Sinusitis: Types and Causes, Symptoms & Preventions, or Remedies

Sinusitis is a condition that resulted in inflammation or swelling of mucous membranes that lines sinuses are also known as rhinosinusitis. Sinuses are empty spaces air pockets present within the bones between eyes, beyond the cheekbones, nose, and forehead. The chief function of sinuses is to make mucus that keeps nasal passages moist that is helpful against dust, allergies, and pollution. Healthy sinuses have constant fresh air passage through the nasal cavities. But, when filled with dust particles or fluid that blocked the sinuses that can cause bacterial infections, pain, and allergies.

Types of infection:

There are two types of sinuses, acute and chronic.

Acute; this condition typically lasts for four weeks and improves within a week or ten days. This type of nasal infection is thorough because of dust and seasonal allergies.


Chronic; can last up to 3 months or sometimes even years and, this situation is problematic to diagnose and treat.

  • Allergic rhinitis or hay fever is an allergic condition that primarily occurs in response to specific allergens like pollens are the most common seasonal allergens in allergic rhinitis. Approximately 8 percent of people in America experience types of allergic rhinitis every year, according to research in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and 10 to 30 percent of the world population may also suffer from allergic rhinitis.
  • Nasal polyps are non-cancerous, soft, painless growths in the inner membrane of your nose. They are typically in groups and clusters that can cause blockage of air passages of the nose that lead to nasal infection.
  • Deviated septum is a state in which the nasal septum thin membrane of cartilage present between the nasal air passages has bent to one side. This condition may be from birth or because of any injury.
  • Smoking
  • Teeth infection
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Bronchitis
  • Defective immune system
  • Severe allergies


Symptoms of sinus infection are not considerably different from the common cold. If this condition couldn’t better within 1-2 weeks. It is obligatory to talk to a doctor to ensure that the infection is not worsening.

Raw Honey:

You should have utilized only raw honey. Otherwise, due to being mixed with filtered water, most of its therapeutic properties are lost. Raw honey is an antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral that helps to enhance the immunity of the immune system. In the treatment of breathing, respiratory, and nasal infections, honey is the most effective.

Always start your day by consuming honey water. Mix one tablespoon of raw honey, apple cider vinegar, and three gloves of raw ginger into one glass of warm water and take it almost three times a day to get rid of sinus infection. And if you’re afraid of bad breath due to the presence of ginger slices, then use one tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar by adding into warm water to prevent sinusitis.


Horseradish is one of the best treatment methods to avoid sinus infections in adults. It is one of the most effective ingredients to discharge mucus from nasal cavities. Put a pinch of grated horseradish into the mouth, and you have to uphold it in your mouth till the flavor disappears. After that, you can engulf it. You have to use it three times a day for about one week to see the improvement.


Steam or inhalation therapy is one of the most popular home remedies to treat sinus infections. Steam is a natural expectorant to stop blockage of nasal cavities and throat. As it also moisturizes the respiratory tract or nasal passages to avoid bacterial or fungal infections. Take one glass of water and stew it. Now you have to add few drops of peppermint oil into boiling water. After doing that, immediately inhale the steam.

But, for children, it is not recommended because of burns. And it is also not recommended to people who have high blood pressure, heart diseases, and pregnant women. And for those who have central nervous system disorders.
