A beautiful Quartz, usually purple, or violet in colour, Amethyst is a very spiritual stone and is a stone of peace.
When held in your receptive hand (left hand if you are right handed and right if you are left handed) an Amethyst's peaceful vibrations aid in soothing, de-stressing and calming - especially helpful after a stress-filled day.
Or wear Amethyst next to your skin to keep you calm in stressful situations.
When placed beneath the pillow Amethyst is said to be able to ward off nightmares and insomnia.
It aids peaceful sleep and pleasant dreams - which can sometimes be prophetic.
Amethyst inspires the healing of all organs and brings about mental peace and a state of relaxation.
Ancients thought it was a cure for drunkenness, perhaps
because its name comes from the Greek word meaning 'not drunken'. Those who wore
it thought they could drink as much as they liked without suffering from any ill
It is also said to lose its brightness in the presence of poison and it pales if the wearer is ill.
Amethyst is a powerful amulet for travellers. When worn it protects against thieves, harm, danger and sickness. It gives courage to the wearer.
Wear or hold an amethyst during meditation to help open and activate the crown chakra.
It is said to aid in the development of your pyschic awareness and that keeping an amethyst with your divinatory tools, such as tarot cards, runes and I Ching Coins, will not only increase their ‘powers’ but enable you to interpret messages with greater understanding and wisdom.
Amethyst, as a Talisman, helps to bring feelings of happiness, as it is a stone of pure love. It is beautiful as well as spiritual and it has no negative side effects. It is therefore a 'must' for anyone's crystal collection!

Hi everyone,I have an event that I ralely care about that I would like to share with you.For a number of years I have been involved in contra dancing. I havelearned that it is something that has had great value to communities in thepast and I believe activities like this will be very important in thefuture as we need to focus on building our communities and making our ownlocal entertainment. For those who have never contra danced, just know that it is very easy topick up with no prior experience and it ralely gives you a chance to interactpositively with others. It is great for all ages, I teach it to firstgraders daily and I have also danced with people in their 80 s or older. There are a number of great dances in our area and I am very happy to seethe recent growth of a dance series in the center of Amherst which providesand alternative to driving all the way to Greenfield as many dancers do.The dances in South Amherst at the Munson Library are somewhat less-knownand that is why I want you bring them to your attention. There is a dancethat takes place on the fourth Saturday of most months, including thisSaturday 10/27/2012. This event is very friendly to beginners and familiesand we are ralely trying to assure the future of this kind of community bywelcoming newcomers young and old, including families with children who areold enough to follow directions (we often say 10 and up but that isflexible especially if you have prior experience). We also welcome musicians, novice or experienced, to come play with thehired live band.I think that the community aspects of this activity are directly relevantto the ideas or transition towns and I hope some of you will be able tojoin us. More information can be found at fiddlersgreencontra.org I hope to see some new faces there.
