  • Citrus and other fruits and dark green or yellow vegetables for vitamin C and beta carotene, bioflavonoids, and the plant chemicals that protect against cancer.
  • Whole-grain breads and cereals and other high-fiber foods to promote smooth colon function.

Recent research has dramatically changed our thinking about the role of diet in both the prevention and treatment of cancer. It is increasingly clear that certain dietary elements may help prevent the development and spread of malignancies, while others slow or block tumor growth. Researches show that about 35% of all cancers may be related to diet, especially one high in fat and processed foods, and many of these cancers could be prevented by dietary changes.

The Anti - Cancer Diet .....

Eat more fruit and vegetables.

A diet consisting of ample fruits and vegetables reduce the risk of many deadly cancers. These foods are rich in bioflavonoids and other plant chemicals, dietary fiber, folate, and antioxidants beta carotene and vitamin C. These substances may slow, stop, or reverse the processes that lead to cancer. They do this by several protective mechanisms by detoxifying cancer-causing agents (carcinogens) by inducing the formation of protective enzymes, and by reducing the hormonal action that can stimulate tumor growth. Folate is necessary for normal DNA synthesis and repair and low levels are thought to make cells vulnerable to carcinogenesis. Green potatoes due to exposure of the regular potatoes to sunlight are carcinogenic. So choose your potatoes wisely.

Reduce your fat intake.

Studies link a high-fat diet and obesity with an increased risk of cancers of the colon, uterus, prostate, and skin.No more than 30% of total calories should come from fats. Often it takes only a few dietary changes to lower fat intake, such as, choosing lean cuts of meat, trimming away all visible fat, eating vegetarian dishes several times a week, adapting low fat cooking methods, such as baking and steaming, and limiting the use of added fats such as butter, margarine, mayonnaise and oils.

When Cancer strikes ..... .....

Cancer patients should have good nutrition as an aid to recovery. Surgery, which still remains the major treatment for cancer, also requires a highly nutritious diet for healing and recuperation. The cancer itself can cause nutritional problems that will require treatment along with the underlying disease.

Weight loss is common among most cancer patients. Most have a loss of appetite as a result of cancer itself. Cancer treatment in form of radiation and chemotherapy, suppress appetite and produce nausea as a side effect. A nutritionist can device a diet and recommend supplements to provide the calories, protein, and other nutrients needed to maintain weight and promote healing.

Consume plenty of liquids ..... water, soups, other beverages like , tea, coffee, milk and milk shakes, drinking chocolate, fresh fruit juices. This will well maintain the bodily hydration and nourishment.

This will protect against cancer. It speeds the transit of waste through the colon, which cuts the risk of bowel cancer. A high-fiber, low-calorie diet also protects against obesity and the increased risk of cancers linked to excessive body fat.
