What Is Mouth Ulcer?

Mouth ulcers are usually painful white or yellow in color lesion, surrounded by red area. If you touch the white bump with your finger tip, it sore with pain that you will cringe.


These ulcers are usually formed on the gums, mouth or tongue. Sometimes, the ulcer lesion might spread rapidly, in average of 2 or more on different locations. Naturally, it is hard to swallow any form of food or beverages and talking are painful, sometimes excessive saliva keeps dripping from the mouth. In addition, bad breath will occur. Mouth ulcers do not cause much damages to the mouth itself as ulcers will heal on its own in 7 days or more.

Children and toddlers frequently encounter mouth ulcers because they don't drink enough water to hydrate their little bodies.Thus, the temperature rise which will cause ulcers popping up especially if they accidentally bite their own tongue and knock their gums against something hard when they fall down.

What causes Mouth Ulcers?

Bites

  • Accidentally biting own tongue or mouth.
  • Fish bones poke into the gum or side wall of the mouth.
  • It is best not to gobble up your food or talk while eating because accidents tend to occur.
  • It is wise to remove all tiny fish bones before consumption.
  • Fish bones accident usually happens when adults consume fish without biting the flesh thoroughly.
  • When fish bones poke onto the gum, it will bleed and the wound could not recover immediately.
  • Therefore, bacteria and gum infections occur especially when open wounds are not treated at once.

Iron

  • Lack of iron. When your blood streams are shortage of iron, the oxygen is reduced in the blood that your body organs especially mouth, tongue and gums to easily bruised when slightly hit or bitten.

Hormone changes

  • Hormone changes. This usually happens to young teens, ladies and middle age women who frequently develop mouth ulcers during their monthly menses

Poor Oral Hygiene.

You need to brush your teeth twice a day and use mouth wash everyday, preferably after every meal.


Lack Of Vitamins.

Vitamin B and C. Good sources of Vitamin B are potatoes, banana, lentils, tempeh, beans, Marmite and molasses. Vitamin C can be found in guava, papaya, orange, strawberry, kiwi, cantaloupe and grapefruit.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms of a mouth ulcer depends on the cause to initiate the wound on the gum or mouth.

  • Firstly, your body temperature will rise. Then, you could feel a burning sensation on your tongue, mouth or gum.
  • It stings even with your own saliva. Sometimes it is best to use cotton pads to stub onto the ulcer to ease the pain
  • one or two painful sores appears on the lining the mouth, it could be any part of the gums and the tongue, usually the sides or tip of it.
  • swollen reddish skin around the white lesion.
  • having problems with chewing or swallowing food and beverages.
  • difficulty in tooth brushing because of the red tenderness around the ulcer.
  • irritation or feeling painful, stinging sensation by salty, spicy or sour foods
  • loss of appetite, giving up on food due to the stinging pain.



Duration

Takes around 7 to 10 days.

Home Treatment And How To Avoid Ulcers

  1. Eat plenty of fruits with vitamin C especially blackcurrant, guava, orange, strawberry and papaya.
  2. Drink a bottle of yogurt daily.
  3. Gurgle and rinse mouth with 1tsp of salt water mix with 1 glass of warm water 3 times a day. Don't swallow it. Spit it out.
  4. Drink orange or tomato juice.
  5. Consume Vitamin C supplement.
  6. Eat raw tomatoes, 1piece-big ones or 5 pieces-small cherry tomatoes.
  7. Don't use any toothpaste with SODIUM LAUREL SULFATE.
  8. Change toothbrush because it may contain bacteria or plague.
  9. Avoid spicy food, fried food, carbonated or alcohol or hot drinks.
  10. Rub a pinch of salt on the ulcer until it bleeds. Be informed that it is extremely painful and might leave a scar.

Mouth ulcers can be very painful. Gargling with the salt water several times a day is good advice.

yeah, lack of sleep makes our body temp goes up and dry up our lips too. Prone to bacteria.

Very useful blog on mouth ulcers. They happen to everyone. I was told that they can happen because of any changes in body, if you have tummy upset, tensions and even drug reactions.

gunalah garam, gosok sampai berdarah. Walaupun sakit, lebih ceat sembuh. You can also use watermelon seed powder to bubuh on your ulcer. Can purchase at pharmacy.
