About Disney's Animators Collection

When the Disney Animators' Collection first emerged the line featured 10 Disney Princess dolls: Jasmine, Pocahontas, Tiana, Belle, Mulan, Ariel, Rapunzel, Aurora, Snow White and Cinderella. Two of Disney's top animators, Mark Henn and Glen Keane, designed these dolls to reflect what the animated characters would look like as toddlers. These dolls stand 16 inches tall and are usually paired with a plush friend.

Eventually more character dolls were added to the Animators Collection; including Merida from Brave and Tinker Bell. In 2014 Queen Elsa and Princess Anna became part of the collection. Disney paired these royal sisters with the loveable Kristoff. This marks the first time a male character has been introduced to the line. Perhaps we can look forward to seeing more male characters appear in the line in the future.

Pocahontas Special Addition vs Pocahontas First Appearance - Animators Collection

New Special Addition Animators Collection - Pocahontas

We have the original animators collection Pocahontas at home; though now the doll's hair is not so sleek and her necklace is missing.

The difference between our doll and the new special addition seems to be the doll's costume and it's electronic light show.

In the special addition version the leaves seem to fall along the dress. In addition to the dress the doll has moccasins and a cape. She also has a braided headband with a feather attached.

I wish the earlier version came with the headband and the shoes, but I am not sure the light up dress would be enough for me to pick up this version. On the other hand, if you don't have this particular character and this is going to a young child then you cannot go wrong with the doll.

2019 Disney Villain Animator Collection Dolls

Embracing Evil - Maleficent and Ursula as Toddlers

in 2019 Disney expanded their animator collection with limited edition Maleficent and Ursula dolls. These two villainous characters were redesigned to look like adorable creepy toddlers. I hope they continue to add other villainous characters to the line up. Who wouldn't want to see a toddler Queen of Hearts or a Mother Gothel?

Aladdin Doll Review

2015 Aladdin Becomes a Member of Animators Series

Disney has released an Aladdin doll as part of the Animators Collection. This is the second male doll released in the collection. The first male doll released in 2014 was Kristoff based on the character from the Frozen movie. Like Kristoff, the Aladdin doll features sculpted hair.

Another addition to the Animators Collection is a mini doll set featuring the Animators dolls in a 5 inch size. This collection features 15 dolls previously released in the series. This collection does not include a likeness of the new Aladdin doll.

Frozen Kristoff 16" Doll

I recently purchased Kristoff from the Disney store in my area. He is to be a Christmas gift for my niece how already has many Disney Animator dolls. She really did not need Elsa or Anna as she already had the My First Disney Princess version of the two sisters; though, admittedly I prefer the animators version of Anna and Elsa.

What is unique about Kristoff is that he is the first male doll introduced to the princess doll line. His hair is sculpted plastic rather than the synthetic hair the Princess dolls.

I love how they reimagined toddler Kristoff from his face down to the details of his embroidered collar. When I picked up the mountaineer I did not realize he came with a plush figure like the rest of the dolls in the Disney Animators' Collection doll. I am excited to learn that Kristoff comes with his pal Sven. The reindeer is plush with embroidered details.

Animators Behind the Frozen Dolls

There are three Disney Animators who were involved with designing Kristoff, Anna and Elsa; they include, Bill Schwab, Tony Smeed and Jin Kim. Each of these animators worked on the animated film Frozen. Schwab was the character design supervisor for the film. Smeed was the animator supervisor for Frozen and Kim was an integral part in bringing the characters to the big screen.

Merida - 16" Brave Merida Doll

The Disney Store has produced a Princess Merida doll based on the film Brave. The Animator Merida doll sits 16" tall. It has similar features of the current Disney Animators Collection. That is to say, the toddler princess doll has imagination, big expressive eyes and humor.

The dolls design was influenced by Matt Nolte who worked as the art director on the Disney Pixar film Brave.

About These Disney Toddler Dolls

Disney Animators Collection Dolls

From the animators who brought us some of our favorite Disney Princesses to the silver screen comes the Disney Animators' Collection. The creation of the doll collection was over seen by Mark Henn and Glen Keane. It is their interpretations of what our favorite Princesses would look like as a toddlers. These dolls are cute, high in demand, and come in a view able collector's box decorated with animated sketches by the animators. Each doll is sold separately and comes with a plush embroidered friend. These Disney Princess dolls are based on characters from top animated Disney movies. What makes them unique are the thought and details that can be seen in their faces. Dolls are for ages 3+.

Pick Your Favorite Doll - Who caught your eye?

Snow White, Pocahontas, Ariel, Cinderella & Jasmine

I know a little girl who is luckily to own all of these five Disney Princesses. The latest one she received is Cinderella. She is now covered in pixie dust as my niece decorated her for her marriage to Prince Charming (yes, Charming is sparkling too). Cinderella is her favorite of the doll right now and receives the most play. She enjoys chasing me (her aunt) around with Cinderella's plush friend Jaq because Auntie does not like mice.

My personal favorite is Snow White. Her short curls coupled with her expression is adorable.

Aurora, Mulan & Tiana

All of these Disney Princesses are beautiful but if I had to choose I would pick Mulan. I love the pig tails, detailed face and cute pink outfit with shoes. It could be just me but she always seems sad to me and I always want to give her a hug.

Belle Disney Animators Collection Doll

Belle Disney Animators Collection Doll

Belle & Rapunzel

Belle and Rapunzel are the two dolls of the collection that we do not have. Instead my niece has the My First Disney Princess versions of these dolls; though, she has been eying up the blue dress Belle lately.

Belle has undergone a costume change since the collection of dolls was first released. The adorable blue and white dress has been replaced with a gold organza dress which reminds collectors of the iconic one the character wore in the movie when dancing with Beast.

When the two dresses are compared I prefer the demure blue and white one which would seem to suit a younger Belle living with her inventor father. What do you think?

Beautiful Disney Princess toddler dolls, they are all so cute.

anonymous on April 27, 2012:

I have all 10! They just came out with a Merida one, but she's not an official "Animator's Collection" doll, since she's Pixar and not specifically Disney. She matches the set, however, because she's a 16" doll made in the same style.

My favourite Princess is Snow White, but this Belle doll is just so cute!

@anonymous: I was going to try to fiddle around with patterns for American Girl dolls. The bodice will probably need taken in, but it's a start. Shoes shouldn't be hard to make from AG patterns either. They might need enlarged.

I would like to be able to buy extra clothes and especially shoes for these dolls. My granddaughters have Ariel and Rapunzel. Neither came with shoes. I'm looking at patterns that I can adjust to make clothes for them but they definitely need some shoes. Any ideas?

My daughter received the Ariel doll for Christmas. She LOVES this doll. It has become her favorite toy. I purchased a "My First Disney Princess" outfit from ToysRUs. It is a little snug but it does fit. I hope this helps all the little princesses that want to dress up their new doll.
