Color Your Day : The Benefits of Color Therapy

Color Your Day : The Benefits of Color Therapy

Color Your Day : The Benefits of Color Therapy. Color, color, color, color, it brightens the day and make you happier specially at times when you are stressed out. People have color preferences and usually they based their choices of products they use or wear based on the vibes it creates when they look at it or use the item.

They choose their wardrobe, bags, nail colors and almost everything they consume or use based on the color to some extent. People have their own favorite color as well. For instance, my favorite color is orange and other products, fruits or anything I use, I prefer the orange color. I like the fruit orange, pumpkin and I wear orange regularly.

To some extent you feel happier when you like the color you see and it elevates your mood. I noticed that when I wear a clothing with a color which I like I am in the mood and happier. I have a friend whose favorite color is purple and all her things are all purple in color, from ball pen -- to shoulder bag plus her favorite flower -- violets. How about orange or purple as color of a car, anyone?

The topic of this hub is about color therapy as a method of healing. It is an alternative way of healing which has its roots in Ayurvedic medicine from India.

Color works Chakra charts

Color works Chakra charts

Chakra explained

  • There are seven main energy centres (chakras) of the body. These chakras are like spirals of energy, each one relating to the others and by utilizing the seven colours of the spectrum, Color Therapy aims to balance and enhance our body's energy centres/chakras and also to help stimulate our body's own healing process.  Colour Therapy in short utilizes colour to re-balance the Chakras that have become depleted of energy.

What is Color Therapy?

Color therapy , chromotherapy, sometimes called colorology or cromatherapy, is an alternative way of healing method -- a technique which used color and light to balance energy in the person well being, physical, emotional, spiritual or mental.

Color therapy is an area of holistic healing which uses color in an attempt to affect our mood, emotions and  even our health.

The Ayurvedic medicine (from India) describes the body as having major main chakras, seven all in all, which are spiritual centers located along the spine that are associated with a color, function and organ or bodily system. According to this explanation, these colors can become imbalanced and result in physical diseases but these imbalances can be corrected by using the appropriate color as a treatment.

Avicenna In his Canon of Medicine he made clear the vital importance of color in both diagnosis and treatment

Avicenna In his Canon of Medicine he made clear the vital importance of color in both diagnosis and treatment

Brief History of Color Therapy

The Beginning -- Avicenna (980-1037) --- viewed color to be of vital importance in diagnosis and traetment, discussed chromotherapy in " The Cannon of Meficine". He wrote that "Color is an observable symptom of disease" and also developed a chart that related color to the temperature and physical condition of the body. His view was that red moved the blood, blue or white cooled it, and yellow reduced muscular pain and inflammation. He further discussed the properties of colors for healing and was "the first to establish that the wrong color suggested for therapy would elicit no response in specific diseases."

The use of color as a therapy has a long history -- the ancient Egyptians and ancient Greeks built healing temples of light and color and the use of color became deeply embedded in Chinese and Indian medicine, and it remains an integral part of Ayurvedic medicine as well.

  • If you want to be in a joyful mood, yellow is a nice color to proejct that mood.It is also considered an optimistic color and it has been found out that most people are temperamental when they are in yellow rooms because if you overused it, it can be overpowering to your eyes.

Lisa Brown from Michigan on June 18, 2013:

This is a great hub. I too have started to add color to my home. It used to be all white, tan, cream, and brown. I've since added a chocolate room for tranquility, and a golden yellow room for excitement and inspiration, and I'm adding a room with red for energy and spirit.

Audrey Hunt from Pahrump NV on June 17, 2013:

A wonderful, colorful hub :) I seem to be attracted to white. It looks good on me. But when I had my colors done I was told to wear orange, blue, pink and especially salmon.

You've done an excellent job here Maita and voted up and across. I will pin this too and share as well. Thank you. Your photos are lovely because they are of you!

Cassandra Mantis from UK and Nerujenia on March 18, 2010:

Hy Maita! Wow! What an amazing hub you have written here, this is just fantastic. I am a believer in colour therapy and parts of my home have different colours for different ways of relaxing.I clothing reds and lilacs or gentle blues I love, and in the summer Tangerine and Peach are lovely to wear. I think people derive a kind of energy from colours. I get mistaken for being Spanish or Italian with my jeyt black hair, so Italian or spanish or mediterannean colour schemes are just lovely! Don't get me talking about this or I'll be here all day! LOL! take care, moi friend! (NIce to see your pics too! Geat!)

Always love your great hubs! : )

Mike Lickteig from Lawrence KS USA on March 09, 2010:

I wear red and purple a lot, with some blacks and grays thrown in. In corporate America, executives will wear red ties to business meetings to symbolize their power.

I have always been interested in the subconscious response to color, as it can be used in art to evoke specific moods, or confuse the viewer by using colors that contradict the artist's theme.

Thanks so much for this fine work, Maita. Nice photos also, you are so pretty.

Truth From Truth from Michigan on March 09, 2010:

Hello, hello, from London, UK on March 08, 2010:

Great research and a good hub. Well done, Maita.

Andrew from Italy on March 07, 2010:

Maybe there is no scientific evidence but I can assure that wearing yellow glasses while driving attention and reflexes get increased. And this can be easily demonstrated. Plus many hospitals use to paint walls in green not only for relaxation as it seems to have a kind of anti-bacterial property. But they'll never admit it. :)

Rated up! Very well done Maita.

Mystique1957 from Caracas-Venezuela on March 07, 2010:

Color not only affects how I feel, it affects the people around me too. So depending on where and why I am going somewhere, I always choose a color that is appropriate. Funny thing to think of, but it does have it's advantages. Color therapy is very intriguing, and you have written another wonderful hub Maita! xox

dohn121 from Hudson Valley, New York on March 07, 2010:

This was so entertaining to read, Maita. Blue is my favorite color and yellow is secondary to that. In the summer time, I like to wear vibrant colors and yes, it does put me in a much better mood. The happier and more confident you are, the more people will take notice of you. No one likes a grouch :D Awesome, Maita! What a great idea for a hub.

RevLady from Lantana, Florida on March 07, 2010:

This hub is great Maita. Color therapy is really wonderful and it is used in many hospitals and private therapists offices because they realize the psychological affect it has upon moods. It is like the weather, when it is a gray or rainy day, I do feel as spiffy as I do when the sun is shining brightly. Colors do play a role in how we feel.

Thank you for reminding me. Now, let me go take off my BLACK dress (smile).

Forever His,
