Dragon's Dogma A Fortress Besieged Quest

In Dragon's Dogma, the hero finally reaches the Shadow Fort. Outside the gate of the shadow fort, the hero and party speak with Ser Robert and learn that the fort is still full of goblins. The hero must defeat the goblins inside, open the gate of the fort and secure the fort. This is the A Fortress Besieged Quest. This will guide the hero and his party in finding the lever to open the gate of the fort, devising tactics to defeat the cyclops within the fort, rallying the troops to defeat the goblins, opening the other gate and defeating the goblin chieftain to secure the fort and complete the Stone of the Southwest quest.

Dragon's Dogma Find the Lever to Open the Main Gate

Ser Robert will instruct the hero to enter a hole in the ground. This will lead the hero and party to the interior of the fort. From there, the hero must fight lots of goblins and hobgoblisn and reach the fort's compound. Before proceeding, it is vital for the hero to have the following healing potions or spells -

  • healing potions such as Harpuds Sauce (the healing spell Aerodyne can only heal so often within a fixed period of time).
  • smother sap - to douse fire damaging effects on the hero and his pawns.
  • helium spell - this will negate negative effects such as continuous fire damage on the hero.

Either purchase these spells and potions at the rest camps, the Union Inn at fountain square in Gran Soren or pick up the potions along the way to completing the fortress besieged quest.

Once the hero exits from the room that contains the exit from the hole, the hero will see a ladder that leads to the fortress's higher battlegrounds. Climb up, defeat the goblins and hobgoblins and look around. The hero will find three things -

  • a switch box without a lever.
  • a catapult crossbow weapon.
  • lots of fireballs being pelted at the hero from afar.

Throughout this quest, the hero needs to dodge the fireballs by running and hiding behind barriers and walls. The hero can use the catapult crossbow to defeat the goblins, but it may be too much with the fireballs raging all around the battlefield.

Descend the ladder go through a stone archway and survey the fort compound. Notice that there is a gate on the left side of the compound. The hero can find the lever beyond this gate. However, there is the small matter of two cyclops (and lots of fireballs) which stand guard on-route to the gate.

Dragon's Dogma Get the Lever from the Station Room

Once the two cyclops are defeated, one can either defeat the goblins in the shadow fort main compound, or just ignore them and make a run up the ladder on the north wall of the room with the locked gate. The hero must be fast here; otherwise the fireballs will hit the hero and smash him onto ground level again. Reach the roof of the station room and jump down immediately. Go beyond the reach of the fireballs by immediately entering the inner chambers of the station room. The hero will recognize the inner chambers of the station room because there are lots of jail cells here....... and more goblins and hobgoblins. This area is small and confined. Fast action is needed against the hobgoblins before they attack. Launch mass fire spells at them and defeat them before they can make a move. Now head to the furthest jail room (on the right) and get the lever.

With the lever, run back to the small compound and head up the ladder. Dodge the fireballs, and reinsert the lever into empty switch box and open the outer gate of the fortress to let Ser Robert and his troops into the compound.

Dragon's Dogma Protect Ser Robert and Rally His Troops

The next stage of the fortress besieged quest involves protecting Ser Robert and then rallying his troops. Stick around Ser Robert but stay behind walls and barriers to protect against the fireballs. The goblins that Ser Rober and his troops engage are easily defeated, as long as the hero gets his fighters to distract the goblins and do not attack the goblins full on. Use mass fire spells for fast and easy victories here.

Ser Robert's health will deteriorate due to attacks from the goblins and the fireballs. Use Aerodyne to heal his health. If Ser Robert dies, then his troops will run away and this quest will be tagged as a failure. Once enough goblins have been defeated, the Ser Robert remains alive, then his troops will rally and this part of the quest "Rout the Goblins" will be completed.

Dragon's Dogma Find the Goblin Chieftain

The final stage of the fortress besieged quest involves finding and then driving away the goblin chieftain. When Ser Robert and his troops rally against the goblins, the final gate of the fortress will be opened. Defeat more goblins, head inside and (you guess it) defeat more goblins. Head up the first set of stairs and find the third cyclops. Run past the bridge, and find the second set of stairs. Run down the second set of stairs and find more hobgoblins. Run past or defeat them and finally reach the doors of the antechamber where the goblin commander or the goblin chieftain is located. Survive this fight against the goblin chieftain and then speak to Ser Robert. Be rewarded with lots of treasure, including the ferrystone (one use only). The ferrystone will spirit the hero back to Gran Soren.

Congratulations! The fortress besieged quest is finally completed.
