How Anxiety Affects Your Day to Day Life:

Your mental health is important. Learn how you can manage your anxiety and live your best life!

Anxiety can be overwhelming, controlling, and prevent us from living our lives as we should. There are days when you don’t want to get out of bed and days where you just want to be left alone. These are the days where we allow that anxiety to creep in and control us.

Anxiety is like a person. A person who hoovers next to you every day constantly telling you that you don't matter, or you're not good enough. It tells us things like “You shouldn't wear that shirt today.” with no reason what so ever. Many people, such as myself, experience mood alterations that come out of nowhere, which then causes us to shove those overbearing feelings and emotions on sometimes the very people we love. All because we allow anxiety to take us by the hair and do that.

“Oh, get over it.” Our families say. “It’s just the grocery store.” But it isn't just a grocery store for those of us who suffer from anxiety. To us it is a suffocating house on fire with no way to get out. Having anxiety isn't something you can drop whenever you want, you can’t flick it off like a bug. The people who don't have anxiety, don’t understand the pain and torture us who have it, have to go through daily. This can become frustrating and cause more anxiety.

Are there Ways to Cope?

There are diverse options that have reportedly been effective and improved anxiety, both natural and assisted. Down below, I have listed a few coping skills that I have developed and use every day.

1. Meditation

2. Breathing exercises

3. Journaling

4. Taking a walk

5. Reading

6. Listening to music

Seeing a therapist isn't a bad idea either. They can offer excellent support and teach you coping skills that work best for you. Coping with anxiety can be hard, and it frankly takes lots of practice. But that doesn't mean it’s impossible.

Can I really have an Enjoyable Life while Living with Anxiety?

Yes. Anyone who suffers from anxiety, whether it's general anxiety, social anxiety, etc…, can have a pleasurable life. Anxiety is only the disorder that you live with, it shouldn't be something that consumes and controls your every move.

There are medications that are prescribed to patients who have a diagnosed anxiety disorder(s). These are usually recommended by a primary doctor. It is all about what works for you and what doesn't. Not everything you try will work, and that's okay.

Ultimately, anxiety is nothing to be ashamed of. You can still have an enjoyable life with the help of your personal coping skills. Like I said, it's all about what works and what doesn't work for you. Living and dealing with anxiety is completely up to you.
