The Syndrome Behind Your Health Problems

You may not have heard about leaky gut, but what is the term "intestinal permeability" telling you?

That's right!

It's something very accesible, like an easy pass.

Basically, leaky gut is the disease you get when your gut allows unwanted substances, bacteria and undigested food particles enter your bloodstream and wreak havoc the body.

What happens next is the immune system gets activated which then causes chronic inflammation in the body and that is something that YOU SHOULD NOT WANT TO HAPPEN!

Symptoms of Leaky Gut

Signs that you are susceptible of intestinal permeability can be the following:

•bloating, constipation, diarrhea, gas

•allergies and food intolerances

•bad breath

•joint pain

•nutritional deficiencies

•chronic fatigue

•skin problems like eczema or rosacea

•weight loss difficulty or unexpected weight gain/ weight loss

If you have one or two of this health problems it is recommended to search for medical advice and start making lifestyle changes until it's too late.

There are also tests that can tell you if your symptoms are related to leaky gut and some of them are:

1.The lactulose and mannitol test

2.The blood zonulin test

3.Microbiome testing

I won't get into details with those tests but if you're interested in them there is a lot of information on the internet so feel free to search!

My opinion is that you should first look for the symptoms and signs I listed above before trying any leaky gut testing because those symptoms can be so clear that you just notice them right away so the testings would be a waste of money, and instead you can use the money in making the lifestyle changes needed for recovery.

What causes intestinal permeability?

Now that you know what leaky gut is and what symptoms to look for, you may ask yourself what causes the breaking of the tight junctions in your gut.

In the next paragraphs we will be discussing the main disruptors of gut health.

1. Foods that promote inflammation

In today's modern society, most of the people eat just to get some energy for doing their daily activities and they don't care about the quality of the food. They don't care if the food does more harm than good to the body, being stripped of nutrients, containing all kinds of chemicals, artificial sweetners and preservatives.

We're always in a hurry, choosing packaged foods or fast-food places, full of trans-fats, sugar and nutrient depleted instead of cooking our own meals with the foods that we know can give our body the nutrients it needs.

So what are the foods that cause inflammation in your gastrointestinal tract?

  • refined sugar and carbohydrates
  • gluten
  • wheat
  • soy
  • non-organic dairy
  • corn
  • lectins
  • alcohol

These are foods you should consume very carefully and even check to see if you're intolerant to them, especially when having gut issues.

2. Stress
I'm talking about chronic stress because it is a continuous battle that the body has to fight, usually resulting in a weakening of the immune system and a weak immune system means more chances of getting sick which means another stressor to the body and so the cycle of body damage continues endlessly.

3. Environmental pollution and toxins
Our bodies are being exposed to toxins every day and since we can't completely avoid these toxins, they can easily damage our guts.

Even if our body has a natural self-defense system against toxins we have to remember that it has a limit though.

Now that you know what leaky gut is, some methods of diagnosis and the causes that nourish it, I think you're interested in finding out the recovery process needed.
