Best Christmas Gifts for 9 and 10 year old girls

Best Christmas Gifts for 9 and 10 year old girls

Tween girls are not always easy to buy gifts for. Many 9 and 10 year old girls have outgrown Barbies and are more into decorating their room, playing on IPhones, sketching clothing designs, and exchanging beauty tips with girlfriends. If you need help picking out the perfect Christmas gift for 9 or 10 year old girl, you are at the right place. I have plenty of unique gift ideas for tweens who like crafts, jewelry, science, baking, slumber parties, sports, music, technology, board games, and more. Truth is that not every idea featured here is a good fit for every nine and ten year old. Some like gadgets and music but have no interest in crafts, others can't get enough of jewelry making, creating, and playing board games. That's why this article is broken down into sections - recommendations for girls with different interests.

Gift ideas for creative girls - Who like crafts

Craft projects inspire girls to think creatively and express their individuality through crafts. I highly recommend the "Project Runway Tapefitti Fashion Design Challenge." 9 and 10 year old girls will have so much fun making up their own fashions using the materials provided in the kit. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and a 9 or a 10 year old girl can work on fashion designs independently.

Best Gifts for 9 and 10 year old girls - Who like to Cook

Not sure if an "Easy Bake Oven" is a good gift for a nine to ten year old girl? Most likely, she is more interested in real kitchen gadgets and the real oven.

Gifts for girls who like science

For kids who like to mine crystals, conduct fun experiments, and are interested in science, consider my gift ideas below. If you do decide to choose a microscope or a telescope as a gift, I really recommend the higher quality ones. Some of the toy microscopes and telescopes for kids are a real junk and a waste of money.

Klutz Books for Tween Girls

I love Klutz books for several reasons. First of all, each Klutz book teaches a new skill - how to make charms out of clay, how to make friendship bracelets or your own greeting cards, how to make cool face paint designs, how to design fashions, etc. Second, it provides all the necessary materials, step by step instructions, and lots of illustrations. Each book is a unique, and helps girls develop creative thinking. Klutz books are very affordable and make great Christmas and Birthday gifts.

Best Gifts for girls who like board games

"Scrambled States", "5 Second Rule", "Charades", "Sketch it", "Spot it", "Forbidden Island", and "Ticket to Ride" are popular board and table games for kids ages 9 and 10. Tweens are usually into games that require a little strategy, a little guessing, plenty of mystery and quick reaction and, of course, loads of fun.

Great Tech Gift Idea for girls ages 9 and up

If your girl likes to sing, she will love the SingStand Home Karaoke System from Memorex. It works with iPod or any MP3 device with a headphone jack, has 2 four-watt speakers built into the base, and comes equipped with dual microphone inputs for duet performances. A+++ gift for a tween girl. And the latest edition of "Just Dance" is out with a great collection of new songs rated 10+.

Jewelry and Accessories for Tween girls

Looking for a gift for a tween fashionista or a girl who likes to accessorize? She will appreciate a pair of earrings, a necklace, or a stylish watch. Jewelry organizer is another gift worth considering.

Best books for tween girls

I highly recommend books in American Girl Library series, like the one featured here: "Hair Styling Tips for girls." The books in the series are age appropriate, easy to read, and answer a lot of questions 9 and 10 year old girls may have.

"Girls" Magazine is also a good gift for girls ages 9 and 10. It's a magazine created by girls for girls. Quizzes, embarrassing moments, contests, fashion, and much more - perfect magazine for tween girls. Great reviews from Moms too :) Perfect magazine for the age group and a fun gift that will last all year long.

IPods, iPads, and Kindle Fire are at the top of 9 & 10 year old wish lists this year. Tweens do like electronics that combine games/ apps, camera, and mp3 player all in one device. Not only can they play games, take pictures, and listen to music, but they can also chat with friends using text messaging apps and Skype.

If you are prefer to give Educational gifts, a subscription to Little Passport is an excellent gift choice. For 9 and 10 year olds, I recommend the USA Subscription (monthly and cancel any time, 3-months, 6-months, or 12-months). In the 1st month mailing, the child receives everything in the picture above: An introductory letter, USA Field Guide, USA Scratch Book, USA Wall Map, Disposable Camera & Photo Scavenger Hunt. And in the subsequent months, she will receive a package (1 per month) that will include an activity-packed travel journal, stickers, postcards, pop-out models and access to more information and games/activities online - each month mailing has educational information about 2 states.

@Kalafina: Little passport

Your niece sounds a lot like my daughters. Little passports might interest her. She will look forward to getting something in the mail and most importantly learn something about the country/state (which ever subscription you choose). I am excited to purchase one for my girls. Good Luck!

my son love new gadgets and daughter loves craft. looking for different gifts then usual . Great lens

katiecolette (author) on September 27, 2012:

@Kalafina: The Boogie Board Paperless LCD Writing Tablet featured here would make a great gift for her, if she doesn't have one yet. In a way it is something technological, yet it does require the use of imagination. You might just see her doodle more frequently :) I will be adding new items to this lens in a few weeks, so do check back! Thank you!

Badbreathguy on September 26, 2012:

Books, eBooks and accessories for the Kindle and Blackberry are high on my shopping list this year.

anonymous on September 23, 2012:

@Kalafina: How about a digital photo frame for her room - nice to sit with you or parents and decide what photos she want to put on it. Followed up by a small digital camera for Christmas ( or vice versa)

anonymous on September 15, 2012:

@anonymous: u cannot do it!!!!!

anonymous on September 14, 2012:

@Kalafina: I would probably just get her the iPod !

Kalafina on September 12, 2012:

The only problem is...what do you get the girl who has everything? For Christmas last year, I bought my godchild the entire series of her favorite books (all 19 of them). She loved it...except now she got a kindle. I've bought her cute coats because she wears a uniform to school. And unlike her godmother, she really doesn't require at least 7. Her mother is an art teacher so she doesn't need art supplies. She's also not a kid who stays put long enough for most of your toy suggestions. I give about 10 minutes before the excitement ends.

I know she wants an ipod touch but that is because "everyone else has one." I refuse to get her something technological because 1)kids should use their imagination and not sit in front of their video games 2) I would use that on my parents, get the item and use it a few times before forgetting about it.

Sorry for the long long explanation :) I'm starting my search early so let me know if you come across anything new! Thank you.

I recently learned that the most exciting gift of all is Amazon gift card. While attending a birthday party for friend's 10 year old daughter I got to observe it first hand how she jumped up and down for half an hour while squeezing the gift card in her hands. So funny!
