Analyzing Dreams: What Does My Dream Mean?

Why Should We Analyze Our Dreams?

I have always been fascinated with dreams. Even my strangest of dreams I have often stopped and wondered what they could mean. I recently I had a long discussion with a couple of my closest friends. During this time we spoke about some of our funniest, strangest, and scariest dreams. We also discussed what each of these dreams may mean. To our surprise most of the dreams that we could still recall had occurred during a time of stress in our lives. We had all decided that these stressful moments in our lives actually had something to do with why we had experienced these dreams. It all seemed to add up.

Due to this recent discussion with my friends. I had decided to make a Hub about analyzing dreams in order to help others figure out why they are having the dreams they are. I feel that once you know the reason for the dream you realize just how much impact a certain life event has made on you. After this realization it is possible to work on correcting this life stressor.

Dream Symbols

There are many common dream symbols that we have all encountered in our dreams at some point or another. Most of these symbols do have a common meaning associated with them. However, analyzing your dreams according to the meaning of each significant symbol in your dream may not be accurate. The truth is each symbol may have a different meaning for someone else depending on their life circumstances.

Luckily for you though these are still COMMON symbols seen in dreams and sometimes do have the same meaning you are reading about online.

Common Dream Symbols and Their Meanings

  • Abandonment- If someone or everyone has abandoned you somehow in your dreams. The common meaning for this is that it is time to let go of your past. Your past is preventing you from moving forward.

My uncle died last year and I had a dream that we had a family reunion and my grandma made him come back to life. When the reunion ended I said bye to him and my grandma told him it was time to go and she opened his box with his ashes and his head started turning into ashes. And I got to scared that I ran out of the door and my cousin hugged me and told me it was okay. What does my dream mean?

Tracy B (author) from Canada on March 28, 2019:

Oh my! That sounds like a really emotional dream.

julietasuma on March 21, 2019:

I keep having dreams of tsaumi water. In my last dream, I was focused on the feelings of people around me during the water flood. There was a man sitting and crying I felt so sorry and sad about him. Other people were just ignoring what was happening and they were continue doing their things as nothing happen. Others were running. At one point, I was holding a baby and I was just thinking to save that baby; I run with the baby in my arms. It was a sad and stressful dream. It was scared to see the water comming. We were all together in a very big place like a The Jetsons' house (the cartoon).

Man from Modesto from Kiev, Ukraine (formerly Modesto, California) on January 23, 2019:

Blairtracy, I am humbled by your peaceful response to what was a strong challenge from me. Here is what you should do:

1. Consider Christian dream interpretation a legitimate source of learning about dreaming. Myself, I have read a very broad spectrum in my research. It has helped me tremendously.

2. Pray anyway. The ancient wisemen tell us, “God loved us when we were yet sinners.” So, there is not a person on earth God does not love. He will answer even a non-believer. If you get stumped on a curious symbol or action or relationship or transition... Ask, “Holy God in Heaven above, what does this mean?” Don’t be amazed if by “chance” the meaning falls into your lap.

3. Move away from blanket-statement interpretations; avoid dream dictionaries.

4. Use reason and logic. The dream authors (I call them choreographers) have an intent to deliver a message. They will fashion dreams specific to individuals. So...

5. Consider the individual. What are their beliefs and biases? What is their family history? Some spirits follow family lines... via blessings or curses.

6. Understand that not all dreams are trustworthy. There are 3 sources: Kingdom of God, Kingdom of Satan, and Mind. Mind = the individual mind, another individual’s mind, and also the group mind. Minds are connected, and we can see another person’s worries and fears in a dream, we can dream another person’s dream. Someone else can enter another person’s dream (usually with an intention or obejective, so don’t invite anyone in! If they try, tell them to leave immediately, they are not welcome.)

7. Consider your own beliefs and biases in interpreting your own or another person’s dreams. They can slant interpretation. This is true for Christians and others as well.

I hope this helps. Definitely something to think about, no?

Tracy B (author) from Canada on January 22, 2019:

And for those who do not pray and do not believe in God?

Man from Modesto from Kiev, Ukraine (formerly Modesto, California) on January 22, 2019:

These interpretation suggestions reflect a complete lack of understanding the reality of dreams. This is why I have been teaching for 30 years: Do not use dream dictionaries. Pray. Interpretation belongs to God.

Tracy B (author) from Canada on January 22, 2019:

That's sounds like a very intense dream! It would be interesting to see what a professional dream interpreter would say about it.

Krys from Adeladie, Australia on January 10, 2019:

I have had a recurrent dream ever since i was about 7 (now 31).

I dream that a man with a chainsaw is chasing me and my family around our home. We always manage to evade him but one time he actually got my brother.

Last night dreamt about him again, however this time i was is a place i was unfamiliar with, with 3 people i didn't know however felt a strong sense of trust and love for them. One of these people ended up working with the killer, luring the 2nd person to their death. the 3rd person was running with me however was slowing me down and pulling me aside.

Tracy B (author) from Canada on November 19, 2018:

Oh my, Syra! That sounds like such an intense dream. It would be interesting to hear what a professional Dream Analyst would have to say about it!

Syra Rousse on November 01, 2018:

I dream a stranger. A girl reading or studying a book in the middle of a battlefield. Her parents are dead and she is now leading the army. I can hear her thoughts in her head. About her saying she didn't have enough time. That she should have told her mother that she was gay. But there was doubt in her voice, like she wasn't sure herself. Then it switches to ships crossing a vass ocean. Then some random mean kids watching two dolls fight. One doll they cheer for, the other they boo. But the one they cheer for always loses and they grumble about the doll always standing. I have no idea what any of this means.

I had a dream someone broke into the house came into my room and got in to my bed where I was sleeping next to a baby I'm guessing is mine,he raped and I was screaming but I guess not loud enough because no 1came to help me in the house.he tried to stop my palls or make me faint but it didn't work then he raped me using a knife(the baby was crying screaming when I looked at the baby the baby was a white baby and he or she was naked,I'm black)so he raped me usinf a knife turned the nigh up right and pulled it down ripping me into two.I soon realized that the person that's doing this is my bf I could tell from the 1st rap,I couldn't see him because he wore a black mask and clothes.the weird part is that non of that hurt in anyway because I felt as though nothing can compare to the pain I feel emotionally.all of a sudden there is this bright white light pepping into a little opening of my blankets so bright I had to look away half awake I litraly clore my nails into my tummy to feel pain and I woke up to see why it was so bright only to find no bright light and its 3:30 in the morning.this is my second rap dream last time it wasn't my bf.
