Calculating Weight Watchers Points
Get the Old Points Out of Your Head!
So much has changed when it comes to calculating Weight Watchers® points, with the introduction of Weight Watchers' Points Plus®...and now the 360° program. Best advice to all those experienced with the old Weight Watchers plan is to forget it. Erase your memory banks and avoid frustration and confusion. Tackle Weight Watchers® 360° like a brand new program that you’ve never seen before. Start fresh. You're going to love it!
The problem is that veteran Weight Watchers have pretty much memorized the points in everything! We could look at a plate full of food and instantly know how to count what it would cost us. While this new program is superior in nature, it has maintained a keyword that make us want to compare it to its predecessor: "points". Points are no longer points! They're different. Plan to re-learn them. The quicker we can forget the old, and put on the new, the more we will enjoy this weight loss adventure
What Has Changed?
Daily point allotments are new. In the Weight Watchers® 360° program you get 26 daily points, or more.
Bonus points are very different from the classic version. In the 2001 and 2013 plans, they are a very exciting 49 points! That keeps eating out and enjoying it a real possibility!
CALORIES are not in the equation. You can stop reading that part of the nutritional labels. Retrain your eyes to look for four things: protein, carbohydrates, fats and fiber.
There is no SLIDING SCALE. Weight Watchers leaders tell us that it wasn't possible to make one that would handle the new system, though their best designers tried. You'll find that the points are listed in the new Points Planner or can be calculated using a Weight Watchers Points Plus® Calculator, WW Points Tracking Apps or as a Weight Watchers Online Tool. Weight Watchers Apps are available for Ipad, Ipod, Verizon, Blackberry and Android, to name a few.
Zero points? We've always loved our zero point foods, haven't we! Get this: now nearly all fruits and vegetables are ZERO points, unlimited quantities. Yes, FRUITS!!! Even bananas!
Make a Cheat Sheet
The Weight Watcher's Online program has a "favorites list" function that will do this for you but you may want something in-hand. Make a cheat sheet of the foods that you eat in your diet often, even daily.
Keep the list with you for a quick reference. Eventually these points will become the ones you'll remember and the old system will be a thing of the past!
Weight Watchers is a Plan Built on Success
Weight Watchers is tried and true. Each month there are new success stories on their website and in their magazine to encourage you.
Go to a meeting and you'll find that real testimonials there in your midst. Every leader has lost their weight and kept it off!

Helen, I'm sorry to say that I don't have a long list. My cheat sheet in this hub is clickable. Click on it to increase the size. You'll at least be able to get those points values. It's always best, though, to get a points calculator and do your own list. That way you can be sure it's right. If you go to my post on Weight Watchers Points Plus Calculator there is a link to a free online calculator.

Do you have a list of foods with their point value that I can print on my printer?

Anyone seen the new Jennifer Hudson commercial where she sings with the older, heavier Jennifer Hudson? It's so inspiring. I inserted it in this hub for the readers!

rkabernathy, I wish I knew. Many people have the basic 29 plus their 45 bonus for the week. At higher weights, they may be allowed more but I sincerely don't know. Maybe other readers do and can add their knowledge to these comments!

hi, can you tell me how many points a day i can have on the new points plus program, i downloaded the points calculator for my phone so i know how many pts are in food with labels but not meats like chicken and hamburger. i weigh 229.2, am 53 yrs old and 5'5 tall. I know i can have 49 more per week but i don't know how many i can have a day so for 4 days i have been eating just the 29 pts. the fewest you can have. thank you for any help you can give me, if i had a job i would go to the meetings but i cant afford it. thanks again and good luck to ya

Thank you! Have been wanting to know all about this "new" Points Plus program from WW! I joined WW about 8 years ago, but couldn't make the meetings after about 4 months due to circumstances beyond my control....but I definitely had some success. Now it can be done online, so I'm stating again! great hub.

Elena, old plan or new, portions really are the key. I did lose about 4 pounds the first 7 days but I think I was eating too many "free" fruits that are higher in carbs (bananas especially). Some people probably won't have a problem doing that but I was having too much of a good time with those free fruits! LOL

So is it good? Does the plan work better?
I was on WW once, very briefly. I liked it but I must have calculated my portions wrong because I did not loose much weight. I stopped not because I was not loosing weight but because I wanted to get pregnant again.
I keep thinking about trying again.
