Jigsaw Puzzles For Adults are more than just a great hobby, they are fun, addictive, and stress relieving. One thing that you might not be aware of is that doing jigsaw puzzles regularly helps to keep the brain active and according to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, may contribute to reducing the risk of developing Alzheimer disease.

Jigsaw puzzles can be something you do by yourself or can be a family activity. In this lens I hope to introduce you to a number of different types of puzzles. Since, jigsaw puzzles range in size from 300 pieces to a 1000 and more and one of the largest commercial jigsaw puzzles for adults that I know of is a whopping 32,256 pieces.

I don't know about you, but doing a jigsaw puzzle of that size would keep me stress free for awhile. There are also three-dimensional jigsaw puzzles, some made of wood or styrofoam, some globe shaped and puzzles that the whole family can work at with different sizes of pieces. So at that, there is an endless variety of Jigsaw Puzzles For Adults available in today's market and I hope that you join me while I uncover some new puzzles for our family's holiday tradition.

There is no doubt that Jigsaw puzzles can be very addicting, find one piece that fits and you want to find more. For some crazy reason the adults in our family love doing jigsaw puzzles when we get together for holidays. I'm not sure how this tradition started but someone in the family will buy a difficult large jigsaw puzzle and everyone works at it.

We don't necessarily sit down and all work at it together at once. What happens is we have a special table set up just for the jigsaw puzzle, kind of a place of honor, as we chat and visit with each other it's hard not to try to find a piece of the puzzle that goes together. There is always one or two people at the jigsaw table. The jigsaw puzzle usually ends up being completed by the end of the evening.

At one family gathering there was a mix up and there was no new puzzle. It was really disappointing, so we ended up pulling out one of the old puzzles. It's kind of a nice family tradition, some what like playing board games which we do as well. The one difference is that you aren't stuck to the table, you mingle with guests and still come back to the puzzle.

When the evening is over and the puzzle is completed, we gather around the puzzle table and take pictures of our family and friends toasting the completion of another puzzle and another great get together. Now to find another puzzle that we can do when our family all gets together again.

Dusty2 LM on August 20, 2013:

@Dusty2 LM: Correction! Something just hit me. I didn't reread this comment before posting it and I need to make a correction. Instead of my Great, Great G-ma I used to sit down and put puzzles together with it was my Great G-ma instead. I have only seen my Great, Great G-ma in a few surviving pictures and the one I remember the most is the 5 Generation of Women for the family which included my cousin who is 2 months younger than me. Lucky her! Anyway, I hope you will excuse the error and glad it hit me that i referred to the wrong G-ma. Sorry!

Dusty2 LM on August 20, 2013:

Very nice lens that is well done with the selection of puzzles you have featured in this lens. Puzzles for us go back generations. I can remember sitting down with my Great, Great G-ma doing puzzles with her as a youngster before her passing. Needless to say, the love for puzzles reaches down to my grandkids now. I appreciate you sharing this awesome puzzle lens and bringing back some warm memories for all the times I put a puzzle together. Thank You for stopping by my Grilled-n-Stuffed Portobello Mushroom Burgers as I really appreciate it. Labor Day is close by so hope you will give them a try. Bon Appetit!

Elsie Hagley from New Zealand on January 12, 2013:

Love doing jigsaw puzzles usually 1000 piece ones. Must admit though since I have been on squidoo I don't find any spare time. Thanks for sharing. Blessed.

Judith Nazarewicz (author) from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on January 12, 2013:

@anonymous: Well, you know in 12 years you both will be challenging those 20,000 piece puzzles. :-)

Judith Nazarewicz (author) from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on January 12, 2013:

@anonymous: What a nice post! I was the only one at home when I was young so puzzles, drawing, and books were my friends. I always wished I had come from a large family. My kids also grew up on computerized toys and games but we always tried to spend at least one night a week doing puzzles or games or cards. :-)

anonymous on January 11, 2013:

I like jigsaw puzzles. When I was young it seemed like we always had some in the house. There was a puzzle of John Kennedy sitting at his desk in the oval office. As a child â to me, it looked like it had a million pieces. But I remember it took a united effort for us to put those pieces together over a period of months. I come from a large family and now I see the wisdom of my mother. Those jigsaw puzzles were cheap (quiet) fun! .Sadly, my kids grew up on computerized toys, games and gadgets.

anonymous on January 10, 2013:

I love jigsaw puzzles! Right now I'm having a lot of fun putting them together with my 2 year old son. We're sticking to the smaller ones, with 20 pieces.

NightMagic on January 10, 2013:

You're right, jigsaw puzzles are addicting. As much as I love putting them together, I can't imagine doing one with 32,256. I always do one every winter. It definitely is a good past time when there's nothing on T.V.

adelais lm on January 09, 2013:

These are great! Too bad I don't have the patience.

WriterJanis2 on January 08, 2013:

You have so many great choices here. Blessed!

audrey07 on January 08, 2013:

I have done a few 1,000-piece puzzles. The most challenging is one with a black and white picture. That took a long time to complete.

cmadden on December 30, 2012:

32,000 + pieces? Ouch! You have some wonderful puzzles here (aside from that one)!

kabbalah lm on December 30, 2012:

JuliaHidy on December 26, 2012:

Thanks for giving me a great idea to start doing puzzles again. I was searching for a recreational idea that would be stimulating yet relaxing and that would get me AWAY from my computer at the end of my day. Super lens!

Diana Grant from United Kingdom on December 23, 2012:

This is a beautiful lens.

Judith Nazarewicz (author) from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on December 08, 2012:

@Virginia Allain: Wow I never thought of that! That would make it quite difficult. It's nice to be able to share an activity with a parent no matter what age we are.

Virginia Allain from Central Florida on December 08, 2012:

My Dad and I liked working on jigsaw puzzles together. His grandmother used to work them in the nursing home and got bored with the same puzzles all the time, so she turned them over and worked the blank side.

WindyWintersHubs from Vancouver Island, BC on December 06, 2012:

My son loved doing puzzles when he was little. Puzzles make a great gift!

Chazz from New York on December 04, 2012:

You've assembled quite a tempting collection of puzzles here. I've loved Ravensburger puzzles since my now adult son was a tot and enoyed their kid-sized puzzles.
