My Beauty Tips To Looking and Feeling Younger

Apples: Lower Your Cholesterol

Apples, keep you healthy, and by eating two apples a day could lower your Cholesterol by 16%.

I love Red Delicious Apples, they are so juicy, thus the name; delicious. I have a favorite recipe for a quick snack that is so refreshing and filling, you may like it as well. First, I wash an apple and then cut it into, and remove the seeds, then cut it into again. You will have four pieces and if the apple is very large you might want to cut it into again, and have eight pieces.

Apples: Continues with Tip to Great Health

Place the pieces of apple on a plate, and then mix four tablespoons of crunchy peanut butter with four tablespoons of raisins.

Cover each piece with the mixture and chill . It is so good cold on a hot summer day.

Most of the time the apple will not darken much, but if you find this to your dislike, pour some lemon juice over your apple before you apply the mixture.

I learned this recipe at Girl Scout Camp on the St. Johns River in Florida eons ago. And, I added this to my frugal living tips.

If you are watching the sugar content in your food--the average size apple has about 19 grams of sugar.

Drink Seven to Eight Glasses of Water Per Day

2. Drink Water :

Drink from seven to eight glasses of *ice water per day with a slice of lemon.

The functions of water in a human body are vital.

Water:

  • Carries nutrients and oxygen into cells
  • Nourishes the air in lungs
  • Benefits of Metabolism
  • Shields our vital organs
  • Helps our organs to grip nutrients better
  • Controls body temperature
  • Decontaminates
  • Safeguard and nourishes our joints
  • Helps our complexion

And, if you do not drink enough water the brain does not perform well , and this is when you get headaches and migraines. And, I for one do not want another migraine.

* Ice in your water aids to burn off calories.

Lemons--My Face Loves Them

3. Lemons:

( a.) Lemons help as a blood purifier, and aids your body in getting rid of toxins. (b.)Lemons are excellent in fighting diseases that's related to infections.

My Lemon Beauty Secret:

I exfoliate my face and body with lemon juice. I use a Healthy Skin Rejuvenator from Neutrogena, (it is a little hand-held machine that is inexpensive). Everything comes with the kit that you will need. I put a puff on the circle that holds it on, then I soak it with Lemon juice, instead of water. I turn the machine on and make little circles all over my face and neck, taking my time to make sure I touched every spot. Then I rinse my face and throat well, and gently pat it dry. My face feels as soft as a baby. I do this every other night, as my face needs a night of rest, as not to overdo it.

Don't forget about your heels, as we all will be wearing sandals this summer.

No Yo-Yo Diets

4. Maintain a Healthy Weight:

No yoyo diets, because losing and gaining weight will loosen your skin. (We are trying to look good, not like a saggy, baggy elephant.) We all know by now to eat plenty of veggies, fruit, and some nuts and seeds. Budget the red meat, and eat fish, seafood, and chicken.

I will share my layer salad recipe with you . Use a tall round class dish if you have one, so you can enjoy the beauty of your salad. First, layer, lettuce (any kind you like) then layer, the following: sliced tomatoes, sliced boiled eggs, and a mixture of walnuts, raisins and an apple cut into small pieces, radishes, cucumbers, and top with shredded cheese and most of the time, I use broiled shrimp or ham as a layer, before the cheese. Use any dressing, some friends use mayo, but I use Thousand Island Free Dressing--it is so good with no fat or calories.

Now, there is a Mayonnaise without sugar it is called Dukes Mayonnaise.

Walking

5. Walking:

Remember to exercise, and you can do this by walking, every day. At least 30 minutes a day, at a steady pace. Remember to wear supported walking shoes, and the right clothing for the weather. You don't want to get overheated or chilled. Use common sense please for your health--something I always try to do. My mother's favorite question to me was, "Where is your common sense?" Try using it sometime."

Walking outside is good to refresh your mind and to eliminate stress.

6. Sleep:

Is this one of the best beauty treatment for your body--- and your body needs seven to eight hours of sleep at night. You will feel better and look better. And, most of all you will have a better attitude at work and home. Everyone who is around you, the next day will appreciate it.

Remember, to always sleep on your back, with your head raised on at least two pillows. Doing this will eliminate facial skin from being pulled and pushed out of shape, causing wrinkles. The raised pillows also helps keep the fluid from your eyes causing puffiness. And, if you have sinus trouble this helps you breathe better.

If a bad back is one of your problems in sleeping at night, try putting pillows under your knees to relieve the pressure on your back. A body pillow from Walmart or Target is a great pillow I got one from each store I appreciated mine after surgery, I had pillows all around and under me.

Beauty is Skin Deep

7. Skin:

Protect your skin and always wear a hat when you are outside, and use sun screen. Remember, when working outdoors in the summer wear a thin long sleeve shirt.

