Good Smile Nendoroids Collectibles

Since 2006, the Good Smile Company has been producing adorably collectible Nendoroids toys and figurines. With overly large heads and small bodies, the cute figurines have become a favorite collectible for fans of anime, manga, and video games.

Unlike other collectible figurines, Nendoroids allows users to interchange body parts and faces, creating a fun option for collectors and toy enthusiasts. While historically the figurines have been focused on anime, manga, and video games, in recent years the company has released series that provide customers with characters from popular Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars properties.

1. Unique Specifications

To date, there are a total of about 1000 Nendoroids released, with new figures released every month. Nendoroids stand at about 4 inches high and feature large heads and small bodies. Nendoroids allow for users to evoke different emotions and stances by allowing users to exchange body parts and faceplates.

Figurines may also include items and weapons unique to characters, allowing users to recreate scenes from their favorite characters' storylines. Nendoroids allow for collectors to position, place, and customize their collection, a unique option that may not be possible in other collector lines.

2. Design Gets Better with Time

Since 2006 when the first Nendoroid, number ‘0’: Neko Arc from the game Tsukihim, was released the unique design has gone through many iterations as the artists’ made tweaks to the original design. In 2008 with the release of number ‘33’, Hatsune Miku, the artist’s implemented what is now the most recognizable version of Nendoroids. This was due in part to removing the one size fits all attitude and instead of approaching each design as unique to that character. According to Takanori Aki, Good Smile CEO, artists started to try and invoke the true essence of each character into the style of the toy.

The catalog has continued to expand, with new characters and series becoming available to collectors. In 2017 a line called Nendoroid Co-De allowed users to “dress up” their Nendoroids. While the figures remained static customers could swap out body parts with other Nendoroids and Co-De products.

Nendoroid Playsets are dioramas that users can place their figurines into. These playsets typically include a variety of different items that the Nendoroid character can pose with.

With interchangeable parts, additional items, and dioramas, Nendoroids allow collectors to play and customize their toys and even place figurines in their favorite scenes and positions.
