About IMVU

IMVU is more of a 3D avatar chat than a virtual world, but it does have a lot of features of the latter. You can customize your avatar and 3D environments, buy special game currency, and create and sell virtual items. Every IMVU user gets his or her own homepage which they can modify to their liking. This social network has a lot of groups and "neighborhoods" (such as fantasy, goth, vampire and sci-fi) for people with similar interests to hang out and chat. IMVU has over 100 million members, and as much as 100,000 are online at all times.

You can also exchange IMVU currency for real money with 3rd party exchange services if you're a Creator who designs and sells items.

About Second Life

Second Life is a virtual world developed by Linden Lab. The members can interact with each other through their virtual avatars, participate in group activities and explore. You can create virtual objects using built-in 3D modeling software, and even program their behavior. Users are required to be at least 18 years of age to join. SL has a diverse international community with many interesting subcultures such as steampunk, neko, and medieval fantasy. Unlike in IMVU, there are no restrictions on avatar appearance - they don't have to look human at all.

Second Life currency is the Linden dollar; these are used for buying, selling or renting virtual property, and may be exchanged into real money.

Other Virtual Worlds

There are several sites similar to IMVU, and also some virtual worlds which share many features with Second Life, although none of them are as popular. If you're looking for an IMVU alternative you might want to check out There.com or Smeet.com. Second Life players who are looking for a new home online might want to try Kitely, Kaneva, or ActiveWorlds.

Second Life vs IMVU Poll

anonymous on April 06, 2015:

I tried Second Life once, never again. I didn't experience THAT bad of lag but it was quite a bit laggy whereas IMVU hardly ever lags me unless people are being assholes or something. (Which if you go to the right rooms, easily avoidable) The thing about it being for kids is because there are more teenagers on the site which how is that such a bad thing? as far as graphics go its more of a preference thing.

Second Life was more realistic which was why I hated it, IMVU still looks real but its idealized so the avatars aren't so dang ugly. If you like realistic Second Life is better graphics but I prefer IMVU in this department as well. Also people on IMVU are generally much more friendly, hardly anyone talked to me on second life the one day I was there because they were too busy flying over my freaking head. -_-

Anyway, you CAN move in imvu just not the same way 1: most avatars are animated and move around in place its not like your a statue or something geez, plus there are actions you can purchase in the store to do other movements like dancing or anything really. Also you don't technically have to pay for anything on IMVU, only downside is you need to sit through ads a lot to earn creds. Second life you start out with shit, you can't get shit really, when you do get shit you have to go through "unpacking" like wtf? you have to pretty much buy everything n imvu you only have to pay if you want more creds or like VIP membership or something.

And now the next issue, the noob stuff. If you do things right in the beginning people probs wont tell your a noob.

How not to be a "noob" if your new:

1: Don't be an ass and randomly slap or kick someone or something just because you want to check out the actions, its annoying that's why a lot of people are "noobs"

2: the "noob look" this is entirely avoidable!(I will explain after explaining the look a bit) The look is really when you just look retarded. if you get rid of your head you start with you will have a huge bobble head, looks stupid and everyone will think you are stupid walking around like this. So just use your original head?, ok?, okay. And then if you buy 3 simple things, a new top, bottom, and hair you will not look so noobish, trust me you should have enough left over to buy even more stuff than that.

you will get a total of 5,000 credits to begin just from going through the tutorial. Then 2,000 for just confirming your email so yeah you'll have enough not to mention starter "quests" there are plenty of ways to get creds. On SL no fuckin way they basically say pay or fuck you, that's how I feel.

