Who Doesn't Remember Playing Paper Dolls as a Child?

Recently, I was describing to my daughter how I used to play with paper dolls and she was fascinated, wanting to know more. It didn't take long to find some printable paper dolls online and within a few minutes, we had ourselves a nice little collection and she was thrilled.

Bringing childhood memories to life can be a heart warming experience, especially if you have a daughter or other little girl in your life who would enjoy playing with paper dolls. Since you can print them off for free, it is something you could do this afternoon if you wanted! Seriously, I wish we'd had Internet when I was a child!

How Do Paper Dolls Work?

For the uninitiated, paper dolls come in their most basic form, naked or with just their underwear. You then cut out clothing for them and leave little tabs of paper at the shoulders, arms and legs. These are folded over the paper doll to hold the clothing on. It's a simple, yet effective way to change the doll's clothing as you wish.

When I was small, my mother would draw the dolls out on the backs of cereal boxes and then we'd cut them out. She drew simplistic figures, legs together, arms sticking out at a 45Â° angle. Then we would trace around them to make clothing on paper and add the tabs, then color the clothes. It was fun, relaxing and a great way to spend some time with Mom.

Today, you have a HUGE number of options in printable paper dolls, as well as store bought ones. I highly recommend printing the doll out on cardstock, if possible, or cutting it out and gluing the doll to cardboard. You can print the clothing on paper so it is easy to cut out and fold.

My daughter loved this site, since it has 10 pages of different dolls to print out. They're adorable and each comes with its own theme! The main problem is the fact that clothing is limited and not interchangeable between dolls.
