Why Are Styling Heads So Popular?
Was your favourite toy when you were a kid your dolls styling head? Did you spend hours carefully applying the makeup and creating revolutionary new hair styles only to take it all off and start again? If so you are not alone and styling heads for girls are still popular toys, only they are even bigger and better, with lots more cosmetics to apply, lots more hair styling tools to use and plenty of those all so important trendy accessories.
But why are dolls styling heads so loved by little girls? I think that part of it is that children learn by imitation. Kids see their Moms doing their hair and putting on their makeup everyday and so they want to make themselves and their dolls beautiful and learn how to use all of those glamorous cosmetics and styling products. Little girls love makeup, jewelry and dressing up and so a styling head doll provides with them hours of fun and also encourages their creativity, as they create wonderful hair styles and fashionable makeup looks.
Styling heads make the perfect gift for birthdays or Christmas for any little girl who loves style and fashion. And with the wide range of styling heads available today you are almost bound to find your child’s favourite doll character has a styling head in their product range. So what are the best makeup and hairstyling head for girls that you can buy today?
Frozen Toy Styling Heads
There are many famous, beloved Disney Princesses, but the arrival of Elsa and Anna from Frozen has eclipsed them all. Of course such a successful film has created a huge market for merchandising and other film-related products, so if your little girl is a huge fan you can now find both Elsa and Anna toy styling head for that special gift.
Both of them come with a tiara and everything you need to create beautiful, innovative hairstyles such as a brush, barettes and ribbon. These toys are all about the hair, so there is no make-up or cosmetics included, and they are not suitable for small children under three years old. But on the plus side, the hair accessories have been designed so that your daughter and her friends can also style themselves to look like their favourite Frozen character and finally find out what it feels like to wear a tiara!
Rapunzel Styling Heads
Rapunzel is also one of the latest Disney Princess to hit the big screen, and as she is famous for her very, very long hair; she is the perfect Princess for a hairstyling head for girls! Disney markets the Tangled Rapunzel Styling head, which is a beautiful portrait of Rapunzel with her signature lilac dress, wide-eyed smile and flowing golden locks. The styling head comes with that all important hair brush, different coloured hair extensions, an adjustable Pascal ring and a crown for the Princess!
However, the hair is very long on this styling head, so needs to be very carefully combed to stop it becoming too tangled. If you are looking to spend a bit more money and have more accessories to play with, you may want to consider the Mattel Disney Princess Rapunzel Doll Styling Head. This is a very elegant styling head with sleek golden hair, a wear and share hairbrush, a wide selection of hair clips and hair slides and a glamourous Princess tiara.
Barbie Styling Heads
Probably the best known and best loved fashion doll in the world is Barbie. Barbie has been leading the fashion parades for decades, so it is only right and proper that Barbie has her own range of makeup and hairstyling heads. Barbie has played many different roles in her long career, so there are fashion Barbie styling heads, Barbie in her role as Disney Princess styling heads and even Barbie wedding day styling heads, so that you can makeup and style Barbie for her big day. As you can imagine is that there is lots of pink in the Barbie styling heads, and they come with combs, brushes, hair clips and hair accessories.
One of the common complaints about all of the styling heads is that they do not come with compartments to store all the small accessories, so maybe it would be wise to provide your child with a container to keep all of her styling head treasures safe and ensure that they do not get lost. As many of the hair clips and accessories are so small, these styling heads are not a suitable toy for children under three as they may pose a choking hazard. If you like singing toys, look for the Barbie Island Princess Rosella Karaoke styling head, where you can enjoy creating hairstyles, putting on makeup and listening to Princess Rosella sing into the microphone along with her island friends.
Other Styling Heads
If you want a styling head that your child can play with in the tub, why not have a look at the Fisher-Price Suds and Surprise Dora. This really cute Dora styling head can be securely fitted to the wall of the bath with suction, and Dora’s swimsuit changes colour in the warm water, pink streaks appear in her hair and an undersea design on her face.
If your little girl prefers animals to people, she will probably love the My Little Pony Styling Pony or the Mattel Galloping Glitz Tawny Styling head, where she can comb the pony’s mane, plait their manes and dress them up in glittery saddles and trendy hoof accessories! There are styling heads with every imaginable hair colour, from black, blonde, red, brown and even pink and you can also buy African-American and Hispanic styling heads.

I bought one of those doll head dolls for my little niece who is going to be 4 this July! The character the doll I got for her is named Elena, she has long brown hair & she looks like she could be latina or asian which is fine since my niece is half filipina. The only thing it didn’t come with is doll makeup, I will buy some for her when I give her the doll. I’m super excited to give the doll to her! I always wanted one when I was a little girl but never got one, but makes sense since I never mentioned getting one for a present! My niece likes playing with makeup so I know she’ll love it! My husband and I never had kiddos (I’m 50 years old now)so I get to spoil my sister in law’s daughter & my cousin’s kids!

Hi Nell, I agree with you about styling heads being better these days. The nearest I got as a kid was a Tressy doll that supposedly had hair that could grow - in reality it was a plastic hank of hair on a string that I soon pulled out, leaving a big hole in the poor doll's head! Thanks for reading about dolls styling heads 2besure. It would have been great to have had these toys when we were younger - I had a doll that you could have with either long or short hair, but the long hair pulled out of the doll's head and eventually pulled out althogether, leaving a big hole in the doll's head!
