keep these goals.

Exercise more and everything you do in moderation is an example of an empty goal. You have all this will and desire but bend the interpretations to satisfy your needs and not what you want.

Rethink how you enjoy the less healthy foods and eat what is healthy for your body. Eating in moderation doesn’t work for everyone.

Eat a healthy meal and you won’t feel hungry in between your meals. Snacking time is not a good meal for you. I eat dense foods to balance out my blood sugar, this includes foods with fat and protein. Such foods can’t be overeaten.

I am satisfied and content with my eating habits.

It is not appropriate to eat in moderation. You eat a variety of foods and most of what you eat doesn’t provide your body with the best nutrients.

Eating dense foods like fruit and vegetables allows you to have a balanced diet. Find what makes you feel energetic and abide by that. Diets don’t work for everyone but healthy eating does work for you.

Your eating habits change and if you do not meet the goals of eating healthy foods you need to think about eating in moderation. Health and fitness or weight loss and weight gain is a problem for many individuals.

Moderate eating is not always a choice for you.

Indulge, it is normal to eat what you like. You eat in moderation and tend to overeat what you like.

Once in a while indulging is a pleasure that happens when you can afford it, or when you want to spoil yourself. It happens that you eat more of what you try to restrict yourself. This life is not fun or enjoyable.

This doesn’t go your way when you hide trigger foods in a secret place. Eating trigger foods when you are bored, eating when you are stressed, and when you eat for comfort to satisfy your cravings.

Eating trigger foods in moderation is a struggle. Sometimes you can eat more than you need to. If you are feeling out of control in eating it is best to speak to a professional about your eating habits.

People need help when they feel their eating habits are out of control and leading them to many health issues.

Everything is normal, but when you know it is hurting you, it is time to seek help.

No matter how many glasses of wine you have or alcoholic drinks that is up to you.

In moderation eating or drinking may not work for everyone.

You need the self-discipline to eat well and keep fit. Practice daily to maintain your eating habits. At an event or when people have a few glasses of wine, you may think one is enough.

By the end of the night, you won’t believe how many more you have already had.

The whole concept is to not allow you to deny yourself cravings.

Imagine you have friends over for a meal and you keep on at it, ‘’ You can’t have this or that.’’ Labelling foods as good or not good is misleading and has a negative effect on those who follow diets.

Have eaten peanuts till you reached the bottom of the packet and realized you haven’t been able to stop?

Have you been on a diet and promised yourself never to have any sweets or chocolates?

Do you have chocolate kept in a cupboard and promised to have a small piece each day, but couldn’t keep it that long, and ate it in a day?

You are an Abstainer if you have done two of the three in the above-mentioned questions.

If your answers are the opposite of that you are a moderator.

It means that eating in moderation works well for you. You either binge on healthy foods to eat in access or you can eat unhealthy in a day when eating in moderation. Overall, eat what you like and see what works best for you in a diet.

Are you an Abstainer or a Moderator?

Which one works for you?

Dense foods are healthy for you

I'm an all-or-nothing kind of person. If I am to be successful at something, I have to give it up completely, at least for a specific period of time.

Ravi Rajan from Mumbai on April 23, 2021:

I think eating and drinking in moderation is possible if you bundle the temptation with one good habit. This concept which I have been able to successfully apply so far is called "temptation bundling".

Let us say, you plan to jog 1 hour each day. Now bundle this useful habit with a temptation by saying "Ok, if I jog 1 hour a day for three 3 days, I will eat a sinful chocolate cake ".This way you force yourself to sustain a good habit by using your craving .It has worked well for me as far.

Thanks for sharing Devika.

Devika, Your article is very helpful and informative. You made some good points. I use to skip foods as at times I don’t feel hungry but late at night, I often go to the kitchen to get something to eat. I think it’s my bad habit.

Thanks for sharing

Eating healthy foods in moderation is a goal for many people. Some people do not have access to good wholesome foods for one reason or another. The pandemic has brought food insecurity to the forefront. I know that is slightly off-topic from your article, but I thought that it was worth mentioning.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on April 22, 2021:

"If you have the willpower you can moderate your eating habits." But often enough the willpower seems to take a vacation. Still, moderation is a good goal. Thanks for sharing your views on this topic.