After your shower, clean your face with Noxzema, and before going to bed apply Vaseline on your face, take your time and rub it in gently. Also, use it for your hands, then put on cotton gloves for the night. Your elbows might appreciate a kiss of Vaseline.

Even as a teenager I lightly applied 'Baby Oil' under my eyes--and I am happy to say I still do it today--and I do not look my age--per my sister Paul.

Who said that we had to spend a lot of money to look great?

Positive Attitude

8. Positive Attitude:

Have a positive attitude, smile, laugh and enjoy your beautiful face, or handsome face if you are a man. A positive attitude will carry you far, and you will be surprise how it will make you feel and think differently about any issues you face in life.

Oh! I am not saying you will skip down a cobble stone road with a lollipop in your mouth after all we have to live in the real world. But a positive attitude will be felt to your core. Try it, it doesn't cost a cent.

Dental Check-Ups

9. Teeth:

Please have regular dental checkups, and please stop smoking if you do. Smoking ages one's skin, and makes it look like yellow leather. (My opinion.)

If your teeth need whitening---I use soda and salt mixed, and I use it first to brush, and rinse out, and then use your regular toothpaste. This works for me.

Note: For whiter teeth I put a Squirt of Hydrogen-Peroxide in my mouth wash. And, I use it to clean my toothbrush.

Just Sharing

I am sharing what I use with you, however, I am not suggesting to anyone to use it. It works for me.

Remember, to love and spoil yourself. You are your best friend; and you deserve all the time you need to make you feel better and look better.

What great tips you have here, I would try that apple with peanut butter and raisins but I have to put lemon juice in it. I use olive oil to clean my face before going to bed. It´s good. Thanks for sharing your beauty treatment. I have to try some of them. Have a lovely week ahead!

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on June 27, 2012:

Thanks Victoria Lynn,

I am happy for your visit and comment. Have a great week, and I have used lemon on my face since High School---and we won't go there for the date. Also I have always used Baby Oil for my eyes. Some beauty experts say it is too heavy to go in---but I am happy with it.

Thanks,

What an interesting hub. I saw that you linked to my layered salad recipe--thanks! Wow! Baking soda and salt for teeth whitening, huh? May have to try that. Lemon for the face, too! I definitely need to drink more water. Great reminder! Many votes, including up!

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on June 07, 2012:

Hi,

Thank you for the visit and for your comment.

I would really check with my doctor about drinking more than 8 glasses of water per day. I drink ice in my water with a slice of lemon, because it help me to burn more calories that way. I have not heard about tepid water being the best for one.

However, my friend from Germany never drinks ice in her tea or water. So maybe it has a lot to do with one's culture.

Thanks,

Your Hub Friend,

Bobbi

I just Googled your question and everyone has their own opinion about if cold or tepid water is best.

lzlpio90 on June 07, 2012:

This is great! I do eat apples and definitely drink water, even more than 8 glasses a day. I bet there are no side effects in drinking much more water, are there? lol. But, I'm kinda confused on what to drink. I've read in one article that drinking cold water is not so good in our body. Which is which? Cold or warm water?

Great Hub...All the information are easy to follow and I found them to be very nice..especially drinking water, fruit and sleep......thanks for sharing.

Christina Lornemark from Sweden on June 06, 2012:

Thanks for all these natural things we can do to stay healthy! We have almost forgotten these rather simple and great ways to feel better and we often search for complicated cures instead. I drink plenty of water, and I love walking but I am not so good at using fruits and such for skincare. I like the feeling in this hub, and thanks for the many good advices! Voted up, useful, interesting and shared

You have a great weekend.

I like the one about the apple and I totally agree with you. Honestly, eating produce gets so overlooked... if all the benefits of eating apples were converted into pills, people would be lining up and paying big bucks for those pills. Yet because it's 'healthy produce' it gets overlooked even at the cheap price that it is. Personally I find that my hair and skin look their best when I'm eating an apple a day too, so it goes beyond the physical health aspects. Great hub, I enjoyed it a lot.

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on November 04, 2011:

Thanks Jamie for reading my hub. I love the good clean skin feeling and look. When I use makeup, I can not wait to get home and wash it off.

Have a great weekend.

The apple/PB/raisin thing sounds super yummy and healthy to boot. Also, I have never heard about that ice water thing - and that's just good to know! I think this is jam-packed with great suggestions for looking your best on a tight budget. No matter how much money anyone throws away on expensive creams and youth-promising products, there is nothing more effective than simply taking care of yourself – mentally, physically and spiritually.

Feel your best, look your best – they are one in the same if you ask me.

Great write, and thanks for some new tips on a subject I love - freebie beautification. : )

OK, I'm in. I could use some beauty tips. But, I bet you are still pretty young, or you would kinda give up like I have. I mean you absolutely cannot stop the aging process.

Ashantina on April 24, 2011:

You sure know some beauty secrets! I do the lemon thing, keeps skin tight :) upping the water intake, definitely got a positive attitude and I love me some sleep!!