Having played both.. and explored both.. I very much like Second Life better... with IMVU the cost to create is too high.. In second life the cost to create can be anywhere from free to maybe about 1$ usd.. and that just depends on what you are doing.. As a creator I mostly sell textures.. such as eyes for example.. it cost me only a few cents (usd equivalent) or like 10L$ and that 10L$ turned in to multiple hundreds of L$ .. On IMVU the price is much greater.. and last i was on there.. there wasn't a real user friendly way of testing your work.. In IMVU I believe i was able to upload my first creation for free.. but after that its too much.. They sure want to make sure you pay them a lot to use even your own creations which is crazy.. Second life even with mesh uploads i think I have only spent like 20L at the most on a mesh item i created.. which is very very small.. In IMVU you cant create a decent avatar without spending quite a bit.. while in second life you can create a decent avatar for free if your good at looking.. or for a couple hundred L$ which is like 2$.. as far as i have been able to tell with IMVU to get anything that looks decent your spending almost 1-2$ on every item.. so getting a decent avatar is a bit more costly there.. Needless to say it is a lot easier and cheaper for a creator to start on second life.. than it is with IMVU.. in my personal experience.. Some say second life characters are ugly.. well IMVU's defaults are ugly as well. . In second life the characters can be very appealing with some time and effort put in.. the same could probably be said about IMVU characters as well... however you will probably spend MORE money in IMVU to do it.. Second life though it kind of helps knowing someone already in SL.. cause they could show you all the sweet spots for freebies, promos, and awesome sales.. Some people in SL though are willing to take newbies under their wing and help them make a decent look to start out with.. just got to be brave enough to say something.. I have helped out many people.. also IMVU and SL are quite different in ideas though.. IMVU is just a chat room with 3D characters.. you don't really have an open world concept like you do with SL.. SL is supposed to be your dream "second" life world.. where you can have a sort of second chance and become what you might not have been able to become in real life.. IMVU again.. is a chat room.. and only really meant to be a chat room.. IMVU is also mainly used by kids and teens.. whereas second life is mostly adults from 18 up past 50+ So it really just depends on what you want.. also SL gives you chances to make in game currency by getting jobs there.. which can help you pay nothing on your avatar.. there isn't such things in IMVU .. or well last i played it anyway.. anyway again in a creator standpoint.. SL is king.. open world.. sandbox..more freedom.. cheaper uploads.. the ability to change L in to real money.. so there is an ability to bring in extra funds in to your real life household.. in both worlds tho.. they are only as ugly as you make them..

CalobrenaOmai on June 21, 2014:

Both have their pros and cons about them. I've played both but discovered if you don't have a fully decked out computing device then you might as well pass SL on by because you will run into loads of issues trying to run the game. The graphics for both are amazing but see that creating stuff is a little more straight forward on IMVU compared to SL. Yes there are youngsters that play SL but they are restricted to certain areas unless they find a way around those restrictions. Not sure how long I've been on IMVU but have enjoyed my experience on there has been nothing but amazing. I've bought a little bit of everything except for a special pass. Interesting poll though.

ambra-nichols on May 27, 2014:

Lets see I have been on Imvu for 6 years and SL for 2 and tbh I'm 20 and I love Imvu. SL is just too much time and effort. Oh and don't be using the N word. That is so disrespectful.

anonymous on August 05, 2013:

I don't even know what to say. IMVU just brainwashes you making you spend lots of money and wasting your time staring at a screen all day. Only reason why IMVU is more popular in votes are because of kids. I'm so tired of kids doing things they're not old enough to. I see no competition. I wasted so much time and money on IMVU. I feel sorry for the people who play it.

anonymous on July 13, 2013:

@anonymous: In regards to unpacking, the hoops are rather easy. But ya gotta know a thing. Sandboxes (used for building) or a few other places that you would learn about. Come see me anytime, I'll teach ya. If you are a buildier, you can make some good money, very competitive. But doable.

anonymous on June 27, 2013:

I downloaded SL today and I ended up uninstalling it today. Why? Well, I love how SL has a big community and their shop is big also, so I wanted to explore the program. Before I could do that, I had to shop for skins, clothes, etc. I love creating and decorating my avi and you don't have to pay for the stuff unlike imvu. However, before I could actually try on the skins and clothes I "bought," I had to unpack it, but unpacking them WAS SUCH A PAIN!!!!!!! Seriously, I don't understand why they can't just put it in my inventory without having me to jump through a lot of hoops. That's why I uninstalled SL on the same day <.<"

anonymous on December 11, 2012:

@anonymous: Your idea of secondlife is all wrong and that is ok IMVU is more of a game/social site...secondlife is not a game!...simply because linden dollars can be converted into real money many users make a lucrative living from secondlife...so there is a clear line between imvu and secondlife users...not a bad thing but I think it's highly misunderstood

anonymous on October 19, 2012:

Too easy. IMVU.

Great Lens!!! I had no idea so many people on squidoo were on imvu and sl. SWEET!!!...wonder if we're friends....

anonymous on September 25, 2012:

I have used both in the past. I just like IMVU more, it was much more simple and I was able to find people to talk with a lot easier. I Played SL for a while and I honestly could not get into. The graphics were not the best, and I did not see a way to earn money for free. Yes users can be rude but you find elietest everywhere you go. I read through the reviews and SL users were calling IMVU users 10 and 12 year olds. I bet I will get hate for saying this but can we all be mature and stop insulting each other over what someone likes?

anonymous on September 19, 2012:

@anonymous: Lol! have you actually tried secondlife? Secondlife has endless possibility it's amazing (assuming your computer is powerful enough to run it properly) and building is the main feature as well as one of the reasons SL is so great. Everything you can do in IMVU is possible in Secondlife, the learning curve just takes a bit more to get around that's all. If you would like to try a platform where the "Shit" you make is more then a prop try Secondlife.

