Memoona likes to read and write about skin care. She loves to share her best skin care practices with others to help them look beautiful.

Does skin care need to be expensive and complicated?

Certainly not. Skin care doesn't need to be heavy on our pocket. There are easy and cheap home remedies that can be part of our skin care routine and can help us sustain the glow and suppleness that we tend to loose with the passing age. The key is the consistency and right kind of products. The remedies may take time to show the results but once they start working they last longer than the instant results of the harsh chemicals found in most of the skin rejuvenating creams. Our kitchens mostly have all the products needed for skin care. We would be sharing some of our favorites.

Never too old to become younger

The first and foremost thing we need to follow is keeping our skin clean. two of my favorite cleansing liquids are "fresh cream " and "coconut oil".

Fresh Cream

Take a teaspoon of fresh cream and mix it with few drops of lemon juice and massage all our your face for 4-5 minutes. Now use a cotton pad slightly dipped in the rose water to remove the mixture completely. Fresh cream has fats, lactic acid and milk protein in it and with the added benefit of citric acid from the lemon juice removes any oil, dirt from the face without irritating it. With the constant use one can see a clear difference in the skin. The mixture can be used to remove make up or can be used twice or thrice a week for a thorough cleansing of the skin. And I bet you will find your skin more rejuvenated and clear with the consistent use.

Coconut Oil

The only thing to taken care of while using coconut oil is its quality. Try buying extra virgin coconut oil from any of the well known brand. Using it is real simple. Take a tea spoon of coconut oil and rub it between your palms and apply all over your face and neck. Massage for the next 5 minutes and remove it with the cotton pads slightly dipped into the rose water or you can use a warm wet cloth. It is the best cleanser for those with dry skin. Those with oily skin can mix half tea spoon of Aloe Vera gel in a tea spoon of coconut oil and you are good to go.

Coconut Oil Benefits

Removing dead skin is another step essential for the glowing skin. For a mature skin it is recommended to scrub or exfoliate every second or third day. Here are few ingredients found in our kitchens that can be used for scrubbing.

Tomato and Baking Soda

Cut a ripen tomato and dip it in the baking soda. Rub it gently on your skin for 5-7 minutes. The mixture help reduce inflammation, controls sebum production. Tomatoes contain antioxidant lycopene that help skin fights free radicals to control. oil build up, acne and skin irritation. Tiny particles in baking soda help helps exfoliate the skin by removing dead particles. It is a strong bleaching agent and help minimize appearance of pores. However, tis remedy is not recommended for daily use. Once or twice a week works well.

  • 1 tsp of sugar
  • 1 tsp of coffee

Face Packs

As we age our skin starts losing moisture and elasticity. So, it becomes important to use face packs with active moisturizing and hydrating ingredients. Here are few of my favorites. that actually helped me maintain youthfulness in my 30s.

Honey plus yogurt

Mix 1 tsp. of honey with 1 tsp. of yogurt and apply it on face for 20-25 minutes. Wash your face with warm water. The mixture has a bleaching effect on skin and regular use of this face pack helps lighten age spots and wrinkles. The mask can be used daily.

Coffee and Milk

Mix 2 tbs. of coffee and 1 tbs. of milk and apply the mixture on face for 10 minutes. Caffeine in coffee and lactic acid in the yogurt kills dead cells and remove impurities making skin smoother and brighter looking. The mask could be used twice a week for the best results.

Honey and Egg White

In an egg white mix 2 tbs. of honey and apply it on your face for 15-20 minutes. Egg whites are a great source of protein and help tighten pores and improves skin elasticity. Honey is a best ingredient to restore hydration in the skin.

Fuller's Earth, Lemon Juice and Rose Water

Mix 1 tbs. of fuller's earth, 2 tbs. of rose water and few drops of lemon. Apply for 15-20 minutes. Rinse it off with cool water. Fuller's earth due to its antimicrobial and astringent property helps manage acne and open pores. Use twice a week for the best results.
