Your spine is made up of bone but it is also flexible because it is not just made up on one bone. It is made up of small bones cannected to cartilage. These bones called vertebrae stop growing in your late teens or early 20s. You can influence the growth of these bones when you are young but not after they stop growing. To become taller after your body is done growing you need to focus on the cartilage.
The cartilage contains fluid that can be squeezed out. If you decompress your spine you increase the fluid in the cartilage making it thicker and stronger. Your height changes slightly based on the amount of fluid. Strong back muscles reduce spine compression.
Your legs also contain cartilage. If you stretch and exercise your legs you can lengthen them. Most of the exercises for increasing the length of your spine are relaxing. To increase the length of you legs you should be doing intense exercises.
Exercising To Increase Your Height
It is a lot easier to increase your height when are younger. However you can still increase your height by 2 or 3 inches after your body has stopped growing. One of the best ways to increase your height is through the practice of yoga. If you start practicing yoga on a regular basis your height should increase. It works by straitening and decompressing your spine while strengthening your back muscles.
Before trying to lengthen your body you should reduce your stress. Close your eyes and do some deep belly breathing. Then do a few shoulder shrugs to loosen up. The easiest way to increase your height is to stretch your whole body. While standing or laying down stretch your arms and legs away from your body.
Some good yoga asanas(poses) for increasing height are the cobra, warrior, triangle, downward facing dog, bridge, and shoulder stand asanas. You want poses that involve strengthening your back muscles and stretching. I would recommend you do a full routine from a DVD or motion game like the one on wii fit. You could also find an instructor. There are lots of good yoga videos on YouTube. You can search for yoga instructors by selecting search options and searching by channels.
Some good exercises for lengthening your legs include jumping, jumping rope, biking, swimming, running, kicking and hanging. Do these exercises at a high intensity for 15 to 20 minutes each. When biking to increase your leg length raise the seat up as much as you can. When swimming make sure your body is stretched out.
It is important to maintain good posture. Try to keep your spine straight. Slouching makes you shorter. If you do it often enough your muscles become weaker making it harder to stand or sit straight. Yoga can improve your posture but you should still pay attention to how you are sitting, laying down or standing.
Shrinkage And Back Pain
As people get older they often become shorter. If you want to prevent shrinkage you need to maintain good posture and remain flexible. Try to keep exercising on a regular basis. If your back muscles become weak and your spine becomes compressed you may experience a lot of back problems. Practicing yoga can fix or reduce back problems but it is better to prevent them. Some back problems caused by a compressed spine can not be fixed.
Human Growth Hormone
When you are young and still growing you can increase your height by increasing the amount of human growth hormone your body is producing. The amount of human growth hormone your body produces gradually decreases as you get older making it harder to maintain your body. This is why adults have a harder time building muscle and keeping the fat off. So increasing the amount of HGH your body produces can slow down the aging process.
Having good sleeping habits and exercising regularly can increase the amount of HGH your body produces. Intense exercises like sprinting or lifting heavy weights using short rest periods work the best. It should be done in moderation. You can also significantly increase production of HGH by meditating. Meditating is easier than exercising and it takes less time. I can meditate in 15 minutes.
For best results get lots of sleep, exercise, stretch and meditate regularly.