Clubbing, sword fighting, fps shooter, rpg, chatroom, building, virtual pets, roleplay, scripting (LSL) and of course the ability to customize your avatar EXACTLY the way you want, these are just a few things possible in secondlife :3

IMVU is great don't get me wrong. You were just wrong to say you can't build or run your own club on secondlife.

anonymous on September 12, 2012:

@anonymous: Ok....why the hell are you guys arguing over personal choices? Just agree to disagree and stop being childish!

anonymous on September 12, 2012:

I don't need a SECOND LIFE, (pun intended). I prefer IMVU due to the simplicity and the fact that it's just a way to free yourself from real life...not create another. For those who rag on IMVU users, it's silly to me. We are ALL entitled to our own choices. I doesn't mean we don't have a life or can't afford it, we just prefer something a little less time consuming.

anonymous on September 09, 2012:

I'll have to go with IMVU, just because of how simple it is. Trying Second Life, I had no idea what was going on. They give no tutorial at all when you start, and they don't give you any money so you can start on your own avatar. Plus, the places tend to be to big for it's own good. Takes to long to load. I will give SL another chance, because I do see potential with it, but as for now I'm sticking with IMVU.

anonymous on September 02, 2012:

umm deff. second life. u can build pretty much anything you want and sell it. it jus take some getting use to but once you do its a blast. met the love of my life on there became my husband sl and rl. so i have to say sl thanks!! giggles..

anonymous on August 07, 2012:

There will always be those who will prefer their little BMX bike to a Harley Davidson, because they have not found the pedals on the harley :D

anonymous on August 07, 2012:

You can not compare IMVU and Second Life, these are two different things.

IMVU is an improved 3D Chat.

Second Life is a virtual world where opportunities seem endless.

IMVU is first easier because much more limited.

Second Life requires a longer period of adaptation, which is normal because its possibilities are much larger.

Would you compare a small automatic car to a space shuttle?

anonymous on August 02, 2012:

@anonymous: Nia, after you said that when you get membership on IMVU, they will change you name from having a Guest_ in front of it, it made me have something to say. Second life is way better because they don't make a stupid plan by putting a Guest_ in front of your fucking name. Second Life doesn't put nothing in your name. Once you sign up, you're okay to go. The reason why IMVU puts "GUEST_" in you name because they want you to buy a membership so you can remove that.

anonymous on August 02, 2012:

@anonymous: I agree with you Draycko about the part when you said that IMVU is advertised everywhere. Cause that's true. When i was on youtube, i just saw this IMVU advertisement on the side of my screen, and that's when i knew IMVU. It took me like a month of searching to find a game like Second Life on google.

anonymous on July 30, 2012:

i dont have a SL but now i think SL is beta cuz i know it might be hard as i heard but its better with the shopping cuz it has cheap and free stuff imvu doesnt but to me imvu isnt THAT cartoony and it has some adult stuff i mean like HAVE YOU SEEN ALL THE POSES so i say SL might be beta

IMVU has rude people they pick on the new comers. and in Second life WE HELP the new comers. and in IMVU there stuff is 300 or MORE just for sum damn HAIR. and in Second life ITS CHEAPER TO BUY L$ or wat u IMVU players like to call it CREDITS. all so SECOND LIFE is for ppl 16 and older SO WHAT??

and all so IMVU can change ur password FOR NO REASON thats y im done with IMVU TO MANY HACKERS!!!!! its so easy to HACK and Second life u can play that game for years WITHOUT BEING HACKED LIKE GAY ASS IMVU!!! SPENDING ALL UR MONEY ON IMVU AND U GET HACKED FUCK THAT SECOND LIFE FTW!!!!!!!

anonymous on May 30, 2012:

I'm going to say things of what i like about Second Life.

1) The first thing is that on second life, there are unlimited things you can get for free, (which are called freebies on SL). What you can get for free is clothes, shoes and accessories... mostly everything. Imvu doesn't have freebies. You have to buy everything with a currency called Credits. SL has lindens. If you're new to SL you're lucky. You don't need Lindens to get things. There are lots of places to get billion things for free.

