Drink Your Freaking Water
Like most of the population, I didn’t pay too much attention to the amount of water I was consuming on a daily basis. I would drink a glass sparingly here or there, but I knew if I was having digestive issues or a headache that I should probably drink some more water. After all, our bodies are composed of 60% water. Adequate water consumption ensures proper bodily functions such as: digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintaining proper body temperature.
Something that was a game changer for me, was purchasing a water bottle I could take with me to work, or have on hand at home. Knowing the exact amount of water I was consuming made me realize that a lot of the symptoms I was experiencing, was because I was actually dehydrated. Now, knowing exactly how much water I am drinking everyday has significantly improved my overall health and mood. Curious if you are drinking enough water? Here are some common signs of dehydration:
- headaches
- constipation
- dry mouth/bad breath
- dry skin
- fatigue
- body aches
The recommended daily amount of water an adult should be drinking is about 3.7 liters for men (about 125 ounces) and 2.7 (91 ounces) liters for women, however, this number fluctuates with how active you are on a daily basis.
If you’ve realized that you need to increase your water intake, but not sure how to get past a few glasses of plain water, here is a super easy solution.. infuse your water with fruits and herbs! It's a fun and delicious way to make drinking water more exciting. It’s best to let your creation marinate overnight, unless the recipe calls for a citrus fruit. Citrus fruits would turn your water bitter, if they infuse too long. Only allow your citrus fruits to infuse for 30 minutes to an hour before consuming.
The best part about infusing your water, is you are actually super charging it with essential vitamins & minerals your body is craving, not to mention it also makes it taste delicious!
