In health care since 1977, but keenly aware of Western medicine's shortcomings, Rose Mary began exploring natural health in the late 1990s.
BodyTalk is an Energy Healing technique developed by Dr. John Veltheim, an Australian chiropractor who now lives in Florida. In addition to chiropractic, Dr. Veltheim is also trained in acupuncture, Reiki, kinesiology, and bioenergetics. During the mid-90s, he started putting together a treatment protocol to benefit his clients with chronic infections, allergies, immune system problems, arthritis and other musculoskeletal problems, blood sugar problems, organ problems, dyslexia, and basic energy system imbalances.
The BodyTalk System was founded in 1995. It is a system of intervention based on applied kinesiology clinical findings, acupuncture energy dynamics, advanced yoga principles, and western medicine knowledge. Body Talk is practiced in 35 countries, by 2000 practitioners. Luckily my massage therapist and friend is one of them!
The overriding principle of BodyTalk is that our bodies can heal themselves on all levels, and all disease is reflected in the brain in some way. The classic example on websites and videos is the healing of cuts. When you cut your finger, or experience most any kind of injury, the body knows what to do. It goes into action and starts healing. We do not seek medical intervention for small cuts. We may use an ointment, or apply a Band-Aid, but for the most part, our body takes care of cuts. This self-healing, which is automatic, is referred to by BodyTalk practitioners as “innate wisdom”, the body’s “inborn intelligence”.
Stress, both emotional and environmental, disrupt the communication between our brain and body, causing problems with mental, physical, or emotional health. The goal of BodyTalk is to help our brain “rewire”, reestablishing optimal communication with all cells and tissues of our body. In this way BodyTalk facilitates our body’s ability to heal itself at every level.
Applied Kinesiology Muscle Testing
The BodyTalk System seeks to restore balance between the two sides of the brain, and all levels of brain function. Using a similar process to Applied Kinesiology muscle testing, the BodyTalk practitioner uses yes/no “questions”. Reading our body’s neuromuscular feedback, the practitioner determines which of the body’s lines of communication are weak or broken, and not only how to restore them, but also in what order.
Practitioners of the BodyTalk System use the BodyTalk Protocol, along with their intuition based on their training and experience. They will use a series of taps on the body to get our body to focus on healing. This technique is used in other holistic healing practices, such as yoga. Tapping on the head tells the brain to repair the disrupted lines of communication. Tapping on the sternum tells the heart to save the repair.
Intro to BodyTalk Cortices Technique
How to do BodyTalk Cortices Technique
According to the BodyTalk System website, clients often experience a feeling of enhanced well-being after only one or two sessions. They assert that the technique is safe for infants, children, and animals, and that there are absolutely no adverse effects.
Dr. Veltheim has encouraged all BodyTalk practitioners to teach clients the BodyTalk Cortices Technique. Because of potentially disrupting electromagnetic energies all around us, as well as the constant life stressors that most of us find ourselves immersed in, he recommends we practice this self technique daily to keep the communication between the two hemispheres of the brain optimal. The website notes that balancing the brain can resolve many common issues, and improve brain function, including memory.
I was never aware of any dramatic changes in my health after BodyTalk sessions, but I’m not ready to give up on the technique, especially after my research for this article. Given my history of extreme and prolonged stress, and the impact on my endocrine system and immune function, I’m ready to re-commit to sessions. I didn’t get to where I am “in one to two sessions” so to speak. Since Dr. Veltheim says the Cortices Technique takes only about a minute a day, I’m definitely game to give it a try. As I say to my own clients, it may not help, but there’s absolutely no reason it should hurt. And it doesn’t cost anything. So why not give it a try?
Dr. Veltheim gives an overview of the BodyTalk System and why he recommends the Corticies Technique in the first video, which is about 8 minutes. In the second video he demonstrates the technique.

Very good information. Alternative health care is always worth the time to try out. You never know most of the time for me it works. I liked the video about the demonstration which I am trying out. Thanks.

Good to hear tebo. I set my phone to remind me to do the BodyTalk Access program, and have been doing it daily for a month now.
tebo from New Zealand on April 06, 2011:
Cool. I'm going to do this. These simple things are amazing. Doesn't take much to give them a go.
rmcrayne (author) from San Antonio Texas on September 30, 2010:
THanks so much for the visit and comment Tatjana. I'm afraid my path started slow. I've never had any dramatic changes.
Tatjana-Mihaela from Zadar, CROATIA on September 18, 2010:
Seems very OK , but instead of tapping my head I would prefer Reiki treatment on head, positions are similar. Anyhow, I believe that dramatic changes occur only to the people who just started with healing - people who are used to be healed or heal others with various energy techniques after some time stop to have big changes with any technique - healing just goes smoothly and slowly, without too much extasy, LOL.
Thank you so much for sharing it.

rmcrayne (author) from San Antonio Texas on March 09, 2010:
Pamela the energy healing techniques are such a departure from Western Medicine, they are hard to conceptualize. I'll have to update the hub as I learn more.

I hear ya Paradise. I think I'm beginning to grasp the "diagnosis" part, but very fuzzy on "the fix".

An interesting hub...I'm still a little skeptical, though.
