Does Spiritual Health Exist?

What is Spiritual Health?

Spirit in itself is a dimensionless attribute that lacks evidence of its existence despite its substantial presence in every element of the universe. Spiritual health, by definition, is a state of purposeful well-being that leads to self-actualization, and all living beings feel its transcendence in one way or the other (Ghaderi et al., 2018). Spiritual health unequivocally influences the social, psychological, and physical interactions of human beings. It also provides a sense of purpose and controls the decision-making capacity of people in a variety of ways. The internalization of the spirit within the human body increases its resistance against unfavorable circumstances. Spirituality is a state of satisfaction that supports the elements of life in a manner to enhance the coping skills of individuals. It also helps the recovery and healing processes and changes or modifies the perceptions of human beings. The scientific literature does not so far provide concrete evidence of the existence of spirituality, which is defined by the philosophical realm based on logic, ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology.

Does Spirituality Exist?

The philosophical schools of thought describe spirit as the essential ingredient of life that rests within concrete vessels or bodies. The physical and psychosocial health of the human body, therefore, depends on the state and activity of its spirit. The measurement of the human soul relies on four unique dimensions of the x-axis, y-axis, z-axis, and time. Its physical existence is challenged by religious or cultural conventions that describe the spirit in terms of feelings or thoughts that connect human beings with their creator. The immaterial presence of the soul (inside the human body) appears as an illusion in the real-world scenario since it does not comply with the laws of physics discovered so far. Spirituality and spiritual health are the subjects of intense debate between scientists, physicians, and philosophers over time; however, none of them ever achieved any agreement in terms of defining the spiritual elements of life.

What is the Reality of Soul?

The soul and ego interact with each other with the core objective of fixing or improving human activities against circumstances and the environment. While the soul controls the decision-making capacity, the ego helps to resolve a range of simple to complex problems of life (Puchalski, 2001). The concomitant and coordinated actions of the soul and ego trigger the spiritual healing processes inside the human body. Spirit sometimes resides within its human body (vessel); however, at some other times, it exits the body and yet controls its thoughts and activities. The philosophers continue debating the mechanisms of sleep physiology and the role of spirituality in controlling sleep mechanisms. Some of them believe in the notion that spirit exits the human body during stage-3 or non-rapid eye movement sleep. The absence of a soul within the human body during this phase probably reduces the breathing pattern and heartbeat. The human body experiences its most relaxed state before the soul or spirit re-enters its structures to revitalize the physiological mechanisms. The process repeats until the human being experiences the death process, which the philosophers believe is the exit way to enter the next phase of life. Interestingly, this notion is not evidenced or substantiated by facts or logic in the scientific or philosophical literature. The increasing gap between science and philosophy is the sole cause of the lack of understanding or misunderstanding of spirituality among philosophers and scientists.

Can You Crack the Code of Life?

Does spirit define the essence of life or life itself? Does the soul pave the way to the emotional, psychological, social, and physical well-being of human beings? Does the soul of the human body direct its overall existence? Why do philosophers relentlessly debate spiritual attributions? Why, despite the earnest efforts, do the cause, essence, and fate of life appear undetermined? Why the scientific inventions and discoveries have so far failed to unravel the secret of soul and spirituality? These questions continue to cause unrest among researchers and philosophers across the globe. The surge to crack the secret code of life continues to expand; however, the socio-political differences within the human populations barricade spiritual innovations and attempts to unravel the truth of life. The material presence of the soul is widely-debated in the absence of concrete evidence. The immaterial nature of the spirit is felt but not (evidently) recognized by human beings. The scientific approaches rely on material facts obtained through observations. Hypotheses about spirituality and spiritual health do not rely on focused observations. That’s the reason why scientists lack interest in studying the soul, and this adventure is undertaken by philosophers who do not have a scientific bent of mind.

What is the Essence of Spiritual Health?

Physicians and health care professionals across the globe agree with the requirement of enhancing the spiritual health of patients to improve their recovery rate. The holistic and person-centered health care measures focus on increasing the spiritual health of people to elevate their health-related quality of life, wellness outcomes, and life expectancy. The culture-sensitive health care provisions advocate the requirement of integrating community-based practices with conservative health care measures to improve the efficacy of medical treatment. Culture-sensitive health care measures rely on the concept of spiritual health in many ways. The compliance to religious conventions during the course of medical management in many scenarios enhances the therapeutic satisfaction of individuals. Different faith conventions provide customized pathways to health and recovery. The serious knowledge gaps between religion, philosophy, and scientific innovations have resulted in a situation of a psychosocial crisis based on interpersonal conflicts between individuals of various belief systems. People rely on their perceptions and apprehension about life and worship the deities, spirit, or an unseen God following the traditional conventions embedded and inculcated in their colonized minds. The clouds of faith and religious norms barricade the search for truth, and eventually, people refrain from observations and analysis of the material and immaterial facts of nature. Despite scientific progress and the evolution of technology, the colonized minds of the human populations continue to throttle their attempts to explore the truth of life. The social, financial, and psychological tussles between people deviate them from the path to integrity and wellness that the precious life brings into existence through an unexplored process. Spiritual health requires much attention of human beings, and scientists/researchers need to focus on exploring the mechanisms and processes of spirituality to understand the implications of spiritual health in real-life scenarios.