What i like about IMVU is that their graphics are nice. IMVU is sex free, and i preffer that in IMVU then SL. SL has pervert problems. You're able to have sex on it, free of charge. Linden labs, ( the creator company of second life ) should have the opportunity to put the sex section in a membership process because little kids go on it. I prefer IMVU because it's appropriate, fun and just the great way to socialize with people.

anonymous on May 24, 2012:

the only people who use 3D chat programs are people who are mentally ill and people with no social skills. They are unable to function in real life so they waste their time and money in online fantasy worlds. you all need to turn your computers off and go get some mental health therapy, you all are pathetic.

anonymous on May 07, 2012:

anonymous on April 07, 2012:

@anonymous: Thank you!! Imvu most people get punished for no reason. But when you try and report something. They don't care. IMVU use to be so fun. But now it's just disgusting, Stupid, and unfair. That's why i went to second life. Just a few days ago i was on imvu and suddenly i got kicked out. I was disabled for 2 weeks, Punished for no reason.

anonymous on April 05, 2012:

@anonymous: AP it's credit card wise only. xD The only way a 12 year or 10 year old can get Ap is one: The parent gives the kid anything he or she wants. Or the parent's credit card or debit card was stolen by the child while his or her parent went somewhere for a second.

Most Adult features uses credit cards. Second life is more of an adult feature without using a credit card but do they do something about this? I bet not, but because maybe there's a lot of people on Imvu more because of it's ads and stuff. Kids will choose Imvu. You rarely see a SL advertisement.

I tried second life a few weeks ago, there avatars look cartoon like, as much as Imvu. It should not actually take you many years to get your character realistic/the style you want your avatar. Unless you quit 10 minutes or less and did not come back till a year later. It took me two days just to make my char the way I wanted on imvu. And she looks clearly realistic to me.

anonymous on April 04, 2012:

it dont matter where you go SL or IMVU your going to get perverts and stupid little kids whos highlight of the day is lying about their age and the jerkoff they may get from doing so. i say IMVU is pretty useless at doing anything about the many minors who get AP . they punish the wrong people they put lots of restrictions on what is AP and what is not. but do NOTHING to prevent kids from getting AP. its too easy for some over hormoned pimple faced kid to get AP. Vip is a rip off. they give you crapall for the money you pay a month. horrible crappy rooms for free noone would buy anyways if they were for sale and lame lame gifts for the holidays lol. they take your triggerless music so you have to buy theirs they take stuff from your inventory and give you the credit back maybe sometimes. their complaint system sucks. the avatars are very cartoonish i know this as i have spent tons of money for many years on my ruler avatar to make her look the way she is. but its always going to have that toon look no matter what i do. i went to secondlife and straight away perfered it

anonymous on March 21, 2012:

@anonymous: You can't prove me wrong without any proof that I need commas so shut the hell up and stop associating with me you retard.

And you are still talking to me because?

anonymous on March 21, 2012:

@anonymous: Again with pointing out my Minor spelling mistakes. Okay i shall do the same and throw your spelling mistakes back in your face, marking them with these -**- :3

Nia Mar 15, 2012 @ 1:43 pm - Also fix your punctuatcion and spelling. (how funny, you just contradicted yourself, its spelt "punctuation")

Nia Mar 16, 2012 @ 11:11 am - No place has all *competely* nice people so get your facts straight. I can't really judge Second Life but from what people have been telling me, Imvu is easier to deal with. They are legit, when you purchase from them, they give you YOUR credits. When you buy a name change, THEY GIVE YOU YOUR name change. The only problem with Imvu is the developers. They act like their shit don't stink and a lot of them think they are better than everyone else. Besides them a lot of them just come in chat rooms to start trouble. So no sweetheart I am not being childish, it's the truth. Stop -*juding*- a book by it's cover. (first one is spelt "completely" second word is spelt like this. "Judging")

Nia Mar 19, 2012 @ 11:04 am - You really need to think before you speak. When you said: "So yes, I have my fact straight from -*experince*-." Clearly, you need to fix your word order because that made no sense. It's : So yes, I have my facts straight from experience." :)

(when you tried to quote me you spelt "experience" wrong :P when I spelt it right in my comment. I did however forget the "S" in facts)

Your latest comment to me: nia Mar 20, 2012 @ 11:11 am - Not even there is more you can do than stare at your avatar and shopy you fucking idiot. Get a life and leave me alone because I DON'T CARE! (its spelt "Shopping" so please learn to spell xD"

Now why dont you look at that? - you make alot of mistakes, just like everyone else. I know my spelling is not perfect and I sometimes forget to add a fullstop or comma where they are needed. But you seem to think you never make mistakes. Like when you told that person on another commment to fix there punctuation?.. you too should do the same as you sometimes forget to add commas where they are needed.

My advice to you is give up on playing teacher.

And before you say "GET A LIFE" again since you seem so concerned about my bussiness. I do have one and its a good one. I just have enough time at the end of my day to reply to someone like you. ^,^

And im finding you entertaining since you try so hard to insult me.

