What is Anorexia Nervosa and Possible Causes?

Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder. People affected by the disease develop panic from having food. It is observed that the affected percentage is between 0.3-0.4 among young women and 0.1% among young men.

There are several hypothesis, actual reason is still unknown, however after observing the unusual food behavior various psychiatrists indicated some of the possible causes:

  1. Obsession with fat lose
  2. Obsession with self respect
  3. Obsession with appearance
  4. Exaggerated dieting
  5. Exaggerated physical exercises
  6. Emotional distress and mental instability
  7. Carrying low esteem and poor image

How is Anorexia Nervosa Developed?

Initially, persons become obedient followers of their dietitians or physical instructors and follow a stringent routine, gradually they are habituated to the atmosphere of a conservative lifestyle, everything is being seemed forbidden- not to eat this, not that much quantity, avoid to do this that etc.

Shading of few pounds makes them over-enthusiastic. Persons become adamant to shade more pound and gradually get into loop of stringent diets and gym system.

Since it is a disorder connected to biological, psychological and socio-cultural factors, their mental weakness makes them self centric and rigid. Their only aim becomes getting more weight reduction and they are never satisfied with their weight loss.

How are Anorexics Treated?

First of all anorexic can’t be cured by self as it is self created, affected person does not realize his / her abnormalities, rather he / she thinks others are doing wrong and his / her activities are normal and healthy.

An early detection can be curable by friends and own people through making them social. Else clinical therapy is needed.

Since this disorder is related to psychological, biological and sociological aspects, therapy is arranged according to the aspect which acts as major influencer.

Usually therapy never tries to convince the patient that his / her behavior is wrong, rather therapy tries to dig into patient’s mind to know the cause or the aspect responsible for extreme behavior and deviate patient’s mind from the cause by encouraging and engaging patient’s mind to somewhere else.

Practices to Follow to Overcome This Syndrome

In your Weight loss journey the following thought process, I believe will definitely help.

Often people become confused between overweight and obesity, in addition they are obsessed with physical appearance.

Overweight is not at all a problem as long as you are active and able to participate in natural physical activities- dancing in parties and doing household tasks, climbing staircases, playing with children. If you enjoy eating and drinking, can laugh loudly, sleep well, have clear bowl movement, just not to worry about weight.

Obsession with physical appearance is one of the most baseless matters in today’s world. Yes, personality, behavior, way of presentation and overall carrying oneself does matter. World, today evaluates you with your inner values, skills and intellect.

Obesity is genuinely an issue but in today’s world if it is addressed properly under guidance of healthcare professionals, weight control can easily be attained.

So, it is better if a person

  • can leave thinking too much about one’s weight
  • not too much conscious about diet
  • embrace natural activities
  • keep passion in art and culture
  • keep passion in socializing
  • knows how to enjoy with others

and laugh loudly.
