We all face setbacks at some point in our life. Modern time Lifestyle, the pressure of the corporate responsibilities, falling prey to dirty politics in the offices, getting bullied and various traumatic situations make even the tough people depressed. There are various types of depression.

How traveling helps to maintain good mental health is a viral topic on the internet. I would like to throw a thoughtful beam of light on how traveling lowers your depression. Depression can stay for a whole decade or it can go within a few days depending upon what you have been through and what kind of treatment are you getting. In the early stages of depression, traveling can be a great boon.

But, If you are suffering from chronic depression it is recommended to take medication or therapy. However, setting yourself free from the routine and traveling in addition to medication or therapy is a more effective way to overcome chronic depression.

1. Meditation Camps

Yes of course you can meditate at home or any silent place near your home. meditating and doing yoga in groups has its benefits. It not only calms your mind but you travel to a peaceful place where you connect to the different kinds of people and together you bring back the lost bliss in your lives.

These camps are located in areas rich in vegetation and soothing landscapes. After all, the aura does play a major role especially if you are suffering from depression. The change in the air, ambiance, and isolation from the tedious routine can bring back your depression levels to normal.

You can find many camps in India that have transformed the lives of depressed people. Volunteering in such events implants the feeling of serving for the welfare of mankind instead of serving the self-centered ego and rising the levels of depression if someone tried to hurt the ego.


2. Solo Ventures

This is for all the frustrated and depressed people. But this is exclusively for all my introverted friends. You can plan a solo trip to a beach or at the top of a peak to connect with nature.

Many people like solo meditation in such serene environments. You can focus on the sound of the water dripping from the leaves of the trees, chirping birds, the sound of the waves while meditating. You are on your own. nobody is directing your way. you are getting to know yourself even better by spending the alone time which will later break you free from the nervous breakdowns. You can instill a childlike curiosity just like you had when you were a kid. You can run with the butterfly, watch a flying bird just like a child as you will be more conscious and in the moment.

You don't have to stay all alone in a dense forest like bear Grylls (though you can). All you have to do is put yourself in an ambiance where you can explore the world as well as yourself. Solo ventures are also preferred by various artists as they get new ideas when they are on their own at an unknown or awe-inspiring destination.


3. Studious Mindset

If life is seeming tasteless. If you have lost the zest. If all the help available on the internet is tried and tested by you but still you can't get rid of nervous breakdowns, Then you must set yourself on a 40 days venture. Just get out and go to your favorite travel spot. It may be a beach, museum, or hilltop. Observe the place and try to converse with the locals.

If you are visiting a groovy metro then go and talk to the hipsters. Setting the studious mode while traveling brings your attention to a new world. When you come back home, to your surprise you get a completely new attitude to face your problems. The key is doing something that you don't usually do.

Making the observations. This needs conscious involvement. You must leave your tensions back at home. Yes, it will take some time as the worries will try to grab you. But while making observations you will get a view of the big picture. The prize is worth doing it.


Once I went to a trek. Beautiful nature, astounding scenery, and lovely climate. But when I looked at the homes of the locals I felt sad. They were leaving in cottages in a remote area. They were lacking many modern facilities.

They were feeding their tummies on the income they get from the tourists every monsoon. I recalled the facilities that I have. To go there and wish that you will like to stay in such a beautiful place forever is one thing but to stay there is another thing. Our group provided help to these people.

We help them financially. We also handed them some clothes. When you are at your sweet home, your depressed mind thinks that your miseries are the greatest of all. Then you step out to hear the needy screams. You end up helping them and in turn, you can find your depression getting dissipated. Most of you have experienced this. That's the art of giving.

You can do online donations. But going out and serving the people will help you forget about your tiny world and its problems. Even the depressed introverts have benefited from this.

4. No Screen Weekend

Technology is advancing, but it is having its adverse effects on the human mind. Those who are not depressed knows how to utilize the smartphone for their benefits. But those who are too addicted to the devices and the devices control them, then they are increasing their anxiety.

If they are already going through depression they feel temporarily better by such addictions but in the long term, they are getting anxious. depression, plus the anxiety that comes due to the rush of social media's competition to stay updated is affecting human health.

Due to this, depressed victims lack the rest they usually need. To avoid further strain on your nervous system you will have to break free from the digital world on the weekends. you can plan a family trip or a friend's meeting where the party has only one rule - don't use the phones.

Following this rule at home can be a difficult task and there are chances of cheating. But when you are out at an amazing sight it's easy to engage with the people, place, and the nature of the place.

Traveling is a change from your daily monotonous chores, so its one of the coolest tool to help your depressed friends go out on a tour that refreshes his soul and repolishes his attitude and makes him realize there are many things to live for and his problem is just a teensy-weensy speck compared to the entire universe.

As I was reading your article, I felt like packing up bags and go for a solo trip. But because of lockdown, I don't think this is possible now.
