Val enjoys writing prose in rhymes by always leaving a message of a life truism in each piece.
Proverbs were written for people who are able to get the message and its application in life without having to read a 300-page book that only elaborates on it.
And those savvy bartenders have been delivering their casual suggestions to some broken spirits that turned out more mentally digestible --and so effective -- than multiple sessions with a shrink might be.
Not to leave out those grandmother's remedies which oftentimes outperformed pharmaceuticals and their usual side effects.
Now, to make myself more clear about where I am going with all this, my prose in rhymes may -- just may -- mean something to that very kind of people who may also benefit from proverbs, bartender's suggestions, and grandma's "elixirs".
I am not a medico, not a shrink, not a guru -- merely a dude who has read a lot, applied a lot, thought a lot, and I simply like sharing some of it -- with all due intellectual humbleness.
And so we come to the following three pieces of my prose in rhymes which will look just as unassuming as I am claiming to be -- and yet with a valuable message -- but again, only to those few who may give it more than a superficial thought.
I have chosen to be happy, because it is good for my health.
Doing the Uncommon
To do the uncommon we need no one's permission
thinking "out of box" we can defy the paradigm
that can become our life's sweet mission
placing us in a way ahead of our time.
For an example at this age of seventy-six
I haven't seen doctor for dozen years
using some simple well tested tricks
healing my body with my cheers.
Ahead of time when yearly checkups are a must
not waiting for science to give me green light
not allowing my brain to decline and rust
I got all my proofs of my doing right.
Cultural paradigm is full of limiting crap
I won't bother itemizing all those illusions
every so often there's another rule to scrap
with yet another laugh at the global delusions.
To do the uncommon takes but an open mind
free of dogma, scientific, political, or religious
not falling for the obvious but looking behind
recognizing real brain among all "prestigious".
If as that little child you secretly dared
giggling inside for ignoring a social cue
doing a new thing without being scared
then you know feeling behind what I do.
Every negative belief weakens the partnership between mind and body.
-- Deepak Chopra
If Happiness Was Easy -- So Would Be Health
The biggest challenge we may ever face
is to maintain a flow of happy thoughts
at each moment in profound grace
after untying all inner knots.
Like a shadow body follows our mind
so we're as healthy as it lets us be
while foods and meds combined
won't provide that magic key.
But if it was so easy to do
as it is to read in so many books
we would just follow every written cue
enjoying good health and some great looks.
The trouble is in our addicted insistence
to thwart any conscious intervention
coming at it with a big resistance
sabotaging our good intention.
So skilled to prevent and to spoil
while just fixated on amassing wealth
we spend our life roasting on our own oil
for, if happiness was easy, so would be health.
A sad soul can be just as lethal as a germ.
-- John Steinbeck
Activate Healing Genes with Good Mood
I often walk in some big shopping malls
comparing facial wrinkles to expression
so I am enjoying these "studious" strolls
learning something new at every session.
Armed with certain scientific facts
about genetics and gene activation
I may also observe how a person acts
their posture, and signs of some elation.
Among the folks I personally know
it is almost always an obvious case
that their genes in action readily show
ills being written all over their tired face.
Those jolly ones, myself to include
may hardly ever be seen to get sick
and I connect it all to dominant mood
that's all there is to this big healing trick.
How could I forget my "loving intervention"
when I had a really bad ache in my ear
then loved it with a forceful intention
until I made the pain disappear.
Due to a shock, hair may turn grey overnight
so there is really nothing particularly strange
with these healing genes making things right
at times even bringing about instant change.
They say "laughter is the best cure"
so allow those healing genes to arouse
and if you want to make it for yourself sure
start by wiping that frown off from your brows.