Feel free to call me what you want :3

@anonymous: Late reply but I have to just get this out here, @Snowcrystal

I totally agree with you, With Imvu. Some of the "noobs' and "Guest_" Gets ignored by None guest or Vip members. But you do have to realize that not all Guest and Noobs are getting ignored by none "Guest or Vip players." I have been playing Imvu, since 2010. My real life friend has introduced me to Imvu she has been playing since 2009.

When I first started out, I wasi ntroduced to the turitorals and functions to start off with most 2k credits (I started off with 5k, because I did the free imvu credits, like likeing face book downloading the imvu tool bar, etc.) Once I got my avatar the way I wanted. I went into a chatroom and made at least made 10 or 8 friends who were a none guest or a vip.

Maybe that's because half of the noobs or guest on Imvu, Was actually nice! Most of them did not say every sentence in caps. They made more sense. But after or the middle of Agust (I think.) of 2010. Things changed for imvu, The noob avatars was upgraded. Your default "Big head." Was quietly gone, but none of the less they still looked ugly, but a bit better then before. I might as well say "Okay."

Since the noobie first starter avatar keeps upgrading more. Imvu will have more asses/trolls joining Imvu everyday, especially in the chats I been into to. Now, I became a vip by my friend who quitted a year ago, so my "Guest_" tag name is gone. Even if you be a none "Guest_" on the first day you join Imvu. You can still be treated as a noob or qualified as one. It's how the way you act and dress on the game. Not saying that you cannot dress the way you wish, it just that if you are dressed up in your free "default" clothes you are still classified as a noob.

My boyfriend is a vip, he age vertified, has his own room. Noobs and "Guests_" are allowed into his room. He does not mind them being in there, in fact he thought the ones who were not none guest or Vips were just being plain up stuck ups. But after almost whole year, My boyfriend got actually "fed up." With the "noobs" and "guest_."

Why was this? Well, almost every "Noob" Or "Guest_" that spawns into the chat room. They stay there for like 10 minutes or 10 seconds. Everyone says hi to the "Guest_" or "Noob" That "Noob/Guest_" Does not say anything, they just go to one spot to another then after that. "Poof!" They are gone just like that. Rather rude isn't it?

Second reason: When a "Noob/Guest_" comes in a public chatroom they mostly talk about their drama, trying to find a boyfriend/girlfriend. Randomly hugging & kissing or, attacking a none guest or another noob. Some of them come into the chat just to troll like saying "ALL OF U SUCK!, LOOK AT DIZ UGLY BITCH, WHO WANTS TO HAVE SEX WITH ME?!"

This is mostly what make most of us none guest_/Vips. Not likeing the noobs or guest_ much. I use to like noobs and none guest very much. I always asked myself why do none guest and vips be so mean to noobies/Guest_? After the end of 2010 and the middle of 2011 I finally found out why.

Each chat I went into. A noob or none guest hits on me. Then the noob/guest_ invites me into a private wanting to have sex. There are times when the noobs/Guest_ players, randomly kisses or attacks me or other none guest_ players who are just simply minding there own business. Most noobs are guests. So most of us None Guest_/vips, Actually lost all respect for noobs & None Guest_.

I cannot blame them, I have not lost ALL my respect for noobs and None guest_ There are some I can actually hang out with. But Majority of noobs are Guest_. Those Guest_ harasses/trolls others. That one last noob/Guest_ Ruined it for all Noobs/Guest_ making the none guest/vip be harsh and cold towards the.

Even with none guest_ You can still be booted out of a room automactically, or be ignored if it's your first day in imvu. This all depends on what chats you go to, and at what time.

For this, all I am saying if you dress like a noob. Act like a noob with or without guest_ even if it's your first day on imvu, do not have the guest_tagline, and actually have common sense. You will still be treated/classified as a noob depending on which chats the player goes to.

Why? Like all the things you said "In IMVU, you are more likely to meet underage prepubescent kids who want nothing more than to attack your avatar or "have sex" with it, while constantly "attacking/kissing/hugging" you, which can only be blocked by VIP. The lack of intelligence from most of these people is rather appalling." This is mostly 80% answer of why vips and None veteran None guest do not like Guest_ and noobs. Most of them act like "underage prepubescent kids."

I just had to put my thought of imvu. I am not saying you are wrong. Because, you are not. But you are not 98% right as well. This reply is likely not 100% right as well. But I just putting up my experince with Imvu. I tried second life, but it is just not that kind of game for me. Just like Imvu may not be the type a game for you. We all have our opinions about stuff like this.

@anonymous: "I found it funny that you got so offended with me stating SLs name change is free. Yes its free and ill say it again if I so wish. Not everything is free but some things are what?.. surprized? :o LOL" Fix your spelling please. "When and if you reply to this try not to use the "Deluded" line because you will only embaarass yourself. Even correcting someone for making a typo makes you look somewhat desperate to hurt someones pride, everyone makes mistakes :/ " Once again fix your spelling. You are annoying and you actually did that on purpose because you really can't spell.

