Symptoms of Menopause
A woman's hormones are produced by several organs in the body, primarily the ovaries, but they are also produced by fat cells and the adrenal gland. The hormone Estrogen is responsible for the onset of puberty and regulating your menstrual cycle, as well as aiding in breast development.
As we age an imbalance in our hormones can occur, stress and poor diet can contribute to this condition.
Menopause generally begins sometime in a woman's late 40,s to early 50,s. Because our environment has become so much more toxic, menopause can begin as early as the mid 30's.
At the onset of menopause there is a drop in the amount of estrogen and progesterone in the bloodstream. This can be accompanied by many side effects, such as hot flashes, night sweats, depression, headaches, moodiness and difficulty sleeping.
Another more severe symptom you may experience is fibrocystic changes in the breasts. Fibrocystic breasts are caused by hormonal changes in estrogen and progesterone. When I began menopause, I developed cysts in one of my breasts. It seemed to happen overnight. I had about 6-8 lumps, all different sizes. Some were quite large, about the size of a quarter. I had a mammogram and an ultrasound which confirmed they were benign cysts. Due to the fact that they were so large, they basically took over much of my breast, making it very uncomfortable. After some research, I began using a natural progesterone cream and they slowly shrank and then disappeared altogether.

Natural Progesterone Supplement Essential Oil
Due to the fact that most women have too much estrogen and not enough progesterone, taking more estrogen just doesn't make any sense to me.
I have tried natural progesterone cream which actually helped with my symptoms. It helps to balance the amount of estrogen and progesterone in your body.
I found an essential oil blend called Progessence Plus which is a natural Progesterone supplement. It is an all natural hormone replacement made with essential oils and wild yam extract, which has no harmful side effects. I myself have not tried this one yet, but have seen very good reviews on it and because I have had such good results with the other oils, I will be trying this one also.
Causes of Hormone Imbalance
The three main causes of Hormone imbalance are Nutritional, Stress and Xenoestrogens, which cause us to become estrogen dominant.
I think Nutrition and Stress are pretty self explanatory, so I am going to focus on Xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens are environmental toxins and chemicals known as Xenohormones which imitate estrogen and affect our hormone balance.
Xenohormones are a group of either naturally occurring or artificially created compounds showing hormone like properties. Xenohormones are frequently implicated in endocrine disruption.
Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that at certain doses, can interfere with our hormones. Endocrine disruptors, are present in much of our food, but also in almost every aspect of our lives, such as household products and personal care items. Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that interfere with the normal functioning of the endocrine system and create imbalances throughout the body, particularly the reproductive, thyroid and adrenal system.
To put it in plain English. We are exposed on a daily basis to chemicals that mimic estrogen. It's in the products we use on our body, plastic dishes & teflon coated pans. It's in the air we breathe as well as fumes from our vehicles, paint, nail polish etc. The processed food and the commercially raised meat you eat is a huge source of xenohormones. The food they feed these animals contains tons of chemicals, as well as estrogenic drugs to fatten them up. This exposure interferes with our normal balance of hormones and causes Estrogen Dominance.
Symptoms of Estrogen Dominance Include:
- Weight Gain
- Mood Swings
- Heavy Periods
- Sluggish Metabolism
- Breast Tenderness
- Decreased Libido
- Breast Cancer
- Ovarian Cancer
- Cervical Cancer

You should always consult with your doctor about your health issues. But ultimately you have to decide how you want to treat your symptoms. Sometimes mainstream medicine isn't the best thing for us.
