Herbs and Herbal Remedies for Liver Support and Liver Detox

Protect Your Liver Using Herbal Remdies

The liver. Not many people think about the liver until it's too late. Your liver is one of the most important organs in your body. It is the filter system for many things that we ingest. It is very important to keep this vital organ healthy.

Taking herbs or herbal remedies can help remove toxins from your liver. It is important to keep your liver "clean". Many recommend doing a liver cleanse periodically, to help clear out toxins that can over tax your liver. Eating a healthy diet can help with eliminating toxins from the body.

If you are going to try an herbal liver cleanse, I would suggest finding a naturopath, herbalist, or other health care provider that can help you through the journey. Detoxing is a good thing, but should be done properly.

Be sure to know an herb thoroughly, before you start taking it. Herbs are natural, but they can have side effects.

Herbs To Support A Healthy Liver

Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is used as an anti-inflammatory herb. In the case of the liver, it is used to combat the inflammation of hepatitis. Licorice root helps protect the liver, and helps promote healing. The herb's anti-inflammatory properties help calm hepatitis-associated liver inflammation. Licorice root can also fights the virus commonly responsible for hepatitis and supplies valuable antioxidant compounds that help maintain the overall health of the liver. People who take high blood pressure meds should stay clear of licorice. Those who have high blood pressure should also stay clear.

Schisandra Berries (Schisandra chinensis) is an adaptogenic herb that is native to Asia. An adaptogenic herb helps our bodies adapt to environmental stress and toxins. Schisadra has been significantly researched that shows its body wide health benefits. The research conducted showed that the lignans contained in the fruit support the liver's own defense system. This is a natural chemical called glutathione.

Artichoke Leaf (Cynara scholymus) is usually used in conjunction with other herbs like milk thistle. Artichoke leaf increases the production of bile, and helps to protect the liver. It can help to regenerate cells and enhances the overall function of the liver. Artichoke leaf is a common ingredient in liver detoxification supplements. Studies have proven that it can help reduce cholesterol.

Trimethyglycine,Vitamins A, C and E are also found in herbal supplements that are targeted at cleansing and detoxifying the liver. They help in proper liver function and have beta carotene and antioxidants that aids the liver.

Use Herbs Wisely

Remember, herbs are natural, but they are medicine. Before using any herbs, talk with your health care provider. Herbs can interact with medicines.
Licorice root should not be taken by persons with high blood pressure, or a tendency for high blood pressure. Even if you don't have high blood pressure, it can raise it to a dangerous level.

Be sure to notice any side effects when taking herbs. These would include allergic reactions. If any side effects are felt, stop immediately.

Always seek immediate medical care if an allergy is severe, such as an anaphylaxis reaction.

Be careful of all herbal remedies that you take.

Hello Darline. Thanks for stopping by. You are right, spring time is a great time to cleanse the body. For years, people would cleanse the body in the spring, due to heavy meat consumption during the winter months. Back in the day, not many veggies were available year round. Milk thistle is a great herb to detox the liver from anything.

cloverleaffarm, thank you for this valuable post! I have had troubles ever since going through chemo a few years back. I strongly believe it to be from liver damage from the harsh medications. I do take the milk thistle and dandelion regularly, and am seeing some improvement. Have you used the Liver Detox Gold listed above? Voted you up, useful, and interesting!