Why are you still talking to me after I said to piss off? You are annoying so leave me alone. "You yourself said you sometimes visit SL because IMVU can get boring.. im assuming because there was no one to talk to and nothing interesting to do but stare at your avatar or shop?" Not even there is more you can do than stare at your avatar and shopy you fucking idiot. Get a life and leave me alone because I DON'T CARE!

anonymous on March 20, 2012:

@anonymous: And before you say anything. Yes I made typo on my last comment as well Nia and i'm sorry I didn't notice my mistakes till after posting. I hope its not too hard for you to understand ;P

anonymous on March 20, 2012:

@anonymous: Now your calling me deluded and your correcting me on a minor typo - thank you, you must be very proud.. But wait a second?.. it must have made sense if you could not only understand it, but correct it for me aswell? LOL, pushing that failed attempt at trying to anger or upset me to the side.. Il'l say this yet again.. I did not say Secondlife is better - i said it was my PERSONAL" preference.

And to settle your "judging a book by its cover" comment - for your information I found IMVU before secondlife. I spent my free time when things were dull in RL on IMVU before moving on to SL. Though a short while later after finding SL I moved back to IMVU because my old shitty PC was not able to run SL properly.

Thats when I decided to pay monthly memborship on IMVU. The times I had were fun chatting with my online buddies a good time waster for sure. but I wont lie when I say I felt limited not being able to walk around or play with my cool over the top powers and weapons that I had in SL.

You bringing up that most of comments are SL users saying its better then IMVU - Umm? why does that matter again? I dont remember saying anything specifically about IMVU users hating on SL. I said there are just as many On either side. It doesnt matter to me at all REALLY how many more comments say SL is better then IMVU or IMVU is better then SL. Thats what the poll is here for.

SL is currently 45.5 and IMVU 54.5 which im sure you can plainly see "darling".

Now reading peoples comments on why they like one over the other is fun. Some like SL's complexity well some people prefer IMVUs simple and easy to learn layout over SL.

I enjoy reading comments like that and thats why I googled IMVU vs SL.

I dont know your reasons for liking IMVU more then SL but im sure its a valid one, wether the reason is simply because you have more friends there, or you like many others prefer the simple layout.

however I find it silly when someone from a side says something like

"SL has mean people. the nice people are on IMVU so go there" (<<--example)

judging a whole communitty becuse of one or two bad apples is unfair in my view.

I found it funny that you got so offended with me stating SLs name change is free. Yes its free and ill say it again if I so wish. Not everything is free but some things are what?.. surprized? :o LOL

Then you had to go and say IMVU is not cheap, lol. Now why does that even matter? SL is not cheap either, im guilty of sometimes splashing more then I should, when I was using IMVU lots and if I was feeling lazy and didnt feel like earning my creds on MYB id splash some of my cash on something cool looking. (Thats if i already spent my 5000 monthly pay from being a member)

AGAIN! Just to make myself clear because you cant seem to grasp it no matter how many times I say it.

Secondlife is my preference! - IMVU is a great program I just prefer SL.. SL can do everything that IMVU can and more! You yourself said you sometimes visit SL because IMVU can get boring.. im assuming because there was no one to talk to and nothing interesting to do but stare at your avatar or shop?

Another thing about SL that I enjoy is being able to create a giant building and then being able to actually walk around in it.

When and if you reply to this try not to use the "Deluded" line because you will only embaarass yourself. Even correcting someone for making a typo makes you look somewhat desperate to hurt someones pride, everyone makes mistakes :/

anonymous on March 19, 2012:

@anonymous: Actually most of these comments are saying SecondLife is better darling. So what are you talking about? You obviously need to re-read what I wrote. I said "YOU NEED TO EXPAND OUTSIDE OF SECONDLIFE". How many fucking times do I have to say it? You insult Imvu People just as much as you do to SecondLife people so how am I disagreeing? You really need to think before you speak. When you said: "So yes, I have my fact straight from experince." Clearly, you need to fix your word order because that made no sense. It's : So yes, I have my facts straight from experience." :) I'm not arguing with a deluded person so goodbye and enjoy your time on SecondLife. Nothing in life is for free so stop stating that just name change is free so it's pretty cool. People on Imvu spend a lot more money on Imvu and isn't cheap. You can say SecondLife is SO much better but actually it's not. You haven't spent enough time on Imvu, there for you are judging it by it's cover!

anonymous on March 19, 2012:

It's not a fair comparison, the services have little in common. IMVU is like a bicycle, simple and easy to use and Second Life is more like a car, complex and powerful and takes more skill. This is why you will always have people who prefer a Schwinn to a Chevy. Now, which is better depends on where you are going.

anonymous on March 16, 2012:

@anonymous: Forgot to add a reply to your comment

"They are legit, when you purchase from them, they give you YOUR credits. When you buy a name change, THEY GIVE YOU YOUR name change."

How is that different from SL. they give you your linden as soon as you buy them as well. The name change is slightly different in SL, they call em Display names since you keep your username, but the name that hovers above your head that others see changes. Display name change is free so thats pretty cool too. The secondlife Online Marketplace can sometimes be a little slow with delivering products but thats because the SL marketplace is not inbuilt into the Viewer like IMVU has. Sometimes it even glitches (which is very rare) and doesn't deliver at all. In which case the marketplace refunds your money. Buying inworld from a vendor is no risk though.

anonymous on March 16, 2012:

@anonymous: Also IMVU is easier to deal with because there isnt as much you can do on IMVU that there is on SL. IMVU is good fun for a chat and so is SL difference is you have to look on SL where as IMVU has chatrooms that arent hard to find at all.

anonymous on March 16, 2012:

@anonymous: Umm, have you been reading any of my comments "Sweety" I used to pay monthly for IMVU and SL is not the only platform i enjoy spending my freetime on, all i stated was my preference in which i prefer. If you look through some of my older posts you will notice I say

" neither platform is guilty of having worse people then the other and that you can run into the same type of people on either depending on your luck and where you go.. whether it be someone perverted, just plain rude or even someone trying to trick people into believing that they are older then they really are to get.. you know? *cough*"

Also you saying i should get a life outside Secondlife makes no sense, well you sit there commenting back on me assuming im insulting IMVU users. Perhaps you could do the same with IMVU, even though you have said you played SL. You must have missed the part where i said I used to pay monthly for IMVU. So yes, i have my fact straight from experience.

P.S i see just as many comments insulting SL as there are rude comments about IMVU.

anonymous on March 16, 2012:

@anonymous: I don't understand a word you are saying. Dude, how am I childish when most of the comments are insulting people on Imvu. Saying that their either rude or stupid. You really need to get a life outside of Second Life and look more into other gaming sites. People are just as rude on either other websites. You stay too much on Second Life. I like Second Life but I hate the fact that I have to allow them to save changes to my computer before downloading it. No place has all competely nice people so get your facts straight. Stop juding a book by it's cover.

anonymous on March 15, 2012:

@anonymous: I agree with you about half of what you said Nia. Your completely right about the 12 year olds trying to have ingame sex on Secondlife just like IMVU and that the avatars dont all look the same on IMVU.. i agree with your there totaly.

I was a little confused though, when you said IMVU is better but you use Secondlife as a result of IMVU being boring, but still you call SL a shitty ass platform and then insult those that prefer it by saying they must be possessed by a retard ghost.. I found that.. childish?

oh and my reply to this comment *Points down*

"More people go on Imvu and if you would have asked about Second Life no one would know what your talking about"

there is a reason why secondlife is not as well known as IMVU and its not because IMVU is better or has more to offer. The reason IMVU is so well known compared to SL is that IMVU is advertised EVERYWHERE! seriously its not unusual for me to come across a IMVU ad at least once or twice within a hour well browsing the internet, compared to SL that has little to no advertising at all.

My preference is Secondlife because I can make my avatar look EXACTLY the way I want. I used to pay monthly membership on IMVU and never could get my avatar to look exactly the way i wanted or even to do the awesome things id have liked him to do. IMVU is just a chatroom with a few extras, nothing more.

anonymous on March 15, 2012:

@anonymous: You are obviously retarded. Their are 12 year olds on Second Life too trying to have sex so get YOUR facts straight. Imvu is alot better than shitty ass Second Life. I only use Second Life as a result of Imvu being boring. More people go on Imvu and if you would have asked about Second Life no one would know what you are talking about. You are clearly deluded and need to fix your spelling smart ass. Also fix your punctuatcion and spelling. Not everyone looks alike on Imvu you fucking idiot. That's just the noobs so quit making biased judgements because everyone who thinks Second Life is better clearly have been possessed by a retarded ghost. Lmao.

anonymous on March 15, 2012:

@anonymous: Also you dont have to give money to help a newbie. Simply pointing someone in the right direction is a big help.

anonymous on March 14, 2012:

@anonymous: Are you replying to me Alexandra? I have to ask because i don't know how Squidoo's replies work lol. But just in case. I did not refer to IMVU or SL being a person, i was referring to the people that use them. I was pointing out that neither platform is guilty of having worse people then the other and that you can run into the same type of people on either depending on your luck and where you go.. whether it be someone perverted, just plain rude or even someone trying to trick people into believing that they are older then they really are to get.. you know? *cough* But anyway.. I have ran into all types of assholes on IMVU and SL so i don't believe its fair to say one is better because the other has more "assholes, perverted or childish people " then the other. I do however agree 100% with the scamming thing though since I have experienced the same thing on both.

Though on SL I lost a mere 10 linden but still you would think with that act of kindness you would get atleast a thank you right? ... So now I only help close friends when it comes to that sort of thing but even then its rare..

Sidenotes: I think IMVU is good in a way because its extremely easy to grasp and doesn't take much time at all to learn how everything works. But for me personally its just too simple and with all the time i put into my avatar he still wasn't exactly the way I wanted him to be. (I tried to make my avatar a furry but found the IMVU furs.. not exactly to my liking, so i settled for Neko. Still looked awesome though, just not the way i wanted.)

Now SL I prefer personally because I can do what I choose and there is more I can do to make my avatar an individual and exactly the way i want. I think people stray from Secondlife because it does take time to learn the important things. but if you have a good PC that can handle the program and the patience to learn you will find there is a lot that SL has to offer and better avatar then those crap newbie avatar you are given when you first sign up..

anonymous on March 14, 2012:

@anonymous: I don't agree with you 100% nor agreeing that IMVU doesn't have nice people.Your statement in you first sentences or so,didn't make sense to me because Second Life isn't a person nor is IMVU.So,you mean the people are nice there. But,that is true 50% because, the user's are mature.I have to say, people have asked me to help them out a little by lending credits. When I did, they told me,and I quote"bye bitch, thnx."After that,I never helped a single soul. But,it is hard to trust anyone on IMVU,someone is always trying to scam you.

anonymous on March 14, 2012:

@anonymous: That's true but people 12 and up can be on IMVU.I just hate the picture stealer's(Highly annyoing).

anonymous on March 14, 2012:

IMVU is just so much better and the quality is amazing. The role play is so much fun,I attend many Bad Girl Clubs. You have to join, the clothes and voiceboxes are just awesome.

anonymous on March 13, 2012:

imvu is way better second life is so slow and boring imvu have hacks and second life not in internet are many informations about imvu and about second life not in one word IMVU

anonymous on March 11, 2012:

secondlife just because imvu makes my computer slow :D

anonymous on March 08, 2012:

sl might have pervert problems, but imvu has prepubescent children, or pic stealers, and they also have 12 year old kids lying about their age just to have ingame sex with someone older.. haha.

get your facts correctly before you make a biased judgement, i used to have an imvu account. everyone looked alike, same avatar, skin, head, etc. completely no sense of individuality. lolol.

anonymous on March 06, 2012:

You know what I have noticed from most the comments here? - Alot of comments say something about either "SL" or "IMVU" having Nasty, rude or mean people.. and depending on ones preference with which platform that prefer, they say something like

"Secondlife/IMVU sucks! It's full of sex maniacs, childish over bloated ego heads and no one wants to help you when your the new person. (furry/vampire/lycan..yah o,o). IMVU/Secondlife is better and is more friendly."

Well, you know what i think?.. That's complete bullcrap lol. You get sex maniacs and childish over bloated ego heads on either platform it doesn't matter.

Nice people do not migrate from one platform to the other well the mean people stay on the other side.

You poor people that so happened to get unlucky in finding someone rude should not judge the entire Virtual community based on something silly like that.

Also SL wins hands down in graphics and avatar appearance, most of you IMVU fanatics fail to realize that in SL, If you have the time and know how, can make your avatar look exactly like a IMVU avatar if they so chose too. I will agree the graphics suck if you have the graphics on there lowest setting, but with a high end PC with everything on high with Shadows enabled SL looks amazing compared to IMVU. Though you can get annoying and horrid lag in SL but with the amount of freedom in the things you can do, how can anyone expect it to be perfect.

Now for the toys and fun gadgets, I love my anime so I rigged my SL avatar to have the abilities from all my fave anime like DBZ, bleach, Etc.. I did the same in IMVU too with bleach. When I compare the effects from both platforms.. SL wins..

Now, now before you guys start calling me a SL fanboy that is not the case, I have a IMVU account, I used to pay monthly membership so I dont hate it, but its so simplistic and only fun when you have someone to speak with - when its quiet.. I get bored, but when its quiet in SL I TP off someplace and play with my gadgets to satisfy and cure myself of boredom. xD oh?! and if you prefer not to spend RL money in SL you can find decent freebie toys too if you look well enough. IMVU is very limited in most everything you do. But again its a awesome place to be if you can find good conversation.
